Chapter Index

“Go ahead, what do you want to say?”

In the office, Xu Shaochen asked directly.

Deng Tianwen frowned: “Chairman Xu, shouldn’t you at least offer me some tea?”

“No need, no point wasting it. Besides, I don’t really like tea.” Xu Shaochen waved his hand dismissively.

    Deng Tianwen: “……..”

He took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his murderous intent, and got to the point.

“I reported the deaths of Deng Tianquan and Deng Tianyang. I told them your people did it.”

    Xu Shaochen nodded: “And then?”

He already knew Deng Tianwen would blame him for their deaths.

After all, Deng Tianwen wanted to become the head of the Deng Family, so he couldn’t afford to carry the crime of killing his kin.

There are things you can do, but you can’t let others know. Everyone understands this in silence.

So Xu Shaochen had to take the fall for Deng Tianwen.

Now, Xu Shaochen was only concerned about what he could gain from this.

As for what Deng Tianwen had promised before, that the Xu family’s business in the Northwest would be unobstructed,

he simply considered it an empty promise. Xu Shaochen only believed in tangible benefits.

“The Deng Family’s members are each in charge of their own assets until the position of family head is settled. For example, Deng Tianquan managed the Liaocheng branch while Deng Tianyang handled several of the Deng Family’s jade mines.”

“Now that they’re dead, those assets are up for grabs. Once I take control, I can secretly sign a deal giving all those profits to you.”

“Of course, I know you’re not interested in those. This is just a small gesture of apology for my earlier rashness.”

“A proper token of thanks will come after I become family head.”

Deng Tianwen spoke calmly. Though these businesses were profitable, they were insignificant compared to the entire Deng Family.

Moreover, he was offering them to Xu Shaochen as reparation for dragging him into the killing of Deng Tianquan, forcing Xu into conflict with the Deng Family.

Xu Shaochen asked: “How do you plan to take over Deng Tianquan and Deng Tianyang’s assets?”

“By avenging them, of course.” Deng Tianwen laughed.

    Xu Shaochen smiled as well.

Deng Tianwen continued: “The Deng Family’s members are decent at business, but when it comes to blood and guts, they’re all cowards, afraid to die.”

“Especially now that Deng Tianquan and Deng Tianyang have both died in Jiangzhou. Asking them to come after you for revenge would be like asking them to walk to their deaths. None of them will dare to come.”

“So, when I offer to handle this matter, they’ll be more than happy to throw the responsibility onto me.”

After all, in the eyes of the Deng Family, Deng Tianwen has always been a mediocre figure who keeps a low profile. Since he’s willing to risk his life by going to Jiangzhou, the others are more than eager to watch the spectacle.

As for letting Deng Tianwen take over Deng Tianquan and Deng Tianyang’s businesses, it posed no threat to them.

Besides, the other Deng Family members probably thought it wouldn’t be hard to make Deng Tianwen cough it all up eventually after some time.

“How will you be able to claim the title of family head? You’ll need to show your business skills.” Xu Shaochen asked.

Deng Tianwen shook his head: “Too slow. It’s much quicker to eliminate all my competitors.”

“The Deng Family has no shortage of legitimate heirs. If they all die, the Deng Family will be in chaos.” Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow, feeling that Deng Tianwen was becoming a bit extreme.

Deng Tianwen rolled his eyes: “Chairman Xu, I know you’re a smart man, but don’t treat me like I’m an idiot.”

“Who said eliminating them means killing them? I’ve got ways to make them willingly give up their claim to the inheritance. That’s why I’m here in Jiangzhou!”

“Jiangzhou is far from the central family authority, and with a local figure like you supporting me, as long as I can lure them here one by one, I have plenty of ways to make them voluntarily withdraw from the competition.”

Xu Shaochen was at a loss for words. He secretly thanked his grandfather for naming only one successor.

Otherwise, he’d probably be mired in the same messy power struggles.

“You must have some supporters within the Deng Family, don’t you? With your unimpressive track record over the years, even if all the legitimate heirs step down, the ambitious branch family members would certainly make things difficult for you.”

Xu Shaochen stared at Deng Tianwen. Without backing, everything Deng Tianwen’s doing would just be playing the fool for someone else to benefit.

Deng Tianwen smiled but didn’t elaborate. He merely mentioned casually: “By a stroke of luck, a few elders in the family have taken an interest in me. At key moments, they’ll back me up.”

    “Heh.”

Xu Shaochen gave a dry laugh. He suspected that these elders probably had some embarrassing secrets which this “old fox” had in his hands.

“Alright, we’re done. Now get lost.”

Xu Shaochen waved his hand at Deng Tianwen like chasing off a fly.

“Chairman Xu! You’d better explain to Yan that I am not your second uncle!”

Before leaving, Deng Tianwen spat out each word through gritted teeth, glaring at Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow: “No way. If I explain that, wouldn’t that make me out to be a liar?”

“You already ARE a liar!” Deng Tianwen retorted, utterly exasperated.

Xu Shaochen shrugged: “Only you seem to think so. That’s your problem.”

Deng Tianwen wanted to curse, but remembering how Xu Shaochen had brutally beaten him in the office that day, he held back.

This wasn’t cowardice, he told himself. It was strategic restraint.

“Oh, and on your way out, tell the secretary to make me some tea.”

As Deng Tianwen stepped out of the office, Xu Shaochen called after him in a louder voice.

Deng Tianwen was speechless. You won’t drink tea with me here, but the moment I leave, you demand tea? So much for ‘not liking tea.’

“Chairman Xu, that man leaving just now looked pretty upset.”

A moment later, the secretary entered the office with a Teacup.

Ever since she had verbally sparred with Xu Shaochen, she was no longer timid in front of him.

“Come here. I’ll see if your skills have improved.”

Xu Shaochen beckoned the secretary with a smile. Playing with the secretary was just part of the boss’s daily routine.

“Chairman Xu, I’ve been practicing at home with a cucumber, but I accidentally bit it in half and ate it.”

Pouting, the secretary adorably showed her frustration, trying to prove she’d been diligently practicing.

Hearing this, Xu Shaochen instinctively crossed his legs and clamped them tightly. The mere thought made him wince.

“Forget it. Just bring me the documents. I need to handle some work.”

    “Oh.”

The secretary was a little disappointed. She had wanted to show off her progress.

    “Ring, ring, ring…”

Suddenly, Xu Shaochen’s Phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he frowned.
