Chapter 676: There’s Always Someone Taller
by xennovel“Mr. Xu, rest assured. I will make sure you get a satisfactory explanation for this matter.”
Liu Fu took a deep breath, looking at Xu Shaochen and speaking firmly.
“No need for your explanations. Didn’t this Doctor Liu just say? Let him kneel and invite my friend’s parents in.”
Xu Shaochen spoke calmly, his demeanor unshaken.
“Uncle…”
Doctor Liu pitifully looked at Liu Fu. Never mind how difficult this was—it was mostly just humiliating.
“Go. Otherwise, I won’t even be able to protect you.”
Liu Fu took another deep breath before waving him off.
“Uncle, I won’t kneel! Worst case, I just quit my job at the Hospital!”
Having said that, Doctor Liu turned to walk out.
“Shing!”
At that moment, Long Yi and Long Er at the door both simultaneously drew their guns, aiming straight at him.
“Ah!”
Everyone in the ward was startled by the sudden scene.
Even the previously arrogant Mr. Xie and his wife turned pale, realizing they had kicked a steel board.
“Mr. Xu, please calm down! Mr. Xu, please calm down! He’s the only male heir of our Liu Family.”
Liu Fu was also shocked. He grabbed Xu Shaochen’s arm, pleading desperately.
“I’ll just ask you one question. Kneel or not? If you don’t kneel, you might as well lose your legs. I might as well have them amputated!”
Xu Shaochen said to Doctor Liu, his voice calm, but the words sent a chill through everyone’s spine.
“I… I’ll kneel! I’ll kneel! I’ll kneel right now.”
Doctor Liu stammered as cold sweat dripped down his forehead. He slowly knelt and crawled toward the outside.
As he crawled out of the ward, everyone looked at him in disbelief.
But at that moment, Doctor Liu didn’t feel any shame. He only felt relief—he was still alive.
All he wanted now was to quickly crawl outside and bring Hou Xiaoyan’s parents back so this nightmare could end.
Inside the ward.
Xu Shaochen looked at Mr. Xie.
“Thump!”
Mr. Xie didn’t hesitate, pulling his wife down to kneel beside him.
“Mr… Mr. Xu, spare us! Mr. Xu, we’ll leave immediately. We’ll vacate the bed right away!”
“It’s entirely our fault. We shouldn’t have forcibly taken your friend’s bed.”
Mr. Xie begged for mercy, glancing up nervously at Xu Shaochen. Anyone bold enough to draw a gun in public could surely make good on his threats.
“You don’t know me now, but soon you will. My name is Xu Shaochen. Heard of me?”
Xu Shaochen looked down at him, towering over the pair.
When Mr. Xie heard the name, he paused for a moment before his face turned deathly pale, his body shaking uncontrollably.
“Mr… Mr. Xu, I truly didn’t recognize your greatness. Please, I beg you, spare me! Treat me like a nobody you don’t even notice!”
Saying this, he started knocking his head on the floor repeatedly, filled with fear and regret.
Xu Shaochen! Though he had never met this man before, the name resounded like thunder in his ears.
There had been times he once imagined seeking Xu Shaochen’s guidance, hoping it would propel him to greater heights.
Now that he had finally met him, it was under circumstances where he had deeply offended him. His intestines churned with regret.
“I’m not interested in the hospital bed. What interests me is what I’ve heard from my friend—that you just said money and connections mean you can push people around.”
“Now I’ll show you with a real example. I’ve got more money and better connections than you. So just by introducing myself, I can make you kneel and beg for mercy.”
“Keep a low profile from now on. Understand? There’s always a taller mountain ahead. Without real power, be careful or one day you’ll be fed to the fish, without even knowing how it happened! You ignorant fool!”
Xu Shaochen’s tone remained even as he spoke, his face expressionless.
Mr. Xie’s face turned varying shades of green and white, wishing he could dig a hole to hide in. He felt utterly disgraced.
Since his company had grown, he had become increasingly pompous, always looking down his nose at others, especially when flaunting his power.
But today, in front of Xu Shaochen, he found that he wasn’t even worthy to be called a little brother.
Looking at himself now, he felt as though he saw himself in the faces of the ordinary people he had once bullied.
Perhaps their hearts had felt the same way his did now.
“Is there a VIP ward available?” Xu Shaochen asked, turning to Liu Fu.
“Doctor Liu just said there weren’t any left,” Hou Xiaoyan responded quickly.
But Liu Fu quickly nodded. “There is one—there’s always one high-level VIP ward that’s not available to the public.”
“Make the arrangements.” Xu Shaochen then turned to Deng Tianwen. “I don’t suppose I’m paying for this?”
“No way! I’ll pay for it right now.” Deng Tianwen smiled, eager to comply.
Liu Fu, trying to ingratiate himself, quickly added: “Mr. Xu, that won’t be necessary. Helping you is my honor.”
“That money’s not going into your pocket. The Hospital isn’t yours. Understood?”
Xu Shaochen’s voice was cold. He had no respect for people like this.
Liu Fu’s face turned a variety of colors, similar to a color palette, as he nodded with a mixture of embarrassment and shame.
“Understood. Mr. Xu, your reprimand is well noted.”
Without even sparing Liu Fu another glance, Xu Shaochen turned and walked out of the ward.
“Phew—”
Only after Xu Shaochen had left did Mr. Xie and his wife breathe a long sigh of relief.
Both of them collapsed on the floor like limp rags, soaked in cold sweat.
“I told you many times, making money isn’t easy. Don’t flaunt your wealth! Otherwise, you’re bound to get into trouble. Well, look at today—at least this incident will teach you a lesson.”
Lying in the hospital bed, Mr. Xie’s father shook his head, looking at his son with a hint of disappointment.
“Dad, I… I understand now.”
Mr. Xie said, deeply ashamed. All the words his father had lectured him with in the past flashed through his mind, words he had ignored or even scoffed at.
Today, he finally reaped the consequences of his arrogance. Fortunately, things didn’t get too far out of hand, or else it could have ended worse for him.
In the high-level VIP ward.
“This… this ward must be expensive.”
Hou Xiaoyan’s parents hesitated to even sit down on the luxurious hospital bed.
The scene caused Xu Shaochen to think back to his own mother.
When she was moved to the VIP room back then, she had been just as anxious and uneasy.
“Mom and Dad, it’s fine! We have money. If we have money, we should spend it. I can’t take it with me when I’m gone, right?”
Deng Tianwen chuckled, acting as if he were already their son-in-law.
“Son, you still shouldn’t waste money carelessly,” Hou Xiaoyan’s father said earnestly.
Overjoyed, Deng Tianwen replied, “Yes, yes! You’re absolutely right, Dad.”
This acknowledgment meant only one thing—he had been accepted by them.
Hou Xiaoyan rolled her eyes at him. Several times she had tried to speak, but he had cut her off, leaving her fuming.
Seeing the scene, Xu Shaochen smiled and shook his head, discreetly leading Long Yi and Long Er out.
With the family enjoying their time together, there was no need for him to act like a third wheel.
