Chapter Index

Upon hearing Deng Tianwen say that.

Xu Shaochen thought carefully. Deng Tianquan and Deng Tianyang were indeed like that.

Both of them carried an inexplicable arrogance and sense of superiority.

Previously, Xu Shaochen only thought that the two of them were simply not right in the head. But after hearing what Deng Tianwen said, it turns out most of the Deng Family is like that.

“So, the Deng Family is just like the late Qing Dynasty. They need reform to break the current situation.”

“And I, without a doubt, am the best candidate.”

    Deng Tianwen said resolutely.

Xu Shaochen rolled his eyes: “If you hadn’t said that last sentence, I might have actually believed you.”

“What I’m saying is the truth. Why don’t you believe me? The relationships within the Deng Family are too close-knit, full of nepotism. Even if someone saw the flaws, no one would dare to push for reform because they couldn’t get any space to act.”

“But I’m different. My relations with the other Deng Family members are quite ordinary. I don’t have as many concerns. If I were to take charge of the Deng Family, I would undoubtedly lead them boldly toward a new era.”

Deng Tianwen spoke confidently, like a teenager saying he wanted to become an astronaut.

Xu Shaochen smirked: “You manage to make being disliked sound so elegant. You’re the first.”

“With your level of shamelessness, I do think you might really lead the Deng Family into a new era.”

“See? That’s called mutual admiration of heroes!” Deng Tianwen chose to selectively ignore Xu Shaochen’s previous comment.

But he believed it wasn’t ignoring. He called it focusing on the important points.

Xu Shaochen took a drink from his wine glass: “Fine, then, we’ll do it your way. After all, you’re the one picking up the blade, and the ones falling under it are your Deng Family. I don’t care.”

“Don’t make it sound so bloody. What blade? It’s called opening a new path. The people who stand in my way are blocking the rise of the Deng Family, and of course, they must be completely swept aside!”

Deng Tianwen spoke righteously. In essence, it was still about power struggles, but rewording it made it sound lofty.

    Sometimes it’s just like that.

Put a glorious coat on dirty and selfish actions, and all people see is the glorious coat, not the ugliness beneath.

“Now that we’ve discussed business, let’s talk about personal matters. I’ll definitely return to the Northwest. When the time comes, I’ll trouble you to look after my parents.”

Deng Tianwen raised his wine glass and looked at Xu Shaochen with a serious expression.

“You keep mentioning your ‘parents’. Did Hou Xiaoyan agree to this?” Xu Shaochen showed his disdain for such shameless behavior.

Deng Tianwen chuckled: “I think it’s close. After yesterday, her attitude toward me has changed noticeably.”

“Aren’t you worried that while I’m taking care of your parents, they could end up becoming my parents?” Xu Shaochen joked.

Deng Tianwen sneered: “That’s impossible. My Xiaoyan hates men like you the most—the type who floats between multiple women.”

“That’s called universal love. Understand? Universal love!” Xu Shaochen corrected him.

Deng Tianwen wasn’t impressed: “Screw your universal love. Men understand men best. Don’t I know you by now?”

“About that Deng Family matter… I think I need to reconsider…” Xu Shaochen said.

“Universal love, right! Your behavior is all about universal love. I was just joking earlier, don’t take it to heart.”

Deng Tianwen quickly changed his tone and looked at Xu Shaochen with a flattering smile.

“Hmph! You think I can’t handle a rascal like you.”

Xu Shaochen snorted, put down his glass, and got up to leave the private room.

    “Where are you going?”

    Deng Tianwen asked in confusion.

    “To the restroom.”

Xu Shaochen replied without turning his head.

    “I’ll go too.”

It seems that regardless of age, men often go to the restroom in groups.

When they arrived at the restroom, Xu Shaochen finished quickly, washed his hands, and left.

After all, he wasn’t a child anymore. There was no need to wait outside for Deng Tianwen.

    “Mr. Xu?”

Unexpectedly, on his way back, Xu Shaochen bumped into an old acquaintance, Ye Huaiyuan.

“What a coincidence, Chairman Ye.” Xu Shaochen smiled and greeted him.

“A friend from out of town is hosting a dinner. Which private room are you in, Mr. Xu? I’ll come by for a toast later.”

    Ye Huaiyuan asked.

“Just in the next room. I’ll head back now.”

Xu Shaochen pointed to the side and then walked back to his private room.

    In the restroom.

Deng Tianwen hadn’t finished yet. Maybe due to poor kidney function, he had to stand for a while before he could finally relieve himself.

    “Tap, tap, tap—”

Hearing footsteps, Deng Tianwen instinctively turned his head and was shocked: “Third Uncle?”

“Tianwen, what a coincidence.” Deng Xuan, upon seeing Deng Tianwen, was also surprised. He hadn’t expected to run into him here.

Deng Tianwen curiously asked, “Third Uncle, what brings you to Jiangzhou?”

“Taking care of some business.” Deng Xuan didn’t want to elaborate, as he didn’t think much of his unremarkable nephew.

Deng Tianwen casually said, “Third Uncle, is there anything I can help with? Just let me know.”

“Heh heh, no need. I’ve arranged to meet some friends tonight. They’ll help me take care of it.” Deng Xuan smiled dismissively, not taking Deng Tianwen’s offer seriously.

In the Deng Family, Deng Tianwen was famous for being mediocre. Some even called him useless.

This fool was even volunteering to avenge the deaths of Deng Tianyang and Deng Tianquan? What a joke. Did he think taking down Xu Shaochen would be easy?

    Help?

Ha, what help could this fool possibly offer? It was a joke. He just hoped Deng Tianwen wouldn’t rope him into trying to die alongside him while going after Xu Shaochen.

Unlike others in the Deng Family, as an antique dealer and part-time tomb raider, Deng Xuan often traveled both domestically and internationally.

So, he had a better understanding of the power of the Xu Corporation. In his eyes, Deng Tianyang and Deng Tianquan’s deaths were simply a waste.

He had mentioned this to the family back then, but they accused him of boosting the enemy’s morale while undermining his own. So, he stopped caring.

Too bad he still didn’t know that the ancient tomb’s land belonged to Xu Shaochen.

Seeing that Deng Xuan wasn’t very responsive, Deng Tianwen didn’t keep pestering him: “Alright, I’ll be off then, Third Uncle.”

    “Mm.”

Deng Xuan nodded perfunctorily, not even looking directly at him.

Deng Tianwen pursed his lips, washed his hands, and headed back to the private room.

“Today, you ignore me. Tomorrow, I’ll be out of your reach.”

Deng Xuan represented the attitude that most people in the Deng Family had toward him.

But Deng Tianwen didn’t mind. It was their underestimation and neglect of him that gave him so much time to grow.

Not long after Deng Tianwen returned to the private room, Deng Xuan also returned to his own.

Inside Deng Xuan’s private room, there were three people. One of them was Ye Huaiyuan, whom Xu Shaochen had just bumped into in the hallway.
