Chapter Index

    “Come to my office.”

    With that, Jenny hung up.

Moments later, a tall, white woman with a single ponytail, wearing a black suit, black trousers, and high heels, came in.

As she stepped in, she completely ignored Xu Shaochen, folded her hands over her lower abdomen, and respectfully greeted Jenny: “Boss.”

“Keep a close eye on the R&D Department. Someone’s leaking inside information. If anyone tries to take confidential files out, detain them.”

Jenny spoke coldly. Her demeanor had completely changed from the last time Xu Shaochen saw her. She seemed like a different person.

    “Yes, boss.”

The woman nodded, responded, and then turned to leave, her high heels clicking as she walked away.

    “Who is she?”

Xu Shaochen asked only after the woman had left.

“A bodyguard. I’m a woman, there are certain situations where it’s inappropriate to have a male bodyguard.”

Jenny explained succinctly, then shot a warning glance at Xu Shaochen as if something had crossed her mind. “Don’t even think about messing with them. When a woman is in heat, she can be very dangerous, too unpredictable.”

“Aunt, what are you thinking? Do you really think I’m some kind of machine that just drills everywhere I go?”

Xu Shaochen felt his character had been slandered. He had standards, okay? Not just any woman was worthy of his embrace.

“Hmph, it better stay that way.”

Jenny coldly snorted. She was worried that this womanizing scumbag might try to hit on her personal bodyguards.

Xu Shaochen chuckled, the hands he had placed on Jenny’s shoulders slowly sliding down. “Aunt, you said women in heat are dangerous. What about you?”

    “Slap!”

Jenny slapped his hand away. “Get lost! And don’t even think about trying that on me. If Father found out, he’d be furious.”

“Maybe Grandfather was worried I wouldn’t find a wife, so he raised me a child bride.”

Xu Shaochen muttered, since after all, this was a tradition in some rural areas.

    “What did you just say?”

Jenny’s eyebrows shot up, and a dangerous aura emanated from her.

Xu Shaochen immediately backtracked: “Nothing! I said nothing. You must’ve misheard… Having audio hallucinations, maybe?”

At noon, the two of them headed to the company’s cafeteria for lunch.

The company’s cafeteria was divided into three levels. The first was for regular employees, the second for middle management, and the third was reserved for VIPs like Jenny.

Jenny also had a private dining room.

Of course, special privileges like these were everywhere, especially since this was a private enterprise.

At the entrance, Xu Shaochen and Jenny ran into Peter and his grandson.

Peter Jr.’s head was still wrapped in gauze. The moment he saw Xu Shaochen, his face darkened.

    “Uncle Peter.”

Jenny greeted Peter with a smile. By seniority, she did indeed have to call him “uncle.”

    “Mhm.”

Peter nodded kindly, as though yesterday’s events in the conference room were already forgotten.

“Mr. Peter, why don’t we all have lunch together?”

    Xu Shaochen extended an invitation.

“I’d rather not. After all, in some people’s eyes, we’re just dogs. How could a dog dine at the same table as its master?”

Before Peter could respond, Peter Jr. sneered, sarcastically insulting Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen smiled calmly. “At least you know your place. That’s why I didn’t invite you, only Mr. Peter.”

    “F**k! You—”

Peter Jr. was instantly enraged, his eyes glaring red at Xu Shaochen.

    “Enough!”

Peter snapped, immediately stopping his grandson from escalating the situation. He looked at Xu Shaochen and said, “I appreciate the offer, but we’ll pass.”

With that, he turned and led Peter Jr. away.

The more they spoke, the more chances there were for Peter Jr. to let something slip. Knowing his grandson’s temperament, Peter was worried he might accidentally spill secrets under Xu Shaochen’s provocations.

The best course of action was to leave quickly.

As they turned away, Peter Jr. shot a venomous look at Xu Shaochen. Damn yellow-skinned bastard. Just wait. In a few days, you won’t be smiling anymore.

“No matter how accomplished a grandfather is, it’s hard to raise a good grandson. This is true for at least ninety percent of them. The generational gap is just too wide to bridge.”

Staring after them, Xu Shaochen commented dryly.

    “What about me, then?”

Jenny deadpanned. She had the nagging feeling that Xu Shaochen was subtly alluding to her.

Xu Shaochen’s face changed, realizing his blunder. He quickly explained with a smile: “You’re different. Grandpa raised you as his daughter.”

Jenny’s expression softened a bit as she entered her private dining room. Xu Shaochen let out a sigh of relief and quickly followed her.

The moment Xu Shaochen stepped into Jenny’s exclusive private dining room, he was stunned again.

This wasn’t just a private room for dining. It looked more like a restaurant with just one table. The room was massive, far too large for a dining room.

The decor was exquisitely refined. The tables and chairs were made from precious wood, and even the wine glasses were crystal.

Across from the main dining seat, the wall had been entirely converted into a massive screen—perfect for watching movies.

There were many expensive plants and flowers arranged around the room, and a shelf behind held delicate antique ornaments.

If a thief managed to break in, it would be like hitting the jackpot. Any one item from here would ensure a year without work.

“I never should’ve gone abroad. The moment I did, the bright sun of our homeland was tainted by the evil forces of capitalism.”

Xu Shaochen flipped through the menu with an exaggerated expression.

Of course, it wasn’t the dishes that were shocking—he was no stranger to fancy meals. It was the sheer extravagance of the private room.

    “And then?”

Jenny tilted her head, looking at him with an amused smile.

“And then, I hope that corruption comes on even stronger. Don’t you have eight secretaries? They’ve worked hard all day. Why not invite them all to join us for dinner?”

Xu Shaochen felt like he was being really considerate. What other boss was so thoughtful about his employees?

Jenny chuckled. “Four of those secretaries are men.”

After all, men were stronger, more durable, and better suited for late-night work, such as reading documents.

“What’s a bit of suffering for men? It’s training. Just let the four women come up!”

    “Get lost! You’re dreaming.”

Jenny rolled her eyes flirtatiously, and Xu Shaochen’s heart skipped a beat. This charming young man wasn’t so pure after all.
