Chapter Index

Liao Dapao and Little Four were locked up together.

When Xiao Si saw Xu Shaochen enter, he hurriedly said, “Xu! Better just kill me straight away! What exactly do you want from me?”

Liao Dapao was also staring nervously at Xu Shaochen, eager to know what his own fate would be.

This was a huge loss—he earned the money, but didn’t even get a chance to spend it. Now he wasn’t sure if he would live or die.

Xu Shaochen smiled and spoke with a solemn tone, “Young man, don’t be so hot-headed. Why always talk about killing? I’m not nearly that vicious.”

Both Liao Dapao and Little Four exchanged doubtful looks—they had no idea what Xu Shaochen was up to.

“We live in a harmonious society nowadays. Why would I kill you? Not only will I not kill you, but I’m also going to send you abroad for further study!”

Xu Shaochen declared with firm resolve. It was a method he had learned from Chen Ju—simple and practical.

The Xu Corporation had mines in Africa, so he planned to send these two idiots to work in the mines—free labor, why not make use of it?

    “Further study abroad?”

Both Liao Dapao and Little Four were stunned when they heard this; they couldn’t make sense of it.

They had wanted to kill Xu Shaochen.

But now Xu Shaochen had captured them, and instead of killing them, he was arranging for their further education abroad?

This… this felt like something out of a fantasy novel.

    “That’s right—further study abroad.”

Xu Shaochen nodded, confirming once again that they had heard correctly: “I have always valued talent, and you two are precisely the kind of talent I appreciate.”

“So I really hope you won’t disappoint me. You’ll need to work extra hard.”

Mining, of course, requires quite a bit of effort.

“Yes, yes, Big Brother, rest assured! We definitely won’t let you down!” Liao Dapao was overjoyed. He had lived overseas before, and going abroad would surely be second nature to him.

With this in mind, Liao Dapao eagerly asked, “Big Brother, do you plan to send us to France or to Mg Country?”

“Neither.” Xu Shaochen shook his head, and smiling slightly, said, “Africa.”

After saying this, Xu Shaochen turned and left with his men.

Liao Dapao stood there for a good moment, not even able to react for a while: “Afri… Africa?”

A sudden sense of unease welled up in his heart.

But in the next instant, he brushed that thought aside.

Right now, he was at Xu Shaochen’s mercy.

If Xu Shaochen really wanted to harm him, wouldn’t it be far more straightforward to just kill him? Why go to such elaborate lengths?  So, maybe Xu Shaochen genuinely valued their talent and was sending them abroad for further education, so they could return later to serve him.

The more Liao Dapao thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. After all, he had always seen himself as an unappreciated genius.

Now, it looked like his fortunes had finally flipped—he had found his benefactor.

He wasn’t entirely wrong. Xu Shaochen did value their “money-making” potential, sending them to Africa to dig for his profit.

    ……………

    Nine o’clock in the evening.

Golden Sun Clubhouse, Private Room No. 3.

Lin Kai, Yang Hui, Yang Ming, and Li Qiancheng were all gathered there.

“Young Master Lin, I still don’t feel too confident. That assassin is so elusive; why would he suddenly want to meet us?”

Li Qiancheng was naturally paranoid. Sitting on the sofa with furrowed brows, he was visibly uneasy.

Lin Kai waved his hand dismissively, “Impossible. I met Shadow in person. Besides, he’s coming to meet me—it’s just that I called you all over as well.”

“Yeah, Young Master Li, I think you’re overthinking it. When you’re too concerned, you lose clarity.”

“Exactly. Shadow is meeting with Young Master Lin. He doesn’t even know we exist. How could there be any danger?”

Yang Hui and Yang Ming echoed Lin Kai’s sentiment, trying to ease Li Qiancheng’s doubts.

In their minds, Li Qiancheng’s courage was just too feeble. He was constantly suspicious, to the point where it bordered on paranoia.

    “Alright, maybe I’m overthinking.”

Li Qiancheng had initially intended to excuse himself and leave, but seeing the current situation, he couldn’t bring himself to say it out loud anymore.

    “Knock, knock, knock…”

Just then, a knock came at the door of the Private Room.

    “They’re here.”

Lin Kai grinned and stood up to open the door.

The moment he saw the person standing outside, the smile on his face froze, and his body went stiff.

“What? Don’t recognize your brother-in-law anymore?”

Xu Shaochen chuckled and gave Lin Kai’s face a light tap.

Lin Kai instantly broke into a cold sweat. His face turned ashen, and it felt as though a frigid shiver had gone from his feet to his head—his entire body frozen stiff as the blood drained from his body.

    “Young Master Lin, what’s wrong?”

Seeing Lin Kai rooted at the door, saying nothing, the others were curious.

“Nothing, just a family reunion. My bro-in-law is so excited to see me that he can’t even speak. Once he calms down, he’ll be fine.”

Xu Shaochen said casually, placing one arm over Lin Kai’s shoulder as he entered the room.

Long Yi and Long Er followed behind, closing the door.

“Xu Shaochen! How… how is it you?!”

Li Qiancheng, Yang Hui, and Yang Ming all jumped up from the sofa in shock when they saw Xu Shaochen, their faces filled with panic.

    “Who else would it be?”

“I heard my dear bro-in-law came to Jingcheng, so I figured I’d share a couple of drinks with him.”

Xu Shaochen said with a cheerful smile before turning to Lin Kai, “Honestly, how could you come without giving me a heads-up? What, did going abroad make you forget about your good ol’ brother-in-law?”

“B-brother-in-law, I just thought you were busy, so I didn’t want to bother you,” Lin Kai stammered, his heart sinking the moment he saw Xu Shaochen.

“That damn ace assassin! Got caught so easily! Damn it, I’m screwed.”

Xu Shaochen shook his head, sat down on the sofa, and poured himself a glass of wine: “You’ve gotten so distant.”

Then, he looked over at Yang Hui and the others: “Why are you all just standing there? Sit down, it’s not like this is our first time meeting. Surely, you haven’t forgotten me.”

“Xu Shaochen, what… what exactly do you want?”

Yang Hui gritted his teeth and asked.

Xu Shaochen looked confused, “What do you mean? I really don’t understand what you’re saying.”

“Stop pretending, Xu! You’ve been terribly lucky so far, but I don’t believe your luck will hold forever!”

    Yang Hui glared viciously.

Yang Ming and Li Qiancheng were trembling. “Big Brother, can you not court death right now? Don’t you realize what kind of situation we’re in? Where do you even get the nerve to threaten Xu Shaochen? Are you trying to drag us down with you?”

“You’re absolutely right. I know my luck can’t last forever.”

Xu Shaochen nodded in agreement, then set down his wine glass, raised his head, and swept his icy gaze over the three of them with a sinister smile:

“Which is why, while my luck is still holding up, I’ll make sure to eliminate all possible threats.”
