Chapter Index

    Headquarters of the Xu Corporation.

Xu Shaochen easily entered the company using the pass Jenny gave him.

Don’t ask why he needs a pass.

That’s because he’s only appeared in front of upper management. The regular employees and lower-level managers don’t know who he is.

He got on the elevator and headed to the top floor, making his way to Jenny’s office.

Outside Jenny’s office, several people were standing around, both young and middle-aged, arms full of documents.

All of them were waiting to report to Jenny, each hoping to catch her eye and rise up the ranks, dreaming of promotions, raises, and marrying rich and beautiful women.

Xu Shaochen shook his head and quickened his pace.

“Hey, hey, hey! What do you think you’re doing? Don’t cut in line! We’ve been waiting here a long time!”

Suddenly, a young man blocked Xu Shaochen’s way, speaking with a face full of displeasure.

The young man looked to be about twenty-five or six, with fair skin, a handsome appearance, and dressed in an elegant black suit.

In the circle of wealthy women, guys like him are in high demand.

Everyone else simply stood by, watching. No one chimed in to support the young man’s scolding of Xu Shaochen, nor did anyone speak up for Xu Shaochen.

After all, everyone was well aware that this young man’s uncle was a manager. He constantly boasted about his connections, so no one wanted to mess with him. “Sorry, I’m not here to report.”

Xu Shaochen smiled slightly at the young man, but his brow furrowed as he caught a whiff of the young man’s cologne.

He really didn’t like the scent of that cologne.

When picking a cologne, these people were only thinking about what they liked. Don’t they know it’s meant for others to smell?

“I don’t care what you’re here for, you still have to wait in line. I’m next, so don’t even think about taking my spot!”

The young man held hostility toward Xu Shaochen. Xu’s appearance made him feel threatened, especially since Xu was the only one there who could match his own looks.

“I know your President Jenny. I’m here to see her.”

Sensing the young man’s deliberate antagonism, Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity. Come on, it’s not like he relied on his looks to get by.

“Ha! As if you know her better than any of us. Stop wasting my time and get back in line!”

The young man sneered, pointing to the back of the crowd with disdain.

    “Click—”

At that moment, the office door opened, and a middle-aged man who had just finished his report came out.

The young man who had been berating Xu adjusted his collar and was about to step in, but Xu swiftly beat him to it, entering the office first.

The young man froze for a moment, then exploded in rage, quickly chasing after him.

“Hey! What do you think you’re doing? Stop right there!”

He was livid, practically fuming with anger. This guy had the nerve to cut in line? Unbelievable!

“What’s going on here? How inappropriate!”

Jenny raised an eyebrow and scolded sharply.

The young man stood frozen in place. Cold sweat instantly dripped down his back, and he felt a chill in his limbs.

Damn it! He had just made a fool of himself in front of President Jenny. Now she would definitely think poorly of him.

No! This can’t happen! I haven’t been promoted or gotten a raise yet, let alone married a rich and beautiful woman!

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Xu Shaochen casually surveying the luxurious office. With a sneer, he thought, ‘What a country bumpkin. This must be his first time seeing such a fancy office.’

Suddenly, his eyes lit up. An idea to shift the blame popped into his head.

Maybe I can even earn some points with Jenny.

“President, this guy barged into your office despite my warnings. I was worried he might harm you, so I rushed in to stop him.”

The young man pointed at Xu Shaochen, speaking righteously to Jenny. He shifted all the blame onto Xu, even framing himself as the hero.

Xu Shaochen frowned at this. Initially, he hadn’t intended to pursue the matter. After all, the young man hadn’t known his identity, so his earlier actions were understandable.

But now, seeing him resort to slander, Xu found the young man’s character deeply lacking.

“Oh? Is that so? What’s your side of the story?”

Jenny playfully looked at Xu Shaochen, a hint of amusement in her eyes as she twirled a sleek pen in her delicate hand.

She had been managing positions at the Xu Corporation ever since she graduated university. Now, as the president, she had seen her fair share of all kinds of people and heard countless lies and truths.

She easily saw through the young man’s attempt to shirk responsibility.

“Me?” Xu Shaochen chuckled and nodded. “Yeah, he’s right. I came in here with bad intentions. So, little miss, are you scared?”

“How dare you speak to the president like that! That’s outrageous!” The young man leaped out, pointing an accusing finger at Xu Shaochen. Then, he turned to Jenny. “President! A person with such horrible manners should be fired on the spot!”

As long as Xu was fired, no one would know he had attempted to deflect the blame.

That way, he’d still be the handsome, well-connected young man admired by so many women in the company.

What he didn’t know was that Jenny didn’t care about him. She hadn’t even bothered to remember his name.

Jenny nodded with a smile and said, “If you think firing him is the solution, then let’s go ahead and fire him. I respect your opinion.”

The young man froze the moment he heard those words, utterly shocked like someone had hit him over the head with a massive stroke of luck.

President Jenny just smiled at me?

And she did it so gently.

And she said… she respects my opinion?

The young man’s heart raced. His face flushed with excitement. As the saying goes, heaven never disappoints those who persevere.

After weeks of consistently reporting, his efforts were finally about to pay off.

“Go to accounting in a bit to settle your wages, pack your things, and leave before the end of the day.”

Jenny said to the young man with a calm, measured tone.

The young man blinked. “P-President, what do you mean?”

Almost immediately, a thought crossed his mind. Could the president be offering to take care of me?

“You said someone should be fired, right? Well, that someone is you.” Jenny smiled and replied.

Boom! The young man felt as if he’d just been struck by lightning. In that moment, he realized Jenny had meant he was the one being fired.

    “President, why?!”

He looked lost, full of both frustration and disbelief.

Xu Shaochen walked up behind Jenny, placing his hands on her slender shoulders. He glanced at the young man and smiled faintly. “She’s my aunt. Is that a good enough reason for you?”

    “Impossible! You’re a Westerner and she’s…”

The young man started to argue reflexively, but before he could finish, the color drained from his face as he realized something. A rumor about the Xu Corporation floated in his mind—there was indeed a mysterious young heir.
