Chapter Index

    “What is this place?”

After more than 40 minutes, Xu Shaochen looked at the several-meter-high gate and asked.

    “Home.”

    Jenny’s tone was brief.

“I thought you were taking me to a hotel,” Xu Shaochen said as the manor’s gate opened.

He felt that even the White Palace might not compare to the grandeur of this manor.

As they entered through the gate, there was a road in the middle, flanked by vast lawns. Small paths paved with cobblestones crisscrossed the lawns, and bodyguards in suits wearing earpieces were patrolling the area.

At the end of the lawn stood a large villa, with an open space in front, and a massive fountain occupying the center.

“I brought you to Mg Country, and you think I’d have you stay in a hotel instead of at home?”

Jenny tilted her head and questioned Xu Shaochen.

    “My friends…”

“Other than family, I don’t particularly like having strangers stay at home.” Jenny smiled as she interrupted Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen shrugged, “OK, I didn’t say anything.”

“However, if you insist, I wouldn’t refuse. After all, there are a few empty bedrooms in the house.” Jenny added.

Xu Shaochen shook his head, “No, let’s just let them stay at the hotel for now.”

Since Jenny didn’t like strangers staying in her home, it would be better to wait until they got to know each other, rather than making her uncomfortable.

“Let’s go, I’ll show you my father’s room.”

Jenny said as she walked into the manor, with Xu Shaochen following behind her.

    “Good day, Miss.”

    “Welcome home, Miss.”

Along the way, bodyguards and servants greeted Jenny one after another, showing great respect.

Xu Shaochen estimated that from the gate to the entrance of the villa’s living room, he’d already seen over forty bodyguards.

A rough estimate would bring the total number of armed bodyguards in the manor to at least 100.

Including the servants, there were about 200 people in the manor.

All 200 of them, in the past, had served only Jenny.

Xu Shaochen started to appreciate the corrupt, capitalist lifestyle abroad.

Entering the living room of the villa, the first impression was size, followed closely by elegance.

The living room stood seven or eight meters high. The walls were adorned with precious ancient paintings, and many antiques from China were displayed. Eighty percent of the decor and furnishings were in traditional Chinese style.

Following Jenny upstairs, they finally arrived at a room at the end of the second floor.

Jenny opened the door and led Xu Shaochen inside, saying, “This was my father’s room. Everything has been kept as it was. I come in every week to clean it myself.”

Xu Shaochen examined the bedroom. The decor was very simple, even to the point of being plain.

Apart from the bed, desk, and wardrobe, there was nothing fancy or unnecessary in the room.

    One photo caught his attention.

It was of an elderly man, his hair completely white. He wasn’t tall but had a warm smile on his face. Yet his eyes were incredibly sharp.

Reflecting on some old photos he’d seen from his childhood, he could vaguely connect this old man with them.

This was his grandfather, whom he’d never met.

    “Let’s go.”

After a while, Xu Shaochen turned and walked out of the room. “Where is grandfather’s grave? I want to pay my respects someday.”

“Father’s urn has been stored at the funeral home as per his medical instructions. He wanted to be buried in the land of China, and to be taken home by his descendants.”

As she said this, Jenny looked at Xu Shaochen with a somewhat complex expression, as if feeling jealous of him.

Although she’d always treated the Old Master as her father, in truth, they shared no blood ties. So she had no right or qualification to take the Old Master’s ashes back to China.

All of this, of course, was for Xu Shaochen, his designated heir, to complete.

Xu Shaochen smiled and said, “We Chinese believe in returning to our roots. In life, it may not matter, but after death, no one wants to be buried in a foreign land.”

“I know. I was raised by a Chinese person,” Jenny responded, rolling her eyes. Her upbringing and education had always been influenced strongly by Chinese culture.

Then, she suddenly thought of something and said, “Oh right, Father left something for you. But it’s in the custody of a lawyer. I’ll take you to see the lawyer another day.”

“Oh? What could it be?” Xu Shaochen was taken aback, curious about what his grandfather had left behind that couldn’t be handed over by Jenny and had to be kept by a lawyer.

Jenny pursed her lips, “How would I know? Even the lawyer doesn’t know. It’s something only you’re entitled to know about.”

As they continued chatting, they went downstairs and sat on the sofa.

Jenny asked a servant to bring them two cups of tea along with some pastries.

She sat very gracefully, with her upper body straight and her eyes casting a sideways glance. But this posture, combined with her exotic facial features, appeared somewhat peculiar.

“Now it’s time to discuss business.”

Jenny took a sip of her tea before setting the cup down and looking directly at Xu Shaochen.

    “Go ahead.”

Xu Shaochen nodded, signaling that he was listening.

“I’ve arranged your schedule for you.”

“Tomorrow, you’ll go to the company and meet with the shareholders and top management. At the very least, they need to see who the real boss is.”

“The day after tomorrow, I’ve arranged for you to meet the heirs of the Nick, Karen, and Johnson families for a round of golf.”

Xu Shaochen interrupted Jenny, saying, “Aren’t those the three families that have been pressuring the Xu Corporation, itching to make a move, and always eyeing it like hungry wolves?”

“That’s right,” Jenny nodded and further explained, “These three families control over 50% of Mg Country’s oligarch capital and 80% of its discourse power.”

“Why not 80% of the wealth?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Jenny smiled proudly, as if she was personally honored by the fact, “Because Xu Corporation controls the remaining 30%, and the remaining 20% is held by other Mg Country entrepreneurs and regular citizens.”

The combined wealth of these three families was more than the Xu Corporation, but why did they dare reveal their fangs toward Xu Corporation?

The key was that they held 80% of the discourse power, making them the largest oligarchs in Mg Country, similar to the Tresin Group in Stick Nation.

“Think they’ll try to intimidate me?” Xu Shaochen joked.

Jenny blinked playfully, “Maybe somebody will give you a hard time.”

“They better not. I don’t like that sort of thing, because once I get irritated, I tend to smash the horse to death.”

Xu Shaochen smiled serenely, taking a sip of tea, and spoke casually.

Jenny shrugged, “In this aspect, you’re just like your father. No matter the outcome, you’re both equally arrogant.”

“It’s called confidence. The confidence of the Xu family’s men.”

    Xu Shaochen corrected Jenny’s mistake.
