Chapter 673: Did You Get My Status Mixed Up?
by xennovelXu Shaochen didn’t go to work today.
After leaving the Police station, he went straight home.
Because Du Ruyan was frightened last night, Xu Shaochen planned to stay home with her today.
After all, Du Ruyan is only 18 years old, and it was her first time experiencing such a scene. It’s easy for her to be traumatized.
Moreover, Du Ruyan had a nightmare last night and even woke Xu Shaochen up in the middle of the night.
There was even an incident in the morning when Mei Liangxin, Zhao Qing, and Zhang Wei knocked on his door.
Xu Shaochen thought he was going to die or something, but this feeling of concern from others wasn’t bad at all.
Of course, the concern here was sincere. Forget about those fake sentiments.
“How are you feeling, Ruyan? Do you feel better?”
When Xu Shaochen returned home, Liu Rushuang and Liu Ruxu were chatting with Du Ruyan.
Du Ruyan nodded, “Mm, much better, just a bit stifled inside.”
“It’s all my fault. Don’t worry, nothing like last night will ever happen again.”
Xu Shaochen gently hugged her, running his fingers through her slightly messy hair and kissed her on the cheek.
He felt like he had committed a major crime.
He swore that he would never let what happened last night happen again.
The heavens had sent such a beautiful treasure of a girl to him, and yet, he let her experience such a fright.
“Boss, Deng Tianwen is here. He’s outside at the gate right now.”
A few minutes later, Long Yi walked into the living room to report to Xu Shaochen.
“What is he here for? Let him in.”
Xu Shaochen said.
“Yes, Boss.”
A moment later, Long Yi brought Deng Tianwen into the living room.
Deng Tianwen was carrying several bags in his hands.
“Wow, Chairman Xu! I’m so relieved to see you’re okay!”
“I only found out about what happened last night this morning. That was really dangerous. So, here I am, coming to check on you right away. Touched?”
Deng Tianwen said in an exaggerated manner, but Xu Shaochen felt like he was somewhat disappointed that he wasn’t beaten to death.
“What’s in your hands? You’re here, no need to bring gifts.”
Xu Shaochen said, eyeing Deng Tianwen.
“Ahem, ahem…” Deng Tianwen coughed awkwardly. “Uh, actually, these aren’t for you. They’re for someone else.”
“Get out! You can roll your way out of here right now!”
Xu Shaochen’s face darkened, and he spoke angrily.
“I’m your second granduncle, for crying out loud. That little brat doesn’t have an ounce of filial piety in him.”
“Chairman Xu, these may not be for you, but they’re gifts for your lovely women.”
Deng Tianwen said with a grin, placing the bags on the table. “I wasn’t sure what to get, so they’re just some small things, like cosmetics. I hope the ladies won’t mind.”
“Did you mess up the titles here? You call me granduncle. How could you call my women ‘ladies’?”
Xu Shaochen teasingly said to Deng Tianwen.
“Get lost!”
Hearing Xu Shaochen bring this up again, Deng Tianwen’s face turned sour, like he’d swallowed a fly.
“Fine. Seeing how filial you are today, I’ll treat you to a cup of high-quality Da Hong Pao.”
“Shuang, make him some tea.”
“No!” Deng Tianwen said. “There’s no need to trouble you. I just came to check on you. I have to head to the hospital now anyway.”
“What are you going to the hospital for?” Xu Shaochen was puzzled, looking Deng Tianwen over, not seeing any signs of illness.
Deng Tianwen noticed Xu Shaochen’s expression and quickly clarified, “It’s not me. It’s my future mother-in-law. Yan mentioned last night that she seemed to have fallen ill and was hospitalized.”
“Now that I know about it, how can I not go? After all, I’m the future son-in-law!”
Seeing Deng Tianwen’s shamelessness, Xu Shaochen couldn’t resist rolling his eyes. “You’re shameless, calling her your mother-in-law when she clearly doesn’t like you.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’ve already decided she’s the one. Anyway, I have to go now, bye.”
With those parting words, Deng Tianwen hurriedly left the living room.
“He’s quite an entertaining character.”
Liu Rushuang said with a smile.
“Entertaining just because he brought you gifts?” Xu Shaochen asked.
Liu Rushuang shook her head. “He prepared nine different gifts. Even though they’re not expensive, they’re equally thoughtful.”
Xu Shaochen understood: this meant Deng Tianwen had done his homework in advance.
………
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
City’s Third Hospital.
After inquiring about Hou Xiaoyan’s mother’s room, Deng Tianwen hurriedly made his way there, carrying some fruits.
But as soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he saw Hou Xiaoyan arguing heatedly with a doctor.
Standing by the doctor was a well-dressed middle-aged couple.
Deng Tianwen’s expression darkened as he quickly walked over. The closer he got, the clearer their argument became.
“Doctor Liu! My mother came to the hospital last night. Why do we need to give up the bed for them?”
Hou Xiaoyan asked, pointing at the middle-aged couple, clearly feeling wronged.
“Miss Hou, yes, you did come last night, but you never paid the full fees. How is that my fault?”
Doctor Liu replied with an uninterested tone, looking quite impatient.
“But… but I clearly told you that I would come back with the money! You’re being too unreasonable!”
Hou Xiaoyan protested.
Doctor Liu sneered, “Did you bring the money then? Let me guess, you still haven’t paid the full hospitalization costs, have you? We’re a hospital, not a charity!”
“I bet you took bribes from them!” Hou Xiaoyan shouted angrily.
Doctor Liu’s face changed. “Miss Hou, you need proof before you accuse someone of that. You can’t just slander me out of nowhere.”
“Exactly. You can’t afford the fees, but still hogging the bed? Seriously? You should take her home and let her die. It’ll save your family money!”
The middle-aged woman standing beside Doctor Liu sneered at Hou Xiaoyan.
“How much is the hospital fee? I’ll pay it right now! And you! Give me your name. I’m filing a complaint against you!”
Deng Tianwen marched forward, his face darkening as he glared at Doctor Liu.
“What are you doing here?”
Hou Xiaoyan asked, surprised to see him but feeling a bit relieved inside.
“Leave it to me.” Deng Tianwen said, then turned to Doctor Liu with a cold expression. “I asked you a question. What’s your name? I’m filing a complaint against you!”
“Filing a complaint? Fine, go ahead! Damn it, the hospital director is my uncle. Just try filing a complaint against me!”
Doctor Liu sneered, looking disdainfully at Deng Tianwen, even spitting on the ground. “I’ll tell you this: even if you pay the hospital fee now, it’s too late. These two already paid in advance.”
