Chapter Index

Li Qi’s family’s old house was located in the suburban area.

Recently, that piece of land was bought by a company from out of town. They said they were planning to develop an amusement park.

So the company wanted to demolish the houses in that area.

Li Qi’s family was relatively well-off, with a house in the city, so they didn’t really need the demolition compensation.

The old house had always been where Li Qi’s grandfather lived.

For an elderly man in his seventies or eighties, he would rather stay in the dilapidated old house for the rest of his life than move into the new home in the city.

    Because it held sentimental value.

So, Li Qi’s grandfather refused to agree to the demolition. He clashed with the demolition crew, and during the altercation, he was pushed to the ground. He is still in the hospital, unconscious.

Li Qi’s parents went to reason with the out-of-town company, but the company shirked responsibility by blaming the demolition crew. They even had security guards throw them out.

Left with no choice, Li Qi’s family went to the demolition team for an explanation.

But the demolition workers were like a bunch of local thugs. They insisted the old man fell on his own and denied any responsibility.

They even accused Li Qi’s family of being greedy, claiming they felt the compensation was too little and were trying to extort them.

Li Qi’s parents were so angry their faces turned blue, and they argued with the demolition team on the spot.

As a result, both of them were beaten and ended up in the hospital.

After Li Qi called the Police, the demolition team had a few small-time thugs take the blame.

That out-of-town company even threatened Li Qi, saying that if he dared to damage their reputation, they’d definitely pursue him to the end.

Li Qi, being quite stubborn, was even more determined to sue the out-of-town company and the demolition team after hearing those threats.

That’s why he came to the Yunding Law Firm today to hire a lawyer.

“Is a case like this easy to win?” Xu Shaochen asked Zhang Wei after hearing everything.

Zhang Wei looked towards Attorney Chen next to Li Qi. He hadn’t really gotten into the details of this case, so he couldn’t give an answer.

Attorney Chen shook his head and said, “It’s not an easy case. There’s no solid evidence to prove that the elderly man’s fall had anything to do with the demolition team or that company.”

“However, given that the man is still lying in a hospital bed, the company might offer some compensation for medical expenses, but it won’t be much.”

“Moreover, lawsuits can be lengthy. If they drag it out, it will only make it harder for Li Qi to prove anything.”

Hearing this, Li Qi’s expression dimmed. He was not surprised. He knew this was the reality, but he simply couldn’t accept it.

Xu Shaochen let out a cold laugh, “No evidence, huh? The law can’t touch them, but I can. After all, I don’t need evidence.”

No matter what, Li Qi was his roommate. He had to help.

Besides, that company and the demolition crew had clearly gone too far.

The elderly man was in the hospital, unconscious, and they still didn’t want to pay any compensation. Were they really that short of money?

Not to mention, they even beat up Li Qi’s parents. It was absolutely outrageous.

    “Shaochen…” Li Qi’s face changed.

Xu Shaochen cut him off, “We’re roommates. If I didn’t know about this, that would be one thing. If I didn’t have the ability, that would be another. But now that I know and have the ability, do you really think I can just stand by and do nothing?”

Li Qi hesitated, then finally choked on his words, saying, “Thank you.”

These past few days had been tough for him. Suing was his last hope, but he knew how slim that hope was.

Without Xu Shaochen, he wouldn’t know how to seek justice for his grandfather and parents.

    “Ding, ding, ding…”

    Suddenly, his Phone rang.

Li Qi answered the call, “Hello, Grandpa Liu, what! Okay, I’ll head right back!”

He barely said two sentences before his face changed drastically.

    “What’s wrong?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Li Qi’s eyes filled with fury as he gritted his teeth and said, “Those demolition bastards took advantage of the fact that no one was home and started demolishing our house! The neighbors are trying to stop them! I have to go back right now!”

“Let’s go then. My Car’s outside. I’m curious to see what kind of demolition company dares to be this bold.”

Xu Shaochen’s expression turned cold as he spoke.

Even Zhao Qing, who got his start in demolition, had used underhanded tactics before, but he had never gone this far.

“I’m coming too,” Zhang Wei said.

    ………………

    About twenty minutes later.

The Car arrived at Li Qi’s old house.

From a distance, Xu Shaochen could see a large crowd had gathered in front, and there was even an excavator parked there.

After parking the Car, Xu Shaochen and the others quickly walked over.

“Damn it! You old fool! I’m warning you, mind your own business! Get the hell out of the way right now!”

A scrawny middle-aged man pointed at a group of elderly people in front of him, cursing.

“Pah! Look at the kind of things you’re doing. I was cooperating with your demolition at first, but now, you won’t even dream of tearing down my house!”

“Yeah! It was you who pushed Old Li down! And you beat up his son and daughter-in-law too! And you still think we’ll cooperate with you? Keep dreaming!”

“Get lost! Or else you’re going to have to kill all of us old folks before you can touch a single brick of this house!”

The other elderly people, their throats hoarse with anger, rained curses on the scrawny middle-aged man.

Since all the younger folk had moved to the city, the elderly residents leaned on each other, and many had known each other for decades. They were of course very close.

Li Qi’s grandfather was still lying unconscious in the hospital, and these old friends were extremely angry.

Some of them had originally been willing to cooperate with the demolition, but now they had all banded together to resist.

“Fine, fine! Damn it! You group of old fools! Be careful you don’t get hit by a Car when crossing the street one day!”

The scrawny middle-aged man’s face turned an ugly shade of gray, and his eyes filled with a vicious glint.

This job had been commissioned by a big company. If they did it well, they would have a strong backer for future business, so they had to find a way to deal with these stubborn old folks. Otherwise, their task would fail.

“You also better watch out, talking like that. One day, you might end up getting beaten to death on the street.”

At that moment, a calm voice broke the tension.

The scrawny middle-aged man, already on edge, furiously shouted, “Who? Who the hell dares talk like that? Show yourself if you’ve got the guts!”

The lackeys behind him parted to reveal Li Qi, Xu Shaochen, and Zhang Wei, clearly in view.

Following behind Xu Shaochen were Long Yi and Long Er.

He had only brought two bodyguards when they went to Zhang Wei’s law firm earlier.

When the scrawny middle-aged man saw Li Qi, a mocking smile appeared on his face, and he shouted proudly:

“So it’s you, brat. What? Did you go find reinforcements? I’ll tell you what, if you know what’s good for you, get those old folks away from here and cooperate with us to demolish the house, or else…”

    “Slap!”

Before he could finish, Xu Shaochen raised his hand and slapped him across the face. Calmly, he said:

    “Or else, what?”
