Chapter Index

    “Really?”

Xu Gui was still somewhat skeptical.

Xu Ling spoke earnestly: “Dad, of course it’s true. Otherwise, why haven’t I been in touch for so many days? Why would I suddenly give you a call now?”

“I’ve been spending the last few days researching this project. Those two colleagues are the same. They’re also very interested in it.”

“Alright then. As expected of my daughter, Xu Gui! You’ve already brought in two people so quickly. Once you enter the company, you’ll immediately be promoted to Level 3 agent.”

Xu Gui finally believed Xu Ling’s words. He was quite happy that his daughter had wised up.

“So, Dad, how do we find you?”

    Xu Ling asked.

“Hmm…” Xu Gui pondered for a moment and then said, “Set a location, and I’ll come to pick you all up.”

Obviously, he was still cautious and didn’t want to reveal his hiding spot.

“Okay, let’s… let’s meet under the billboard at Central Plaza. We’ll head over right away.”

Only after Xu Shaochen nodded did Xu Ling speak.

    “Alright, hanging up now.”

With that, Xu Gui hung up the Phone.

“At that time, I’ll have two people pose as your colleagues and go with you.”

Xu Shaochen said to Xu Ling. He planned to scout the area first and find the exact location.

Then he would have the Police handle it later.

    “Okay, thank you.”

    Xu Ling nodded gratefully.

    ………………

    Half an hour later.

At Central Plaza, under a large billboard.

Xu Ling was waiting there, along with two slim young men dressed in casual wear.

These two were Xu Shaochen’s bodyguards, deliberately chosen for being thin.

After all, someone like Long Yi, who was burly and imposing, would make people uneasy and likely raise suspicion.

As for Xu Shaochen, he was currently sitting in a discreet Volkswagen by the roadside.

Behind the Volkswagen was a Toyota van, carrying ten bodyguards.

About ten minutes later, Xu Gui appeared within Xu Shaochen’s line of sight.

    Xu Shaochen instinctively sat upright.

In his memory, his second uncle had a beer belly. But now, he’d unexpectedly slimmed down quite a bit.

Seems life hasn’t been treating him well lately. The team promising him great wealth must be starving him; he’s lost a good amount of weight.

Shortly after, Xu Gui exchanged a few words with Xu Ling. In about five minutes, Xu Gui led Xu Ling and the others into a taxi.

    “Follow them.”

Xu Shaochen spat out these words in a calm tone.

The white Volkswagen slowly started up, tailing the taxi along with the Toyota van behind it.

About half an hour later, the taxi stopped at the entrance of an old residential compound.

After watching Xu Gui lead Xu Ling and her group inside, Xu Shaochen and his men got out and followed.

Both of Xu Ling’s bodyguards had their Phones on call, pretending to casually mention the floor and room number, ensuring Xu Shaochen on the other end could hear it.

The old residential compound didn’t have an elevator, only stairs.

A few minutes later, Xu Shaochen and his men arrived at the door of House number 012.

    “Knock, knock, knock…”

Xu Shaochen knocked on the door.

    “Who is it?”

A gruff voice came from inside.

“I’m from downstairs. The drainpipe outside is blocked. Could I use your balcony for a moment?”

    Xu Shaochen replied calmly.

    “No.”

The person inside refused without hesitation.

“Sigh, alright then, never mind. Sorry to bother you, bro. I’ll call the fire department, maybe they can help.”

Xu Shaochen pretended to be helpless.

    “Wait!”

A hurried voice came from inside, followed by the sound of the door opening. A middle-aged man with a stubbly beard blocked the entrance: “We have a lot of friends inside. Make it quick, okay?”

Upon hearing Xu Shaochen mention the fire department, the man panicked. If they came knocking, the situation inside would definitely raise suspicion.

    “Bang!”

Xu Shaochen kicked the door open.

    “Ah!”

The bearded man screamed and staggered backward.

“Someone’s causing trouble! Grab your weapons!”

The room instantly descended into chaos.

However, once Xu Shaochen and his men entered the living room, the previously rowdy people immediately fell silent.

    They were cowed.

Xu Shaochen glanced around. The bedroom door was open, revealing no bed inside. The floor was covered with Cardboard, likely serving as their sleeping spot.

    “W-what do you want?”

A bespectacled middle-aged man stammered at Xu Shaochen.

Ignoring him, Xu Shaochen turned to Xu Ling and said, “Alright, take your dad and leave. You don’t need to worry about the rest.”

“No! I’m not going! Xu Shaochen, stop meddling! I know you’re rich now! You’re just jealous! You don’t want to see us succeed too!”

Xu Gui’s reaction was intense. It was as if he had been bewitched, shouting furiously at Xu Shaochen.

    “Slap!”

Xu Shaochen stepped forward and smacked him across the face, spitting in contempt: “Loser. You’ve turned a perfectly good family into this mess. If it weren’t for cousin Xu Ling begging me, I wouldn’t care whether you lived or died.”

    “Drag him out!”

As soon as he finished his sentence, the two bodyguards with Xu Ling forcibly dragged Xu Gui outside.

“What are you doing?! Let me go! Let me go! I’m calling the Police! I’m calling the Police!”

Xu Gui struggled, but it was all in vain.

“You should head out too.” Xu Shaochen said to Xu Ling.

Xu Ling nodded and left the room.

“Bro… which gang are you with? We didn’t realize we were crossing paths with someone we shouldn’t. Xu Gui’s your relative, right?”

“Don’t worry, we’ll give you back every cent he paid, double. Let’s just leave it at that, alright? What do you say?”

The bespectacled man swallowed nervously. His face was pale as he forced a smile, trying to appease Xu Shaochen.

    “Slap!”

Xu Shaochen slapped him again, sending his glasses flying, and coldly said:

“I don’t think so. If I hadn’t caught you today, maybe I’d let you off, but now? You think you scumbags can keep cheating people?”

He paused, then called over Long Yi: “Call the Police, tell them we’ve caught a group of scammers.”

Scamming and pyramid schemes are two different things. The latter is tricky to deal with due to its murky lines, and offenders typically get out after ten days or so.

But scamming, once the amount involved is large, carries a sentence of at least three years.

“We can’t let him call the Police!”

The bespectacled man shouted and lunged at Long Yi, who was making the call.

His other lackeys also started to move, while some victims still hesitated, unsure of what to do.
