Chapter 828: You’re Telling Me to Get Out?
by xennovelNighttime.
Xu Shaochen attended Li Anjie’s dinner invitation.
Li Anjie had booked the restaurant at a five-star hotel. It was obvious that he must have spent a fortune.
This meal alone would cost at least two or three thousand USDs, which, converted to yuan, was about ten to twenty thousand.
Of course, Li Anjie wasn’t spending all this money just to treat Xu Shaochen. The main goal was to butter up that interviewer.
As for Xu Shaochen, tonight, he was simply there to serve as a comparison and to let Li Anjie flaunt.
When Xu Shaochen arrived at the private room Li Anjie had booked, he was the only one there. The interviewer had yet to arrive.
“Shaochen, you’re here! Come in, sit, don’t be shy.”
Li Anjie beamed with confidence as he put down his phone, inviting Xu Shaochen to take a seat, his eyes full of enthusiasm.
“Doesn’t this place seem a bit too expensive? I don’t think it’s necessary.”
Xu Shaochen casually closed the door behind him, walked over, and sat down, his eyes scanning the room’s layout and décor.
Hearing this, Li Anjie simply smiled, unconcerned, and said nonchalantly, “Expensive? Not really, just something adequate. Overall, it’s pretty average. It won’t break the bank. These are the kinds of places I’ve been going to abroad for years. I’m used to it.”
After saying that, he paused for a moment, then adopted a slightly lecturing tone: “And Shaochen, I should remind you, life in society is different from studying. It’s not enough to just excel in school; you also need to know how to interact with people.”
“The interviewer I invited tonight is reportedly a Vice President of the Xu Corporation’s HR department. You can’t take someone like that to some random street restaurant.”
As he said this, his face bore a smug, proud expression. Getting someone like an HR Vice President from the Xu Corporation to accept his invitation was certainly a big deal.
Xu Shaochen smiled, “Is that so? I didn’t realize there was so much involved. And to be able to invite an HR Vice President, that’s impressive.”
Most likely, the Vice President had agreed to attend out of respect for Xu Shaochen’s status. Otherwise, someone with so many social obligations wouldn’t waste time on someone as insignificant as Li Anjie.
However, watching Li Anjie immersed in showing off, Xu Shaochen found it quite amusing, almost like how he had felt watching circus performances as a child.
“Hahaha, just so-so. It might be that they appreciate my talents. When I hit it big in the future, I’ll be sure to help you out.”
Li Anjie laughed heartily and slapped Xu Shaochen on the shoulder, his expression carrying a hint of superiority.
“Click—”
At that moment, the door to the private room opened, and a young man carrying a bag walked in.
Both Xu Shaochen and Li Anjie turned to look at the young man.
“Excuse me, is one of you Mr. Li Anjie?”
The young man’s gaze shifted between the two.
Li Anjie took two steps forward: “That’s me. And you are…?”
“Oh, I’m Secretary Wu, working for Mr. Chen. Mr. Chen ran into an acquaintance downstairs and is chatting for a while. He’ll be up shortly and asked me to inform you.”
The young man, eyes calm, addressed Li Anjie.
Li Anjie immediately adopted a fawning smile, quickly stepping forward to shake hands: “Ah, Secretary Wu! No need for you to trouble yourself. Please, have a seat!”
At this moment, he was a completely different person compared to how he had been with Xu Shaochen, fawning and ingratiating in every way.
Secretary Wu briefly shook Li Anjie’s hand with a look of arrogance, then walked toward the table. When he saw Xu Shaochen sitting in one of the chairs, he frowned and looked back at Li Anjie in annoyance: “How did you arrange this? Don’t you know Mr. Chen has strict rules at the dining table? How could you let someone else sit in the main seat?”
Seventy percent of the employees and management at Xu Corporation were from China.
“Oh my, I’m terribly sorry. Please calm down, Secretary Wu. I wasn’t aware and made an error. I’ll fix it immediately.”
Li Anjie jumped in fright, immediately apologizing profusely. Then he turned around and glared at Xu Shaochen, huffing: “What are you waiting for? Didn’t you hear Secretary Wu? Get up! That’s not your place to sit!”
Xu Shaochen was stunned. Seriously? People are this shallow?
“Xu Shaochen, don’t you have any sense? Get up and get out of that seat!”
Seeing that Xu Shaochen hadn’t moved, Li Anjie was starting to lose his patience, thinking this guy was way too clueless. It was no wonder he was only working as a driver.
Meanwhile, look at himself: He’d passed the interview at Xu Corporation, caught the eye of higher-ups, and clearly had a bright future ahead.
Clearly, he’d have to distance himself from Xu Shaochen in the future. He didn’t want this inept guy dragging him down and ruining his prospects.
They wouldn’t belong to the same world anymore. He needed to associate with the elite, while interacting with someone like Xu Shaochen would only bring down his status.
What’s the point of being a straight-A student? He still can’t beat me at life.
With that thought, the way he looked at Xu Shaochen shifted, his eyes now evaluating with a touch of disdain.
Xu Shaochen frowned slightly but, in the end, said nothing and moved over to another seat.
“Hmph! What kind of people have you brought? No sense of decorum at all. It’s a good thing I got here first. Otherwise, Mr. Chen would have really given you a hard time.”
Secretary Wu snorted coldly, giving Xu Shaochen a disdainful look, then pointed at Li Anjie’s forehead as he spoke.
Li Anjie nodded repeatedly, bowing and scraping: “Yes, yes, Secretary Wu is right. It’s all thanks to you, Secretary Wu. If it weren’t for you, I’d be in big trouble. Thank you, thank you.”
“Good that you know.” Secretary Wu said this with indifference, then pointed at Xu Shaochen, ordering arrogantly: “You, move over again. I need to sit on Mr. Chen’s right-hand side so I can pour him drinks later.”
There was no way he’d let someone else perform such a flattering task.
Xu Shaochen’s expression turned cold as he ignored Secretary Wu outright. He had come here to eat, not to be mistreated.
Messing with him again and again? Did they really think he didn’t have a temper?
“Bang bang bang!”
“Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear me? Get out of that seat immediately! You have no business sitting there!”
Secretary Wu was instantly enraged when Xu Shaochen dared to ignore him. He slammed his hand hard on the table, shouting loudly at Xu Shaochen.
“You’re telling me to get out?”
Xu Shaochen’s cold eyes locked onto Secretary Wu. He was currently fighting the urge to kick this secretary out of Xu Corporation.
Secretary Wu snorted and turned his attention away from Xu Shaochen, then looked at Li Anjie, ordering: “I don’t want to see him around here. He ruins my appetite. Understand?”
“Understood, understood.” Li Anjie didn’t hesitate to nod, turning to Xu Shaochen, and in a lukewarm tone, said:
“Xu Shaochen, you heard what was just said. Don’t make things difficult for me. You should leave now.”
