Chapter Index

It was late at night and all was quiet.

In a secluded villa on the outskirts of Jingcheng.

The place was heavily guarded with suit-clad bodyguards patrolling everywhere.

This was where Xiao Huang lived.

He rarely went home but no one in the Xiao Family cared including his parents.

The entire Jingcheng knew Xiao Huang’s notorious reputation. Living outside was probably convenient for his debauchery or keeping mistresses.

These were all normal things for Xiao Huang.

At this moment the villa was still brightly lit.

Xiao Huang sat on the sofa wearing a robe gently swirling a glass of red wine. A middle-aged man in a white lab coat stood respectfully before him.

    “How is the research progressing?”

Xiao Huang asked in a flat tone though a hint of intense heat flashed in his eyes almost imperceptibly.

The middle-aged man in the lab coat said cautiously “Young Master Xiao… we’re running out of funds.”

    “Bang!”

The wine glass in Xiao Huang’s hand flew out hitting the middle-aged man on the head shattering into pieces.

But the man in the lab coat didn’t dare to dodge or even wipe the wine from his face.

“Think about it how much money have I invested so far? Huh! You only ever tell me two things.”

“The research will succeed soon and we need more funds? Besides these two sentences have you said anything else in these years?”

Xiao Huang scolded angrily with a gloomy face. If he hadn’t truly seen hope he would have terminated this damn experiment long ago.

All the money he had earned over these years had been poured into this bottomless pit of an experimental project.

The middle-aged man said tremblingly “Young Master Xiao it’s really almost there this time but the closer we get to the end the more funds we need…”

“Enough! Shut up! Get back to your lab!”

Xiao Huang impatiently interrupted the middle-aged man before he could finish.

    “Yes Young Master Xiao.”

The middle-aged man in the lab coat nodded then turned and walked behind the sofa where he opened a hidden door.

Behind the hidden door was a staircase leading to a laboratory that Xiao Huang had built at enormous expense solely to crack one project.

With the departure of the middle-aged man in the lab coat only he remained in the spacious living room.

Thinking about money Xiao Huang thought of Xu Shaochen.

To him Xu Shaochen was like a bank Card loaded with a huge amount of money!

Although the password was a bit complicated as long as there was a password there was always a way to crack it.

Kidnapping Xie Wei was just one step towards achieving his goal.

Unexpectedly it failed and now he had completely fallen out with Xu Shaochen.

It was no longer feasible to get money using his previous methods.

Xu Shaochen definitely wouldn’t let this go.

A peculiar light flickered in Xiao Huang’s eyes.

He couldn’t confront Xu Shaochen on his own in this matter.

After all he was just a notorious good-for-nothing.

How could he have the ability to deal with Xu Shaochen?

So he had to find a way to drag the entire Xiao Family into this.

As Xiao Huang pondered a cold smile curled at the corners of his mouth.

    The next day.

    Morning at the hospital.

“This is all the information I could gather on the Xiao Family.”

Chen Ju handed a folder to Xu Shaochen.

Last night Xu Shaochen didn’t return to the hotel instead he booked a high-level VIP ward at the hospital.

It could no longer be called a ward. Private hospitals were indeed extravagant; with enough money you could enjoy a five-star hotel experience.

    “Thanks.”

Young Master Xu nodded took the folder and started looking through the documents inside.

The Xiao Family had a long history in Jingcheng. They had always kept a low profile but their power was formidable.

The Xiao Family claimed to be descendants of the Southern Qi royal family the historical dynasty that lasted only about twenty years.

The truth of this claim was unverifiable and no one really cared. After all modern society didn’t put much stock in such things.

Moreover the Xiao Family was wealthy and powerful. Not only could they claim to be descendants of the Southern Qi royal family but even if they claimed to be aliens there was nothing anyone could do about it.

The Xiao Family had limited involvement in politics. Of course this could also mean their involvement was too deep to be uncovered.

The Xiao Family was too low-key so there was little information available.

The most important information was about Xiao Huang.

Xiao Huang the third young master of the Xiao Family.

He could be said to be one of the top good-for-nothings in Jingcheng and the only one in the Xiao Family who was a disgrace.

His notorious behavior filled several pages a testament to his rich historical legacy of misbehavior.

But Xu Shaochen noticed something odd.

While Xiao Huang appeared to be a reckless good-for-nothing on the surface several businesses under his control which others saw as foolish ventures were actually thriving.

Xu Shaochen’s first reaction was that this guy was probably an actor the kind who acted like a good boy in front but stabbed you in the back.

Everyone knew he was a good-for-nothing.

But could he be using this identity to cover up something?

“Young Master Xu when do you plan to make your move?”

Chen Ju’s words broke Xu Shaochen’s wandering thoughts that were drifting towards Java.

Xu Shaochen closed the file and said calmly “Of course after the Old Master’s birthday. I’ll deal with him when I have time then.”

He had thought Old Master Chen’s “in a couple of days” was just a general expression.

But he learned from Chen Ju that when Old Master Chen said “in a couple of days” he literally meant in a couple of days.

    Tomorrow was his birthday.

It was just one day Xu Shaochen could wait. Let him live one more day.

No matter what Xiao Huang must die.

Meanwhile at the Xiao Family house.

Xiao Huang whom Xu Shaochen was thinking about was now crying a river of tears and snot in front of his father.

“Dad… Dad you must save me!”

Xiao Huang knelt on the ground looking at his father with a pitiful expression which was very much in line with his usual persona.

“You damn fool! Get up and speak! How did I end up with such a useless son!”

Seeing Xiao Huang like this Xiao Li was furious his face turning a dark shade of purple.

If not for the fact that he was his own son this waste who brought shame to the family would have been kicked out to fend for himself long ago.

“Dad it’s different this time I’m not lying. If you don’t save me I’m as good as dead.”

Xiao Huang hugged Xiao Li’s leg tears streaming down his face.

Years of acting had honed his skills to perfection even the muscles in his face were perfectly controlled.

    “Tell me what’s going on.”

    Xiao Li’s expression turned serious.

“Dad I… I offended Xu Shaochen. He… he wants to kill me!”

    Xiao Huang wailed.

“What did you say? Xu Shaochen! What the hell did you do for him to want to kill you!”

Xiao Li’s voice uncontrollably rose by several decibels. He really couldn’t imagine how these two had come into contact.

Xiao Huang stuttered “I… I liked a girl. I didn’t know she was his girlfriend. Then… then… Dad save me!”

As he spoke he started crying again his performance exquisitely lifelike.
