Chapter Index

    For Li Anjie.

The reason he called Xu Shaochen tonight, aside from wanting him to drink and liven things up.

Was mainly to show off in front of Xu Shaochen, to find a sense of superiority and accomplishment.

Now that Xu Shaochen, not knowing his place, had angered Secretary Wu, Li Anjie naturally distanced himself without hesitation.

After all, compared to Xu Shaochen, Secretary Wu could offer him more help in the future.

Xu Shaochen stood up, looking at Li Anjie with a mocking expression: “To meet an old friend in a strange place, we were classmates for three years in high school too. Li Anjie, you’re something else.”

He didn’t expect that when he tried to lend an old classmate a hand, he would help a traitor. No doubt, Li Anjie’s actions disappointed him.

“Xu Shaochen, what’s wrong with me? What did I do wrong? Don’t give me that classmate talk. I’m giving you a free lesson today: This is society!” Li Anjie scoffed, waving his hand impatiently: “Alright, let’s cut the nonsense. Get lost, go find somewhere else to cool off. If you mess up my drinking session with Mr. Chen later, don’t blame me for being rude.”

To an old classmate who couldn’t offer him any help, Li Anjie didn’t care at all.

Besides, he didn’t feel like he had done anything wrong.

    “Fine, you’re something else.”

Xu Shaochen smiled, patted his shoulder, then walked out of the private room.

He originally thought Li Anjie just had some pride and vanity. Now it seemed he had a character issue. No wonder he wasn’t doing well.

People like this, the Xu Corporation doesn’t need.

After all, the Xu Corporation isn’t a garbage dump, and Xu Shaochen isn’t here to pick up trash.

“Kid, watch yourself in the future. Be careful how you talk. Don’t be clueless like today and end up humiliating yourself. Got it?”

Secretary Wu put down his bag, lit a cigarette, blew smoke at Xu Shaochen, and looked at him with a mocking smirk.

    “Smack!”

Xu Shaochen casually swatted the cigarette out of his hand and chuckled: “I’ll return those words to you: Watch yourself in the future. Be careful with your words. Don’t be as clueless as you were today, or you might end up losing your job. Got it?”

Secretary Wu froze for a moment, then burst out laughing as if he had just heard a ridiculous joke.

“Hahaha… This is killing me. Hahaha——”

After laughing for a while, he calmed down and poked Xu Shaochen’s chest: “What did you just say? Me? Lose my job? Let me tell you, my position is rock solid. In the next ten or eight years, there’s no way I’ll lose it. Sorry to disappoint you.”

After speaking, he sneered and disdainfully remarked to Li Anjie: “Damn, hearing this guy talk, I almost thought he was the chairman of the Xu Corporation.”

“Secretary Wu, you don’t know. Back when we were in school, he was always pretending to be something. In truth, all he’s good for is burying his head in books. Besides that, he’s got no skills. Now, he’s just working as a driver.”

To please Secretary Wu, Li Anjie belittled Xu Shaochen as much as he could.

Secretary Wu smiled after hearing this, giving Xu Shaochen a mocking look: “Is that so? A driver, huh? How about this: I’ll give you a chance. Come be my driver. I’ll pay you three times your current salary.”

As he said this, he spit on the ground and sneered: “What do you think? Tempted? If you are, lick this spit clean, and I’ll give you a better job.”

“Xu Shaochen, why are you standing there? Hurry up and get down there and lick it clean. This is an opportunity Secretary Wu is giving you. Aren’t you going to grab it?” Li Anjie chimed in, gloating and continuing to flatter Secretary Wu.

    “You’re really something else.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Secretary Wu and seriously said, his gaze getting colder.

Secretary Wu spread his hands and smiled smugly: “I’m just average, but still better than a driver like you. So, I can look down on you.”

He then looked at Li Anjie beside him, asking: “Am I right?”

“Yes, yes, yes, Secretary Wu is absolutely right.” Li Anjie nodded like a pecking chicken, looking at Xu Shaochen with an arrogant expression: “You should consider yourself lucky. Normally, Secretary Wu wouldn’t even bother giving someone like you a second glance.”

“Hahahaha, well said, an ant. He’s nothing but a worthless ant in my eyes.”

Secretary Wu laughed heartily and didn’t take Xu Shaochen seriously at all.

Seeing Secretary Wu laugh, Li Anjie laughed too, inwardly rejoicing. It seemed his flattery was right on point. He might as well mock Xu Shaochen a bit more.

Xu Shaochen, oh Xu Shaochen, it’s your honor to be useful to me one last time.

Screw that old school friendship. No way do I want a poor loser like you as a classmate.

    “Click–”

At that moment, the door of the private room was pushed open again, and a middle-aged man in a well-tailored suit appeared at the entrance.

The moment they saw this middle-aged man, both Secretary Wu and Li Anjie’s faces changed drastically. They quickly stepped forward to greet him.

“Mr. Chen, you’re here. Please, come in.”

“Mr. Chen, have a seat right here.”

The two of them acted like eunuchs before an emperor, nearly groveling at Mr. Chen’s feet.

    “Who is he?”

Mr. Chen looked at the back of Xu Shaochen suspiciously. This back seemed familiar, but he couldn’t place where he had seen it before.

“Him? Just some clueless kid who doesn’t know his place. Don’t worry, Mr. Chen. I’ll take care of him right away.”

Li Anjie volunteered immediately and then scolded Xu Shaochen: “Why are you still standing here? Get out! Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Do you think you belong here with us?”

Xu Shaochen turned around, looked at Mr. Chen, and said calmly: “Your secretary is quite impressive. Where’d you find him? Introduce me, please.”

Boom! In the instant Xu Shaochen turned around, Mr. Chen was struck as if hit by lightning, freezing in place. His mind went completely blank.

No wonder that back looked so familiar. It turned out to be Xu Shaochen, the head of the Xu Corporation, his boss.

“How dare you! Who do you think you are, talking to Mr. Chen like that? I’ll give you one more chance to rephrase and apologize!”

Seeing Mr. Chen staring at Xu Shaochen intently, Secretary Wu thought he was angry. Seizing the moment, he jumped out and arrogantly scolded Xu Shaochen.

After finishing, he nodded and bowed, glancing at Mr. Chen with a face full of expectation as if waiting to be praised: “Mr. Chen, people like him have no shame and don’t know their place. We should kick him out.”
