Chapter 845: I’m Just Having a Drink of Water
by xennovelWhen Mike received Xu Shaochen’s call, he was in the middle of listening to a family discussion about the matter that Xu Shaochen had mentioned earlier that afternoon.
“What did he say?”
Mike’s father asked.
Mike recounted the matter.
“Agree to it. Consider it as a gesture to show him our sincerity.”
Mike’s uncle said without hesitation. They had just decided to agree to Xu Shaochen’s terms.
Trading 1% of their family’s shares in exchange for 10% of Xu Corporation’s shares.
Xu Shaochen was right. If they didn’t agree, the Nick Family and the Johnson Family would certainly be interested.
Now that Xu Shaochen had approached them first, it was their advantage. They had to quickly make the right decision.
“You handle it. Clean up all those rats in the dirty gutters. They’ve come to the streets, and now they’re polluting everything.”
Mike’s father said to him. In his eyes, the Scar Brothers were nothing more than rats in a sewer.
If they had stayed in the sewers, sneaking out only when no one was around at night to scavenge for food, no one would have cared.
New York was big after all. There was still enough space for a few rats to survive.
But now, those rats were running through the streets in broad daylight. It was damaging the city’s image and, worse, annoying certain influential people.
So, there had to be a rat extermination operation to kill those greedy rats that didn’t understand their place.
………………
Chen Qian told Xu Shaochen what he had pried out of Peter Jr.’s mouth.
He knew how to weigh the importance of things.
He could report the matter to both Xu Shaochen and Jenny.
But he couldn’t report to Jenny first.
Because it was Xu Shaochen who had asked him to do it. A smart person knows whose orders to follow.
Even if Xu Shaochen might not care about this detail, he couldn’t take the gamble on that possibility.
After hearing the report, Xu Shaochen headed directly to the company.
The entire company was working overtime tonight, and Jenny, the president, was no exception.
He found Jenny in the office and told her what had happened.
“Damn it.”
Jenny’s delicate face turned icy as she spat out the words coldly.
“Aunt, the most urgent thing now is to find the person from the R&D department. He’s Peter Sr.’s student. We should be able to trace him through the records.”
Xu Shaochen suggested.
Peter Sr. had studied at a private high school in New York years ago. All they needed to do was check which group leaders in the R&D department had graduated from that school and were taught by Peter Sr.
Jenny took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and made a call. She gave a few instructions over the phone.
After hanging up, the two of them waited in the office.
Jenny stood by the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, her face expressionless as she stared at the vibrant neon cityscape outside.
She was admiring the view, unaware that she had become a beautiful sight in Xu Shaochen’s eyes.
From where he sat, Xu Shaochen had a perfect view of her graceful figure, golden hair, and—especially—her long legs wrapped in black stockings. The sight was breathtaking.
“When Father was still here, everything within the company ran smoothly, without a hint of trouble. But since he’s gone, one problem after another has sprung up.”
Jenny spoke as if talking to herself, but it also seemed like she was talking to Xu Shaochen. Her voice carried a hint of exhaustion.
“That’s because Grandfather suppressed those conflicts. Now that he’s gone, they’ve rebounded even harder.”
A sense of pity surged in Xu Shaochen’s heart. He got up, walked over, and gently placed his hands on her fragrant shoulders. His voice was soft and comforting.
“That’s why I try to learn from Father, but I can never do what he did.”
In Jenny’s mind, the man who had adopted her when she was young had always been her idol.
People often said that her way of handling matters carried her father’s shadow, that she closely resembled him.
That’s because children often unconsciously mimic their idols.
“You’ve already done very well. If it were me, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do as good a job as you.”
Xu Shaochen chuckled bitterly and shook his head. If it were him running the company, it would have surely suffered much worse damage.
While he was speaking, his hands, which had been resting on her shoulders, moved down to her waist.
“Get lost.”
Jenny coldly spat out the word and jabbed her elbow back toward Xu Shaochen.
“Why so violent?”
Xu Shaochen quickly let go. The warmth of her soft skin still lingered on his fingers.
Jenny turned and rolled her eyes at him. “In China, a woman’s waist is very private. It’s not something just anyone can touch.”
“Am I just anyone? I was being very careful.” Xu Shaochen teased. He could feel that Jenny’s mood had lightened considerably.
“If that’s the case, it seemed more like you were stealing.”
Jenny replied with a smile.
“Is that so?”
A playful glint flashed across Xu Shaochen’s eyes as he stepped closer.
Jenny’s expression changed, and she instinctively took a step back, her eyes full of caution. “What are you trying to do?”
Her heart raced to her throat, thinking Xu Shaochen was about to do something unsuitable for writing down.
“I’m just getting some water. Why are you so uptight?”
Xu Shaochen rolled his eyes, walked over to the water cooler behind her, and poured himself a cup of water.
Jenny: “………..”
She was fuming inside, gritting her teeth in frustration.
He did it on purpose. That little rascal absolutely did it on purpose, just to make her look ridiculous.
“Knock knock knock…”
Suddenly, there was a knock on the office door.
“Come in.”
Jenny returned to her usual calm demeanor, sitting elegantly in her office chair like the goddess she always appeared to be.
To most people, she was always that unattainable, high-status figure.
But in Xu Shaochen’s eyes, she was just a beautiful and attractive woman.
“Click—”
The office door opened as soon as she spoke.
Two women led in a man whose face was bruised and blood was trickling from the corner of his mouth.
One of the women was someone Xu Shaochen had seen in the office before. It seemed these were Jenny’s trusted aides.
“Boss, as per your instructions, we’ve brought him.”
The white woman with a single ponytail spoke respectfully to Jenny.
Jenny nodded, and the two women turned and left the office.
Xu Shaochen looked at the man, kneeling on the ground, and frowned. “A Chinese?”
“Stick Nation…native,” the man stuttered. His Chinese was fairly fluent.
Xu Shaochen relaxed his furrowed brow, nodded, then lifted his leg and kicked him.
“Ugh!”
The man let out a grunt and spat out a mouthful of blood, collapsing onto the floor.
“Do you know why?”
Xu Shaochen put a foot on his chest and asked from above, his eyes cold, as if he were looking at an insignificant ant.
