Chapter 708: Chen Dongqiu Plays Big
by xennovel“Thank you Mr. Xu! I toast to you.”
Chen Dongqiu breathed a sigh of relief his tense body finally relaxing as he gratefully raised his wine glass to Xu Shaochen.
Although he had maintained his composure throughout.
In reality he had been on edge the entire time.
While he had prepared for the possibility of losing that shipment if Xu Shaochen could help recover it that would be ideal.
“What areas are you involved in now?” Xu Shaochen asked.
Chen Dongqiu hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to reveal: “Cars various precious parts precision instruments and a whole series of other things.”
After a pause he added: “Last year I moved a batch of guns to Myanmar.”
“Hiss—”
Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but draw in a sharp breath looking at Chen Dongqiu in disbelief: “With all that how have you not taken over the entire Canglan Province market?”
He had originally thought Chen Dongqiu was just dabbling at most operating freely in Yunzhou otherwise he would have already taken over the Jiangzhou market.
But hearing Chen Dongqiu’s explanation now Xu Shaochen felt he had greatly misjudged him.
Dealing in these goods primarily relies on connections and shipping routes. For Chen Dongqiu to operate at this level he must be a significant figure if not internationally then at least domestically.
“Mr. Xu the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. No matter when the person at the forefront always becomes a target especially in my line of work that treads the line and all without my father’s knowledge.”
Chen Dongqiu said softly. In fact he had never imagined he would play such a big game.
Initially he only knew he had no hope of inheriting the family business so he wanted to use his family’s connections to find a way to make some pocket money.
Unexpectedly he discovered he had a talent for this line of work and his business grew like a snowball getting bigger and bigger.
He also knew that the bigger he played the more disastrous it would be if things blew up.
But it was as if he had opened Pandora’s box he simply couldn’t stop. He was being pushed forward by the people behind him.
Because now he didn’t represent just himself but an entire interest group. Behind him were countless people who depended on him for their livelihood.
If he wanted to stop would they allow it?
So he could only keep as low a profile as possible. People in the business knew he controlled a third of the Canglan Province market.
What they didn’t know was that the remaining two-thirds he had intentionally left for others otherwise they wouldn’t even get a taste.
However he had always been reaching for the Jiangzhou market but he didn’t dare make too big a move after all it was the provincial capital.
Xu Shaochen looked at the young Chen Dongqiu before him expressionless and silent. Truly you can’t judge a book by its cover or measure the sea in a bucket.
No one could associate this handsome young man with a smuggling tycoon.
“Bang!”
Just then the door of the private room was suddenly pushed open.
A woman ran in going straight to Chen Dongqiu’s side: “Brother Qiu why didn’t you call me for dinner!”
“Boss I… I really couldn’t stop Miss Zhao.”
A tall bodyguard followed closely behind looking at Chen Dongqiu with an apologetic expression.
Clearly this woman’s status was not simple and the bodyguard didn’t dare forcibly stop her.
Xu Shaochen initially thought this woman was Chen Dongqiu’s girlfriend but he keenly noticed a flash of impatience in Chen Dongqiu’s eyes.
“Miss Zhao you see… I’m entertaining a guest here it’s not very convenient. How about I treat you another day?”
Chen Dongqiu looked at the woman with an embarrassed smile on his face. This was already a polite way of asking her to leave.
“Brother Qiu don’t keep calling me Miss Zhao it’s too formal. Just call me Lingling.”
Zhao Ling unabashedly put her hand on Chen Dongqiu’s shoulder then looked at Xu Shaochen arrogantly and said:
“Hey you don’t you have any sense? Why are you still standing here being a third wheel? Hurry up and leave.”
Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow slightly displeased.
“Miss Zhao what are you doing!”
Chen Dongqiu’s face instantly darkened becoming terrifyingly cold.
Seeing this Zhao Ling pouted looking at Xu Shaochen with some disgust muttering under her breath: “Really clueless.”
“Dongqiu seeing as you’re preoccupied I’ll take my leave.”
Xu Shaochen looked at Chen Dongqiu with a slight smile as he spoke then stood up preparing to leave.
“That’s more like it.” Zhao Ling’s face immediately lit up with joy.
Chen Dongqiu hurriedly stood up: “Mr. Xu I’m terribly sorry. Why don’t we continue at the bar for the second half?”
“No need you’d better keep the young lady company.”
Xu Shaochen said casually nodding to Zhao Ling then strode out.
“Hey Mr. Xu…”
Chen Dongqiu wanted to go after him but Zhao Ling grabbed him: “Brother Qiu if he wants to leave why are you trying to keep him?”
“Slap!”
Chen Dongqiu finally couldn’t bear it anymore. He turned and slapped Zhao Ling hard across the face: “Shut up! Do you know who he is? Let me tell you even your father can’t afford to offend him!”
With that Chen Dongqiu no longer paid attention to Zhao Ling and stormed out in anger.
Although he believed Xu Shaochen wasn’t so petty as to blame him for Zhao Ling’s willfulness.
But he felt he had lost face. He had specially invited Xu Shaochen to dinner to ask for help and after Xu agreed to help the dinner was ruined.
Watching Chen Dongqiu’s retreating figure Zhao Ling stood there touching the handprint on her face muttering as if to herself:
“You actually hit me… you actually hit me for a man… hit me.”
As she spoke her eyes began to fill with resentment her face twisting into a grimace as she said through gritted teeth:
“It’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you Brother Qiu wouldn’t have yelled at me let alone hit me. It’s all your fault!”
The more she thought about it the more she hated Xu Shaochen who had just left.
She didn’t think she had done anything wrong and couldn’t bring herself to hate Chen Dongqiu so she could only hate Xu Shaochen transferring all her anger onto him.
“Come here!”
As soon as she spoke two young men in suits walked in: “Miss.”
“The man who just left probably hasn’t gone far. Go teach him a good lesson.”
“This… Miss that man seems to be Young Master Chen’s friend. Is this really appropriate?”
The two bodyguards exchanged glances and one of them gently advised Zhao Ling.
“Slap!”
Zhao Ling raised her hand and slapped him hard shouting angrily:
“Who’s in charge here you or me? When I tell you to go you go. Why all this nonsense? Break one of his legs!”
“I want him to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair!”
“Yes Miss.”
The two bodyguards stopped trying to persuade her because they knew their young miss too well. She was willful and capricious whatever she wanted had to be done.
Moreover in their view breaking someone’s leg wasn’t such a big deal.
