Chapter Index

Xu Shaochen had no idea what Su Tianwen was thinking.

If he did know, he would have completely disregarded it.

Because the reason he was helping the Chen Family had nothing to do with the 30% shares.

Just like Su Tianwen mentioned, the 30% shares were practically insignificant to him.

He was doing it because of his grandfather, who had left him a huge inheritance, and was an old acquaintance of Old Master Chen.

It was also because of his relationship with Chen Ju.

Otherwise, even 70% of the shares wouldn’t have convinced him.

So Su Tianwen’s thoughts and actions were simply suicidal.

After a busy day, he didn’t get to have lunch until 2 PM.

During the meal, the members of the Chen Family were especially warm and polite to Xu Shaochen.

After all, they had just witnessed his strength. The intimidating Su Tianwen didn’t dare utter a word and left in shame.

Especially the younger generation, who were blatantly flattering him, so much that it made him feel a bit disgusted.

Because their flattery was utterly lacking in skill – it was crude, unbearably tacky.

Sigh, suddenly I miss Mei Liangxin. His flattery was a pleasure to hear—rich, yet not cloying, fresh and sophisticated, with just the right touch.

When he flattered someone, it left a lasting impression.

    ………

After three days of hustle, Old Master Chen’s funeral finally came to an end.

During these days, because of Xu Shaochen supporting them, the younger members of the Chen Family walked with more confidence and spoke with authority. In simple terms, they were acting a bit too proud.

Chen Ju was worried that if this continued, it could lead to some trouble.

And his worry proved accurate. The trouble came on the very night the funeral ended.

Chen Ju and Xu Shaochen were having a late-night meal when Chen Ju suddenly received a call from one of his cousins.

“Brother! Help us! Someone’s going to cut our hands off!”

As soon as the call connected, a panicked voice with sobs came through, mixed with chaotic background noise.

“What’s going on? Where are you now?” Chen Ju’s expression changed.

“You must be the Big Brother of these boys, aren’t you? Let me tell you where they are. We’re at the Black Phoenix Bar on Yangliu Street. Bring 5 million with you. If you don’t bring the money, not only will they not walk out, but you might not either.”

An unfamiliar and arrogant voice came through. Clearly, someone had grabbed the phone.

“How dare you! Who are you…” Beep~ beep~

Before Chen Ju could finish, the call was already cut off.

Hearing the busy tone from the phone, Chen Ju was furious, “Damn, they’re looking for trouble.”

“Alright, let’s go handle this. If it turns out that Chen Family’s people really get their hands chopped off by some punks, it’d be a huge joke.”

Xu Shaochen calmly said this without any concern.

Chen Ju shook his head, “Xu Shao, these aren’t just street punks. Anyone daring to extort me definitely has some backing.”

He paused, then continued, “Besides, I’m afraid 5 million is just the start. They might want more.”

Xu Shaochen was initially surprised, but after thinking about it, he realized the truth.

When Chen Ju’s cousins were caught, they probably revealed their identity.

Yet, the other party wasn’t scared at all; instead, they boldly called to demand ransom. This was indeed beyond what ordinary punks would do.

“Fine, let’s check out this supposed big-time thug.”

Big or small-time thugs made no difference to Xu Shaochen.

To him, they were all just petty criminals, loser thugs that he could easily crush with a single slap.

People like Chen Dongqiu, on the other hand, were the real players, walking around with the respectable title of ‘entrepreneur,’ son of the Chen Family, even one of Yunzhou’s Top Ten Youth. Who would’ve thought he was secretly a smuggling kingpin?

“I’ll have someone send the 5 million. Let’s satisfy their appetite first.”

Walking out of the restaurant, Chen Ju said this as he pulled out his phone.

“No need. I’ll cover the 5 million for you.” Xu Shaochen pushed his phone down and said to Long Yi, “Go buy 5 million in hell money.”

    Chen Ju: “…”

Half an hour later, the two arrived at Black Phoenix Bar.

Behind them were four others—Long Yi, Long Er, and two of Chen Ju’s bodyguards.

At the entrance, a hooligan with green-dyed hair sauntered up and said lazily, “You must be Young Master Chen. Come on, our boss is expecting you.”

After speaking, the hooligan casually turned his back to the two, swaggering step by step into the bar.

Xu Shaochen and Chen Ju exchanged glances.

Even a small-time thug dared to be this arrogant. If he wasn’t ignorant to the real world, he must have solid backing.

Judging by how he dared to extort money over the phone, it was likely the latter.

But where did his confidence come from? Xu Shaochen and Chen Ju had discussed this earlier on the way.

Chen Ju mentioned that he hadn’t heard of any major players operating out of Yangliu Street. How did this big shot suddenly spring up?

As they entered the bar, it was already emptied of customers.

Three young men with bloody faces were trembling on the ground. Shards of glass bottles littered the surroundings.

A middle-aged man with a scar at the corner of his eye sat dominantly on the sofa, smoking a cigarette. In his arms was a pale-faced young woman, her tearful eyes brimming with fear, though she didn’t dare make a sound.

Surrounding them were more than twenty other thugs.

“Boss, Young Master Chen is here.”

The green-haired thug respectfully reported to the scarred man on the sofa.

“Hahaha! Young Master Chen, what an honor to have you visit my humble Black Phoenix Bar! Forgive me for not welcoming you properly.”

The scarred man burst into laughter, but he didn’t bother to stand up. He simply continued to smoke, relaxing on the sofa.

    “Big Brother…save us please…”

On the ground, the three young men from the Chen Family looked at Chen Ju with tear-filled eyes, pitiful and miserable.

    “I expect an explanation.”

Glancing over at the three on the ground, Chen Ju stared coldly at the scarred man on the sofa.

“An explanation? That’s simple.” The scarred man chuckled dismissively and casually replied, “Your three little brothers tried to take one of my girls with them. Tell me, shouldn’t they get a beating?”

“Nonsense! Xiaoyu is still a student! You coerced and forced her to work here! This is a crime!”

As soon as Chen Ju and Xu Shaochen arrived, the three youths on the floor regained their courage and angrily retorted.

Hearing this, Xu Shaochen and Chen Ju finally understood.

It turned out these three hot-headed youths had run headfirst into the filth of society, trying to play the hero but ended up getting beaten instead.
