Chapter 672: I Don’t Want to Hear ‘Impossible’
by xennovelThe middle-aged man’s face fluctuated between emotions.
It was obvious he was deeply conflicted.
He believed in the Eldest Young Master’s ability to take care of his family.
But he didn’t dare gamble his family’s lives on it.
Because if he lost the gamble, the cost would be the lives of his entire family.
He wasn’t afraid to die. Coming to Jiangzhou, he never expected to return alive.
But he feared implicating his family, dragging them into the depths of hell because of his actions.
Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to betray the Eldest Young Master, who had always been so kind to him.
“Have you made up your mind? This cigarette is only one-third left.”
Xu Shaochen smiled faintly as he looked at him.
“Please, I beg you, stop forcing me! Kill me! Just kill me already!”
The middle-aged man felt like he was losing his mind, his heart filled with turmoil. He struggled as he stared at Xu Shaochen, his eyes wide with desperation.
“Don’t worry. If I don’t get the answer I want, you’ll die, and your family will accompany you on your way. So, there’s no need to rush.”
“You say I’m forcing you, but why are you pushing me? Forcing me to do something I don’t want to do? I don’t want to use your family as leverage, but I have to admit it’s the most effective way.”
Xu Shaochen looked at the middle-aged man and added more psychological pressure on him with each word.
“Think about your parents. Then think about your wife and children. While you’re alive, the one you serve will certainly take care of them.”
“But what if you’re dead? Do you think he will spend time caring for people who no longer hold any value to him?”
“I don’t know how much you’ve been paid for this job in Jiangzhou, but if you just tell me who’s orchestrating this behind the scenes, I’ll double the amount and give it to your family.”
Appealing to his emotions and explaining things logically. Unless this man truly didn’t care about his family, it was only a matter of time before he spoke up.
Sure enough, the man who’d been so agitated moments ago slowly began to calm down after hearing those words.
The room once again fell into a long silence.
“I gave you the opportunity, but you didn’t cherish it. Remember, you were the one who killed your family.”
Xu Shaochen flicked his cigarette butt, stood up, and walked towards the door without looking back.
“Wait!”
Just as he opened the door, the once-silent middle-aged man spoke up.
Xu Shaochen’s mouth curved into a slight smile: “Speak.”
“It’s Ma Liang, the eldest son of the Ma Family.”
“He knows you’ve been supporting the Second Young Master. Now that the Second Young Master’s popularity is growing, he wanted me to kill you and frame the Third Young Master.”
After saying this, the middle-aged man began to sob, having betrayed the benefactor who had treated him so well.
“You saved your family. Don’t worry, I’m a man of my word. I’ll ensure the money reaches your family’s account.”
Xu Shaochen casually left these words behind and briskly walked out of the room.
The moment he stepped out, his expression instantly darkened.
“Ma Liang! What a bold Ma Liang!” Xu Shaochen pulled out his Phone and dialed Ma Di’s number.
“Hello, Mr. Xu, about Ma Cheng…”
“Ma Cheng must die!” Xu Shaochen cut him off without hesitation.
“…………” There was silence on the other end of the Phone.
Xu Shaochen took a deep breath and recounted the events of last night.
“Then he deserves to die,” Ma Di said after hearing the story.
“Help me kill your eldest brother,” Xu Shaochen said.
“Mr. Xu, that’s impossible…”
Before he could finish, Xu Shaochen cut him off again:
“I don’t want to hear ‘impossible.’ I only want to hear that he’s dead!”
“Do you even realize? Last night, I was nearly killed! His men had a gun against my head! My woman was pale with fear!”
“I’m telling you, in three days, if he isn’t dead, our cooperation will be over. I don’t care about your Ma Family’s resources. Whatever you swallowed, I can make you spit it out!”
With that, Xu Shaochen hung up the Phone without hesitation, his face expressionless, much like a tiger, ready to pounce and devour at any moment.
………………
Macau.
“Mr. Xu, Mr. X…”
“Beep— Beep—”
Hearing the busy tone on the other end of the Phone, Ma Di was both irritated and furious.
“Damn it!”
He cursed and threw the Phone in his hand with all his strength.
“Bang!”
The Phone shattered into pieces as it hit the floor.
Xu Shaochen’s tone had made him furious, but he was helpless.
Without Xu Shaochen’s support, he wouldn’t stand a chance of inheriting the entire Ma Family.
But the problem was, if he killed his eldest brother, even if no evidence was found, he would still be the prime suspect.
Right now, he had a strong chance of winning. His father was paying him more and more attention. As long as he kept steady, he was poised to take over the Ma Family.
But if he killed his eldest brother…
What would his father think? A man on the verge of victory killing his competition—would that make his father support Ma Cheng’s inheritance?
Would his other siblings agree?
Probably not, because all of them would fear facing the same fate as Ma Liang.
But now, Xu Shaochen was pressuring him. If he didn’t do what Xu Shaochen wanted, Xu Shaochen would abandon his support.
Then everything Ma Di had built over this time would only be an illusion, a bubble waiting to be burst.
After a moment, his face twisted with anger and determination: “Eldest brother, don’t blame me. Blame yourself for having thoughts you shouldn’t have had! Who told you to be so stupid as to try and kill Xu Shaochen!”
He made up his mind. If he was going to act, he would do it boldly, taking care of all the unrest in one fell swoop.
After tonight, the Ma Family that ruled Macau would still be ‘Ma,’ but it would be the ‘Ma’ of Ma Di. The entire Ma Family would only ever hear his voice!
With that thought, he took a deep breath to calm his earlier agitation. His face once again donned a gentle and refined smile as he walked to the living room to greet his father.
After all, this might be the last time he would ever pay respects to his father.
After tonight, his father might no longer acknowledge him as a son.
………………
Jiangzhou.
After finishing the call, Xu Shaochen set the matter aside.
After all, he had already told Ma Di. Whether it was difficult or not, that was Ma Di’s problem, not his.
Xu Shaochen only needed to see the result he wanted.
If Ma Di couldn’t handle even this, why should Xu Shaochen keep supporting him?
It would be better to redirect those resources to training a new dog. Why waste them on Ma Di?
Yes, that’s right. In Xu Shaochen’s eyes, Ma Di was just a dog.
Or, more precisely, a somewhat higher-ranked dog—so high, in fact, that sometimes Xu Shaochen acted as if he were his friend.
But that was still all. It didn’t change the fact that Xu Shaochen pouring resources into supporting him was no different from raising a dog.
As the saying goes, a dog is man’s best friend.
