Chapter Index

“Oh? So the advance payment you mentioned, is that your red envelope?”

Deng Tianwen gave Doctor Liu a mocking smile.

“This is the hospital, and what I say goes. If I tell you who gets this bed, then that’s who gets it!”

Doctor Liu, looking defiant, didn’t bother to explain.

“Doctor Liu, hurry and get these poor bastards off the bed, will you? My dad’s still waiting in the Car!”

A middle-aged man in a suit, frowning slightly, spoke impatiently.

“Hah, calling people ‘poor bastards’ constantly. You think you’re so awesome—why don’t you get your dear father into the VIP ward if you’re that capable?”

Deng Tianwen sneered, his gaze filled with disdain for the middle-aged man.

“Kid, that’s because the VIP ward is full. Do you think Mr. Xie would come here to compete with you poor folks for a bed otherwise?”

Doctor Liu looked at Deng Tianwen with an arrogant expression, like a dog defending its master.

“Oh… I see,” Deng Tianwen said, pretending to come to a realization, his sarcasm thickening. “So, the VIP ward’s full, huh? You figured you couldn’t offend the patients in there, so you’re here to bully us, the regular folks, right?”

“And what if I am? Kid, let me teach you the way things work in this world. I’ve got money and connections, so I’m better than you. Got it?”

The middle-aged man in the suit clearly didn’t want to drag the matter out further, so he laid it on thick.

“Yeah, look at yourself, you don’t even have a penny to your name, and you have the nerve to compete with us? You’re pathetic! Spit!”

The middle-aged woman, chin up in arrogance, spat disdainfully after insulting him.

“If we were back in the Northwest, I’d make sure none of you even knew what hit you.”

Deng Tianwen laughed angrily, glaring coldly at Doctor Liu and the others.

Doctor Liu sneered back, full of scorn. “Oh, nowadays bragging doesn’t come with a tax, huh? Anyone can spout a few lines now. Make sure we don’t know how we died? Ooh, so scary!”

“Hurry up and get that old guy out of the ward already; Mr. Xie’s father is still waiting. Can you afford the consequences?”

“You may be powerful, but if I can’t deal with you, there’s someone who can!”

With that, Deng Tianwen pulled out his Phone and called Xu Shaochen.

“Calling for backup, huh? Let’s see if you can summon the King of Heaven here. Damn, who are you trying to scare?”

Doctor Liu cursed disdainfully, then told Hou Xiaoyan, “Take your mother out of here now; the bed belongs to someone else.”

“You…!” Hou Xiaoyan’s face flushed with anger.

Deng Tianwen stopped her. “It’s okay, just take mom out first. Soon I’ll make him personally beg us to come back in.”

“Heh, sure, why not? Coincidentally, my knees have been a little itchy lately. Been wondering what it feels like to walk on them.”

Doctor Liu sneered, full of sarcasm.

Hou Xiaoyan entered the room. Moments later, she and her father walked her mother out.

Her parents were honest, rural folk, their faces deeply lined with age. Their hair had long since turned gray, and their hands were rough with calluses.

They had overheard the conversation from inside, but there was nothing they could do.

    “Kid, just you wait.”

Deng Tianwen gritted his teeth as he walked outside. At the same time, he spoke into his Phone, “Chairman Xu, could I trouble you with something… can you help me handle this?”

“Wait for me. I’ll come over in person.”

Deng Tianwen had just visited him and even bought a gift for his woman.

Although Deng Tianwen’s problem could be solved with a Phone call, Xu Shaochen felt it was better to handle it personally.

“Heh, Mr. Xie, just watch. I bet in a little while that poor bastard will have to slink away, tail between his legs. His little Phone call is just a pathetic attempt to save face.”

Doctor Liu snorted contemptuously as he watched Deng Tianwen’s retreating back.

    “Hah.”

Mr. Xie laughed lightly, no effort made to hide the disdain in his eyes.

“Let’s go. Time to pick up Dad.”

Mr. Xie said to his wife.

So, two minutes later, Mr. Xie and his wife bumped into Deng Tianwen again at the hospital entrance.

“Heh, I thought you’d be something special. Turns out you don’t even have a Car. You almost scared me there for a second.”

Mr. Xie mocked him, then walked into the hospital with his father.

Deng Tianwen had just arrived in Jiangzhou and wasn’t planning to stay long, so naturally, he hadn’t bought a Car.

It was funny how he was being mocked about it now, but he didn’t care.

    “Dad, Mom, don’t worry…”

    “Huh?!”

Before Deng Tianwen could finish, Hou Xiaoyan’s parents stared at him, eyes wide.

“What are you shouting for?!” Hou Xiaoyan’s cheeks flushed red. She glared at him, annoyed. “Mom, Dad, don’t listen to him. He’s just a regular friend.”

“Heh.” Deng Tianwen smiled and didn’t explain further. He could tell Hou Xiaoyan’s attitude toward him had shifted.

Clearly, it was because of what had happened at the hospital entrance.

Looks like coming here was the right idea. This hospital trip sure sped up his romantic progress.

Hou Xiaoyan’s parents exchanged glances. Of course, they didn’t believe the ‘just friends’ excuse.

Would a regular friend call them ‘Mom and Dad’?

About ten minutes later, a black Rolls-Royce pulled up outside the hospital.

Xu Shaochen got out, bringing along Long Yi and Long Er.

“What took you so long? You made my parents wait outside the hospital! Don’t you feel ashamed?”

Deng Tianwen scolded Xu Shaochen, but it was all just part of his act to keep calling them ‘Mom and Dad,’ trying to make himself look like Hou Xiaoyan’s boyfriend.

Hou Xiaoyan was too tired to even argue, knowing it was useless. The more she said, the worse it would get.

Her parents exchanged looks, surprised that Deng Tianwen was friends with someone like Xu Shaochen.

Just from his clothes, Car, and the two bodyguards behind him, it was clear Xu Shaochen was far from ordinary.

Could Deng Tianwen’s family be simple when he was friends with someone like this?

Her parents felt a mix of joy and worry.

Joy, because if their daughter married Deng Tianwen, she wouldn’t have to suffer.

Worry, because they weren’t sure if Deng Tianwen truly liked their daughter or was just playing around.

“Chairman Xu, why did you come in person? There’s no need to trouble you.”

Seeing Xu Shaochen, Hou Xiaoyan looked flustered. She hadn’t realized that Deng Tianwen had called him.

“You’re my employee. How could this be a hassle?” Xu Shaochen feigned displeasure, then turned to Hou Xiaoyan’s parents. “Uncle, Auntie, let’s head inside.”

    “Yes, yes, of course.”

Hou Xiaoyan’s parents were overwhelmed with gratitude.
