Chapter Index

“Do you have anything else to say? If not, you can sit down.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Peter and said calmly.

Although Peter was unwilling, at this point, there was no turning back, so he could only sit back in his seat.

    “Everyone, I believe…”

Immediately after, Xu Shaochen began his lengthy speech. For details, please refer to the typical school principal’s speech during assemblies.

Finally, the meeting ended in a pleasant atmosphere.

At least Xu Shaochen felt pleasant.

“Let’s have a drink together when there’s time,” Barron invited Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen nodded, “I’d be delighted, Mr. Barron. Have you found any results from studying that jade?”

“I have some clues.” Barron was evasive and didn’t want to talk further, checking the time, “I have something I need to attend to, so I’ll be leaving first.”

Before Xu Shaochen could respond, Barron turned and quickly walked away.

Xu Shaochen stood there a little dumbfounded. Damn, even after giving you a fake, you still managed to find something.

If I gave you the real one, what would you find? He couldn’t help but think of that scene from ‘The Return of the Condor Heroes,’ where Ouyang Feng went crazy from practicing the Nine Yin Manual.

Peter and his grandson Peter Jr. passed by Xu Shaochen, coldly glancing at him.

Xu Shaochen responded with a bright smile.

He felt that he was being far too kind.

The world treats him with indifference, but he still responds with kindness and tolerance.

“Grandpa, I can’t stand his arrogance any longer,” Peter Jr. said through gritted teeth. He had always thought that he would be the next chairman of Xu Corporation because his grandfather told him so.

So naturally, he harbored a deep hostility toward Xu Shaochen and found everything about him unappealing.

Xu Shaochen’s grandfather had set a rule that all employees of Xu Corporation must be able to speak Mandarin.

Therefore, in the company, everyone communicated in Mandarin for daily exchanges.

Peter Jr. and his grandfather were no exception.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let him get his way. It’s all that damned Barron’s fault!”

A cold glint flashed in Peter’s eyes. It’s no longer possible to seize control of Xu Corporation from within.

Since that’s the case, I’ll just have to think of other ways from the outside to get more benefits for myself.

    ………………

At noon, Xu Shaochen borrowed Jenny’s car and invited Xie Wei and Li Qianya for lunch.

The location was booked by Li Qianya, at a famous restaurant frequently mentioned on domestic forums.

Xu Shaochen drove to the restaurant.

In the parking lot of the restaurant, Xu Shaochen ran into an old acquaintance.

An old acquaintance he hadn’t seen in a long time.

    “Li Anjie.”

Xu Shaochen shouted at a young man in a suit nearby.

“You’re… Xu Shaochen? Weren’t you supposed to be in university? How did you end up abroad? Are you working as a driver now?”

The young man looked at Xu Shaochen for a moment before recognizing him. Then he looked at the Rolls-Royce nearby and, after glancing at Xu Shaochen’s formal attire, assumed he was working as a driver.

After all, these days, luxury cars like Rolls-Royces always come with dedicated drivers. There’s no way the boss would be driving himself.

Plus, since Xu Shaochen was dressed so formally, Li Anjie naturally thought he was working as a chauffeur for some boss.

Xu Shaochen didn’t explain, instead pulling out a cigarette and offering it to him, “Enough about me. Tell me about yourself. You went abroad right after high school. How’s everything going now?”

They were high school classmates. Back then, for kids from small cities like them, going abroad was a big deal. It was believed that you could make a lot of money overseas.

Li Anjie was one of them. Since his English was decent, and he didn’t get into his desired university after high school, he directly went to Mg Country to seek opportunities.

Their relationship in school wasn’t exactly great, but meeting an old acquaintance in a foreign land, Xu Shaochen didn’t care much about the past.

Upon hearing this, Li Anjie’s expression became a bit unnatural, but he quickly concealed it and said lightly:

“It’s alright. After all, I’ve been here for several years now and have made some achievements, doing slightly better than you being a driver. I recently quit my job and am getting ready to apply for a position at Xu Corporation.”

Driven by a shameful sense of inferiority, he didn’t want Xu Shaochen to think he wasn’t doing well.

In reality, he hadn’t been doing well at all. He had just been fired and was preparing to take a chance at Xu Corporation in the afternoon.

If he could get the job, his fortunes would change overnight.

He then looked at Xu Shaochen with a dismissive expression, “Didn’t you have good grades? How did you end up being a driver? Driving for wealthy people must pay well, but it’s not very respectable, is it?”

Xu Shaochen chuckled and didn’t expose his lie, nor did he take his boastful words to heart. Glancing at his watch, he pulled out his phone and said:

“Well, I wish you the best with your interview. Let’s exchange contact info; we should grab a meal sometime. I have an appointment now, so let’s catch up later.”

    “Alright, see you later.”

After exchanging contact information with Xu Shaochen, Li Anjie walked away, head held high.

Watching him leave, Xu Shaochen noticed the wrinkles on his suit and shook his head, pulling his phone out to call Jenny.

“Jenny, check if the HR department has received a resume from a guy named Li Anjie. If they have, give him a position.”

Although they weren’t close back in school and despite Li Anjie’s recent attitude, in the end, they were still classmates, and if he had the ability to help, he would.

After all, even though China had become prosperous and strong in these recent years, it was still tough for a Chinese person to make it abroad.

If he could offer a helping hand to a fellow countryman, he would do so.

After making the call, Xu Shaochen headed toward the restaurant.

    “Shaochen!”

As soon as he entered the restaurant, he heard a familiar voice.

Looking in the direction of the voice, Xu Shaochen saw Li Qianya excitedly waving at him from a corner.

Sun Hai, Tang Silin, Chen Dongqiu, Xie Wei, Long Yi, and Long Er were all there.

Xu Shaochen smiled and quickly walked over.

“Sorry for keeping you waiting, guys. I ran into an old acquaintance in the parking lot and chatted for a bit.”

Xu Shaochen apologized first, then sat down between Xie Wei and Li Qianya and picked up a menu, “Have you ordered yet?”

“We did. You can take a look and order if you want something specific,” Xie Wei replied.

Xu Shaochen put down the menu, “You’ve already ordered, so I’ll pass on ordering.”

While waiting for the food, the group started chatting.

“Young Master Xu, about my issue… That bastard contacted me again today.”

Chen Dongqiu looked at Xu Shaochen with an apologetic expression.

Xu Shaochen furrowed his brows and, after thinking for a moment, said: “Tomorrow afternoon. I’ll see if I have some time and will go with you.”

Originally, he had planned to delay this matter, but it seemed that wasn’t going to happen.
