Chapter Index

    Facing so many handguns.

Deng Tianfeng and the two others instantly turned pale, sweat beading on their foreheads as they stood frozen in place, bodies stiffened.

They didn’t dare to move, fearing any action might be misinterpreted and lead to a barrage of bullets.

“Now, repeat what you just said. I didn’t hear it clearly.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Deng Tiansheng and spoke calmly.

Deng Tiansheng’s throat felt parched. He kept swallowing, as if doing so could erase the fear in his heart.

Facing Xu Shaochen, he no longer had the courage to repeat his previous words.

“Why aren’t you speaking? Do you look down on me, or are you too proud to talk to me?”

Xu Shaochen’s face darkened, and he lightly patted Deng Tiansheng’s face.

Deng Tiansheng forced a smile that looked worse than crying: “No…no, I…I…”

“Tiansheng, don’t be afraid! I refuse to believe he dares to shoot! He wouldn’t dare to ignore the strength of the Deng Family!”

Deng Tianfeng interrupted, sneering at Xu Shaochen with an arrogant tone, overly confident in the Deng Family’s power.

“Make him kneel before speaking to me.”

    Xu Shaochen said casually.

    Bang!

As soon as he spoke, Long Yi shot Deng Tianfeng in the leg, a burst of blood mist exploding from the wound.

    “Ah!”

Deng Tianfeng screamed painfully as he dropped to his knees, his face twisted in agony.

It wasn’t a serious injury. Long Yi had chosen the spot carefully. After removing the bullet at the hospital, a brief recovery period would suffice.

Of course, it was enough to instill fear.

It was a classic case of ‘killing the chicken to scare the monkey.’ The results proved effective.

Deng Tianfang and Deng Tiansheng shuddered. Deng Tianfeng’s blood-soaked example confirmed Xu Shaochen’s willingness to pull the trigger.

“Deng Tianquan and Deng Tianyang both died in Jiangzhou, and you still think I won’t shoot? Was your brain kicked by a donkey?”

Xu Shaochen looked down at Deng Tianfeng from above, as if looking at an idiot.

Deng Tianfeng clutched his bleeding wound and cried out, “I agree! I agree to withdraw from the competition! Please, help me stop the bleeding. I’m begging you!”

“What about the two of you? Give me a clear answer. Like you said earlier, we’re all busy. We don’t have time to waste.”

Xu Shaochen glanced at Deng Tianfang and Deng Tiansheng with a hostile glare, as if daring them to refuse, ready to order them riddled with bullets.

The two men exchanged glances, then looked at the moaning Deng Tianfeng. They swallowed hard and said, “W-we also agree to withdraw from the competition.”

They had no choice. They were no match for the current situation and had to surrender.

“In times like these, you can’t trust anyone, even blood brothers. I need something more tangible to guarantee your loyalty.”

As Xu Shaochen spoke, he pulled out a recording pen. “Come on, spill your dirty secrets. Let’s share them around, so I know I can trust you.”

The three hesitated for a moment, but in the end, Deng Tianfeng, fearing he might bleed to death, was the first to speak.

Then Deng Tianfang and Deng Tiansheng followed, confessing the secrets they had hoped would never see the light of day.

    “Well, I’ve done my part.”

Xu Shaochen casually tossed the recording pen to Deng Tianwen.

Deng Tianwen fiddled with the pen for a while before looking at Deng Tianfang and saying: “Third Brother, last night I helped you with your suitcase. After I become the family head, you can boast that the family head personally helped you with your luggage. That’s something to brag about for life.”

Deng Tianfang’s face flushed as if he had been slapped multiple times. It was humiliating! Deng Tianfeng and Deng Tiansheng didn’t look any better; after all, they had always looked down on Deng Tianwen.

Reflecting now, they realized how foolish they had been. To Deng Tianwen, they must have always seemed like monkeys performing tricks. How laughable!

What made it worse was how oblivious they had been, flaunting their supposed superiority. It was beyond embarrassing now.

“I don’t have any other requests. After all these years of being disfavored by you, I’m used to it. Just speak to me with a bit more respect going forward, and I’ll be content.”

Deng Tianwen said with a cheerful smile.

    “Yes, yes, of course.”

The three of them nodded like chickens pecking at grain, all traces of their former arrogance gone.

“Get two doctors in here to handle his leg.”

Xu Shaochen pointed at Deng Tianfeng’s bloodied leg and turned to Long Yi.

    “Yes, Mr. Xu.”

Long Yi acknowledged, then pulled out his Phone and left the room to make the call.

“I’ll be off now. Just transfer the 10 billion into my account.”

Xu Shaochen said to Deng Tianwen. That 10 billion appearance fee was something even all the world’s acting legends combined couldn’t match.

Deng Tianwen nodded: “Thanks. I’ll be heading back to the Northwest in a couple of days. I’ll transfer the money once I secure things.”

“Just don’t forget what you promised.”

Xu Shaochen said casually, then left the room with an entourage of bodyguards surrounding him like stars around the moon.

“Tianwen, I’m not satisfied, but I can’t help it. I just want to know, when did you start planning all this?”

Deng Tianfang took a deep breath and asked as he looked at Deng Tianwen.

Deng Tianwen chuckled calmly: “The day Lai Huan died. That’s when I realized if I couldn’t change myself, I had to change the entire Deng Family and take control.”

“Only then could I ensure my next woman wouldn’t meet the same fate as Lai Huan. And, as you can see, I’m almost there.”

    “Hiss—”

Even Deng Xuan, who had been sitting quietly up until now, couldn’t help but gasp in disbelief, staring at Deng Tianwen.

Nobody had imagined he had endured so long, wearing a mask for years—over a thousand days and nights. Without incredible mental strength, anyone would go mad.

    “I lost fair and square.”

Deng Tianfang smiled bitterly. For Deng Tianwen to maintain such pretense for so long and still lose? That would have been truly strange.

“Why did Third Uncle help you?” Deng Tianfang regretted asking right after. It felt like a foolish question.

Sure enough, Deng Xuan responded weakly: “Because I ended up just like you, meat on the chopping block. Do I have any other choice?”

Deng Tianfang sighed powerlessly. The main reason Deng Tianwen succeeded was because of Xu Shaochen’s help.

Without him, he wouldn’t have achieved anything in Jiangzhou.

Of course, he didn’t realize Xu Shaochen had been forced into this by Deng Tianwen.

In the end, the biggest winners in the game were Deng Tianwen and Xu Shaochen. It was a classic win-win scenario.

As for everyone else, they were all losers.
