Chapter Index

Li Tianrun’s mind went completely blank.

He had gone through so much effort, but in the end, his son was dead. Grief suddenly overwhelmed him.

He deeply regretted everything. He had likely already guessed the reason why Li Qiancheng murdered Xu Shaochen. He regretted not telling Li Qiancheng about today’s events sooner.

If he had done so, such a heartbreaking incident wouldn’t have happened.

No! My son cannot just die like this!

“Young Master Xu, my son died a wrongful death. You must give me an explanation!”

Li Tianrun gritted his teeth as he spoke, his face streaming with tears.

“I was about to ask you for an explanation. Your son tried to kill me. Shouldn’t your Li family give me an explanation?”

Xu Shaochen replied coldly, his voice brimming with authority.

“Big Brother, you must stand up for Qiancheng. He’s your nephew!”

Li Tianrun cried, looking at Li Tianming in heart-wrenching despair.

Li Tianming looked at Xu Shaochen: “Xiao Xu, you said Li Qiancheng tried to kill you. Do you have any evidence?”

“Since Uncle Li asked, I don’t mind explaining everything.”

Xu Shaochen responded calmly, clapping his hands.

Long Yi entered the room holding a recording pen. After Xu Shaochen nodded, Long Yi pressed the play button.

    “My…my name is Lin Kai…”

Sure enough, it was Lin Kai’s voice, giving a detailed recounting of everything that had transpired.

After listening, everyone in the Li family fell silent.

“Oh right, those two assassins are still captured. If you don’t believe me, do you want to meet them?”

    Xu Shaochen spoke calmly.

Li Tianming turned to Li Tianrun: “Did you hear that?”

“Big Brother, Qiancheng is dead!” Li Tianrun gritted his teeth, as if he was about to crush them.

Li Tianming’s face turned cold: “He deserved it!”

If it weren’t for Li Qianya, Li Tianming inviting disaster into the Li family would have been inevitable. Xu Shaochen would have never let the family off so easily.

Li Tianrun’s face was alternating between green and pale, his fists clenched so tightly that his nails seemed to be digging into his palms.

He desperately wanted to kill Xu Shaochen to avenge Li Qiancheng, no matter the cost.

But he couldn’t. He still had a wife and two other children.

Even if he tried, leaving aside whether he would succeed,

if he managed it, his wife and children would face unprecedented retaliation.

He couldn’t sacrifice his remaining family over Li Qiancheng.

He had no choice but to endure.

“I’m not feeling well. I’m leaving.”

With those words, Li Tianrun walked away without looking back.

“Big Brother, we’ll also be leaving.”

The others quickly followed, seeing nothing more to be gained by staying.

Li Tianrun had taken every precaution, yet with Li Qiancheng dead, none of it mattered anymore.

“Xiao Xu, don’t take what just happened to heart. Li Qiancheng was a reckless fool. I never expected he’d have the audacity to try something like this!”

Li Tianming raged, worried that Xu Shaochen would hold a grudge against the Li family.

“Don’t worry, Uncle Li. I’m not that petty. Li Qiancheng’s actions don’t represent the whole Li family. I understand that much.”

Xu Shaochen smiled. Barring unforeseen developments, this matter was done.

While Li Qiancheng lived, he had been the front-runner for becoming the Li family heir.

Now that he was dead, he was nothing more than a corpse. As the fantasy novels often say, a dead genius is no longer a genius.

“That’s good, that’s good… Xiao Ya is in her room. Why don’t you go comfort her? She’s probably still mad at me.”

“Her room is on the second floor, first door on the left.”

Li Tianming sighed with a wry smile. Earlier, Li Tianrun’s pressure became too much for Li Qianya, and she had argued with them, after which Li Tianming scolded her and sent her upstairs.

“Don’t worry, Uncle Li. Xiao Ya is very understanding.”

Xu Shaochen nodded and headed upstairs.

He thought of how compliant Li Qianya had been earlier. She had changed her position just as he asked. Could she be any more understanding? Xu Shaochen reached the second floor and knocked on the door to her room.

    “Knock, knock, knock…”

There was no response from the room. Clearly, Li Qianya thought it was her father and was still sulking.

    “Open up. It’s me.”

    Xu Shaochen called out.

    “Click—”

After a moment, the door opened, and Li Qianya appeared.

“Where are they?” Li Qianya asked.

Xu Shaochen smiled, embraced her, and walked into the room, closing the door with his foot: “Of course I chased them away. They won’t dare act out again.”

“Don’t mess with me. I’m really angry right now! My dad just doesn’t appreciate anything I’ve done for him!”

Li Qianya broke free from Xu Shaochen’s embrace, escaping his mischievous hands, and huffed in frustration.

“You’re just confused due to concern. Have you even thought about it? If your dad couldn’t handle it, you being there would only make things worse.”

“Why didn’t you answer earlier when I knocked?”

Xu Shaochen moved closer again and pushed Li Qianya onto the bed.

“I thought it was my dad. Stop it! You’re so annoying. Let me go.”

    Li Qianya protested shyly.

Xu Shaochen smirked mischievously: “What, am I not your dad too? Didn’t you call me ‘daddy’ that night?”

“Go to hell! Don’t ever mention that again!”

Li Qianya flushed red with anger and embarrassment, pinching Xu Shaochen’s arm with her Nine Yin White Bone Claw.

“Alright, alright. I won’t mention it. How about you call me ‘daddy’ one more time?”

    Xu Shaochen teased as he…

Forty minutes later, the thunderous noise in the room finally subsided, leaving only the sound of gasping breaths.

    “You’re inhuman… Don’t expect to come back again…”

Li Qianya muttered weakly, her face still covered in sweat from the exertion.

    “Too late. I’m leaving now.”

Xu Shaochen glanced at his watch.

“I thought I hit something hard. Could you take off your watch next time?”

    Li Qianya complained.

    “Next time.”

Xu Shaochen said as he got dressed.

“It’s so late. Why not stay here and sleep?”

Li Qianya clung to him, her voice with a hint of playful cuteness.

“Old Master Chen passed away. I have to attend his memorial tomorrow. My clothes are at the hotel. I’ll go now. Be good.”

Xu Shaochen spoke softly. He was always gentle with women in bed, treating them with tenderness both in words and in actions.

“Alright… I’ll probably go tomorrow too.”

Li Qianya pouted a little and released Xu Shaochen, flopping back onto the bed.

Xu Shaochen finished dressing and left the room. When he reached the living room, he saw Li Tianming and his wife sitting stiffly on the sofa.

“Xiao Xu, finished already? You must be tired. Have a drink of water to calm down.”

    Li’s mother graciously offered.

    Xu Shaochen: “………….”

    Li Tianming: “………….”
