Chapter Index

“Mr. Xu, how about we move to my office for a chat?”

Zhao Qing looked at Xu Shaochen respectfully as he spoke.

“President Zhao, we had an appointment with President Li…” The secretary cautiously reminded him from the side.

“Cancel it!” Zhao Qing interrupted her bluntly before she could finish.

The business could be postponed, but Xu Shaochen must not be neglected.

The secretary was left speechless but was filled with curiosity about Xu Shaochen—just what kind of person was he? Zhao Qing then led the way, with Xu Shaochen following him into his office.

As for Wang Gang, who was lying on the ground like a dead dog, neither of them spared him another glance.

    Inside Zhao Qing’s office.

“Mr. Xu, please let me know what you would like to drink. Wine, or a soft drink?”

Zhao Qing, who entered the office, maintained a half-step behind Xu Shaochen, keeping a very humble posture.

“A glass of water will do.”

Xu Shaochen sat down unceremoniously on the sofa while sizing up the office decor, casually saying.

Zhao Qing quickly grabbed a cup and eagerly poured Xu Shaochen a glass of water, placing it respectfully in front of him: “Mr. Xu, may I ask why you honor us with your presence today? Whatever you need, just say the word. I, Zhao Qing, will go to any lengths necessary!”

“Heh, it’s not that serious. I’m actually here to bring you some money.”

Xu Shaochen took a sip of water. He especially liked this kind of person who knew their place, who understood their own worth.

Zhao Qing was taken aback: “Bringing money? Please, Mr. Xu, clarify.”

“I’ve taken a liking to a plot of land in the Old City. I’ll send someone to go with you to negotiate. My person will brief you on the details, but you’ll take the lead. You help me secure that land, and I’ll entrust you with the subsequent demolition project.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Zhao Qing and spoke calmly.

“Don’t worry Mr. Xu, I’ll handle it perfectly.”

Zhao Qing responded decisively, while his heart was bursting with joy. Indeed, it was raining money! If Xu Shaochen had his eye on it, the demolition project definitely wouldn’t be small.

This confirmed the importance of clinging to a golden thigh! Sitting at home, money just falls from the sky, leaving him dizzy.

This only strengthened Zhao Qing’s resolve to wholeheartedly be Xu Shaochen’s loyal follower.

“Tomorrow. I’ll have my person come find you tomorrow.”

As Xu Shaochen finished speaking, he took another sip of water before standing up from the sofa.

“Mr. Xu, let me see you off.”

Zhao Qing hurried to keep up, avoiding the foolish move of asking Xu Shaochen to stay longer.

Who was Xu Shaochen? Would he waste his time with a small character like him?

    “Take care, Mr. Xu.”

After escorting Xu Shaochen out of the company and seeing him into his car, Zhao Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the cold sweat off his forehead.

Facing Xu Shaochen was more exhausting than pulling an all-nighter at work, mostly due to the psychological pressure.

Every word spoken and every action had to be meticulously thought out, for fear of inadvertently offending Xu Shaochen.

An idea arose in his mind—perhaps this is how the eunuchs who served the emperors in ancient times must have felt.

“President Zhao, who was that person?”

The female secretary carefully asked, her big watery eyes full of curiosity.

    “A big shot.”

Zhao Qing softly tossed the reply over his shoulder and walked back into the company without elaborating.

    “A big shot?”

The female secretary stood there, her beautiful eyes sparkling with a peculiar light. If only she could catch the attention of such a big shot.

    ………………

    “Boss, where to next?”

In the car, Long Er asked Xu Shaochen, who was seated in the back.

Xu Shaochen pondered for a moment before replying: “To the Yuanguan 4S Store.”

It was neither too early nor too late. If he went home, Linda wouldn’t be off work yet, leaving him alone.

He might as well go to the 4S store to spend some time with Sister Xinran and develop their relationship.

    “Yes, Boss.”

Long Er responded, and the car started moving smoothly.

Sitting in the back seat, Xu Shaochen soon closed his eyes and dozed off.

    “Screeetch——”

About ten minutes later, the vehicle came to a sudden stop, jolting Xu Shaochen awake.

“What’s going on?” Xu Shaochen frowned and asked.

“Boss, someone staged a hit-and-run.” Long Er replied with a sullen face.

He had been driving steadily when suddenly someone darted out. The car hadn’t even touched him, but the person collapsed immediately.

For safety’s sake, Long Er had slammed the brakes.

Hearing this, Xu Shaochen’s eyebrows twitched: “Get out and check.”

With that, Xu Shaochen opened the door and got out of the car.

He often saw these hit-and-run setups on the news, but this was the first time it happened to him.

He loathed these scumbags who staged accidents to extort money from others.

“Ouch, my leg! My back! My back is about to break!”

In front of the car, a middle-aged man in his forties was lying on the ground, wailing in pain, with a pile of scattered belongings around him.

“Hey buddy, you’re in your prime, and you’re doing this kind of thing? Have you no shame? Aren’t you afraid your family will be cursed with misfortune?”

Xu Shaochen coldly looked at the man putting on an act. The car hadn’t even touched him, but he was performing quite convincingly—a professional scammer for sure. Who knows how many people he had scammed.

Most people who got caught in his trap would just pay a thousand or two to avoid the trouble. But Xu Shaochen wasn’t one to be bothered by such things.

If he had to pay, not a single cent would come from him.

“How can you speak like that, young man! You drive such a nice car, but you lack any compassion. I got hit by you, yet you act so righteous! This is infuriating! I tell you, if you don’t pay today, you’re not leaving!”

The man on the ground glared at Xu Shaochen with righteous indignation, as though he had suffered a great injustice.

“Throw him into the flowerbed over there.”

Xu Shaochen shot him a cold glance and directed Long Er without hesitation.

“Help! Somebody, please help! This guy hit me with his car and is trying to flee the scene! Someone please stand up for me, a poor victim!”

The middle-aged man immediately grabbed Xu Shaochen’s leg and started wailing at the top of his lungs.

Within moments, the scene attracted the attention of passing pedestrians, who began to gather and watch.

“What’s wrong with that guy? Drives such a nice car but has no conscience. Hits someone and tries to run, what a scumbag!”

A middle-aged woman with a handbag stepped forward, pointing at Xu Shaochen and launching into a tirade at him from a moral high ground.

“Yes, at least take the person to the hospital.”

“This is horrible. He hit someone and doesn’t want to take responsibility.”

“I’m telling you, with so many of us here, you’re not getting away today.”

Once the first person spoke up, the others quickly joined in, aiming their judgmental words at Xu Shaochen.

Some people suspected it was a hit-and-run scam, but that notion was soon drowned out by the self-righteous, brainless comments of the mob.
