Chapter Index

    Great Hall.

“Miss, I still don’t know your name, right? It wouldn’t be proper for me to keep calling you that. Oh, look, there’s something in your hand.”

Liao Zhanfei said as he reached out to grab Du Ruyan’s hand.

    “Splash!”

Du Ruyan directly splashed alcohol in his face and coldly said: “Let me warn you. Get as far away from me as possible. Stop pestering me!”

Liao Zhanfei’s face instantly darkened, as black as the bottom of a pot. He wiped the alcohol off his face and cursed at Du Ruyan: “You b*tch! Don’t act so self-righteous. The fact that I fancy you is a blessing for you. How dare you act all high and mighty!”

“How about you try saying that in front of Xu Shaochen!?” Du Ruyan said expressionlessly, completely unmasking her disdain.

Was Liao Zhanfei’s intention not already clear to her? He wanted to make a fool out of Xu Shaochen! What did he think Du Ruyan was?

Liao Zhanfei fumed, “Xu Shaochen? He’s nothing!”

“So I’m nothing? Then what do you count as?”

Just as Liao Zhanfei finished speaking, a calm, emotionless voice echoed in his ears.

Liao Zhanfei instinctively turned around and saw Xu Shaochen walking over with an expressionless face.

Behind Xu Shaochen stood his father and a few others whom Liao Zhanfei didn’t recognize.

The other people in the hall fell silent, turning their amused gazes toward Liao Zhanfei.

Sure enough, it’s like they say: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

“Shaochen, this guy has been hounding me like a fly. He’s unbelievably annoying!”

Du Ruyan hurried to Xu Shaochen’s side, her face full of disgust as she spoke.

Seeing that his father was also present, Liao Zhanfei felt emboldened. Looking at Xu Shaochen, he casually said:

“Young Master Xu, isn’t it only natural for a gentleman to pursue a beautiful woman? Do I not have the right to seek beauty? We’re both competing fairly. Are you afraid you can’t beat me?”

“You insolent fool! Shut your mouth!”

Liao Zhengli’s face twisted in fury. He stormed over and slapped Liao Zhanfei hard across the face.

    “Smack!”

A crisp sound echoed throughout the hall, and everyone could clearly hear the slap.

Liao Zhanfei’s left cheek immediately swelled up, visibly reddening.

Feeling the burning pain on his face, Liao Zhanfei was still in disbelief as he said: “Dad… you hit me? You slapped me for some nobody? Don’t forget that my older cousin is…”

    “Wham!”

Before Liao Zhanfei could finish, Liao Zhengli’s expression changed drastically, and he kicked Liao Zhanfei to the ground.

“Shut up! Apologize to Chairman Xu immediately, and then go home! You’re not leaving the house for half a month!”

Regarding the incident with Liao Zanrong, both he and Xu Shaochen had silently chosen to forget about it, as if it never happened.

But now, Liao Zhanfei chose to bring it up. It was like tearing down the thin veil that had kept things peaceful between him and Xu Shaochen. How could he not be furious?

“You want me to apologize? Apologize to this nobody? Never! Why should I apologize to him?”

Liao Zhanfei was emotional, burning with rage. Even his father’s actions made him furious.

He had never expected his father to not stand by him. Instead, he had been slapped in front of everyone. How could he possibly keep his dignity? “You… you’re going to drive me mad!”

Liao Zhengli’s face turned pale with anger, his hand trembling as he pointed at his son. He knew his son was reckless, but he hadn’t thought he could be this thoughtless.

No sense, yet his ambitions reached the skies.

“Liao Shuji, let it go. No need to make a big fuss over this.”

Xu Shaochen said calmly. He wasn’t concerned about Liao Zhanfei pestering Du Ruyan since he knew there was no way she would ever be interested in Liao Zhanfei.

A woman protected by a lion wouldn’t settle for a stray dog.

    “Let it go?”

Liao Zhanfei laughed coldly: “You may want to let it go, but I won’t. We’ve got plenty of time ahead. Let’s see who comes out on top.”

Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t afraid of Liao Zhanfei, but dealing with him promised nothing but trouble.

Liao Zhanfei probably wouldn’t be able to do much, but who knew when he might pop up again to cause annoyance.

“You ungrateful brat! Get out! Leave now!”

Liao Zhengli yelled at his son in fury.

“Dad, I’m still your son! Humph!”

Liao Zhanfei snorted before turning and walking out of the hotel.

    “Huff… Huff…”

Liao Shuji was absolutely fuming. He looked at Xu Shaochen apologetically and sighed: “Chairman Xu, I’m sorry. I’ve neglected my son’s upbringing over the years, and his mother has spoiled him too much. I’m ashamed to let you witness all this.”

“He’s still young. He’ll understand eventually.” Xu Shaochen smiled, casually brushing it off.

Liao Zhengli gave a bitter smile.

Still young? In his twenties and still young? Look at all these young men his age; not one of them behaves as recklessly as his son.

Du Ruyan leaned in and whispered something into Xu Shaochen’s ear. His eyes narrowed instantly.

    “You, come here.”

Xu Shaochen gestured towards the young man with a sCar on his face.

    “Mr… Mr. Xu.”

The scarred young man’s face paled slightly as he cautiously approached Xu Shaochen, filled with anxiety.

    He was nervous.

If he hadn’t pushed Liao Zhanfei to go after Xu Shaochen, none of this would have happened.

    “Smack!” “Whack!” “Slap!”

Without a word, Xu Shaochen raised his hand, delivering three hard slaps to the young man’s face.

Each slap was heavier than the last, and by the end, blood was trickling from the young man’s mouth.

“Do you think you didn’t deserve those?”

Xu Shaochen asked in a calm voice.

The young man bit his lip and shook his head: “No… I deserved them. It was my fault.”

“I hate being used as a tool. If you want to use me, you better make sure you’re qualified. Are you?”

Xu Shaochen’s face remained expressionless. It was a small matter, but being manipulated left him disgusted.

The young man shook his head again: “No… I’m not qualified.”

“This is the first time. I hope it’s the last. Get out!”

    Xu Shaochen said coldly.

“Thank you, Mr. Xu, for sparing me.”

The scarred young man bowed to Xu Shaochen in gratitude before turning and leaving.

Aside from the scarred man’s friends and Du Ruyan, everyone else was still somewhat bewildered, unclear on why Xu Shaochen had done what he had.

“Alright, everyone. Let’s continue. Eat, drink, play, have fun. I’m grateful you’re all here to honor me. Let me propose a toast!”

Liao Zhengli tried to liven up the mood in the hall.

“That man probably won’t let this go so easily,” Du Ruyan said to Xu Shaochen.

    Xu Shaochen chuckled: “He will.”

After saying that, Xu Shaochen sent a message to Liu Jun.

“Find a guy named Liao Zhanfei. He’s Liao Zhengli’s son; should be easy to spot. When you find him, scare him a bit, so he stops bothering me.”
