Chapter Index

Little Peter was quickly taken away to arrange a room.

Only the core members of the Johnson Family were left in the living room.

As the head of the family, Sam was only in his fifties, an undoubtedly young age.

“Speak freely, everyone. Do you think his words are credible? If you have any thoughts, bring them up.”

Sam lightly tapped the table with his fingers, his tone calm as he looked at the group.

“Father, I don’t think he has any reason to lie to us. Besides, what he said can be easily verified. There’s no need to tell such a clumsy lie. Just have someone check it out.”

Jim spoke, although he felt they didn’t need to send anyone to investigate. Peter had no reason to lie at all.

However, for the sake of caution and considering others’ opinions, it was best to have someone verify it.

Sam nodded at a middle-aged man to his left: “Ask around.”

They had been eyeing the Xu Corporation for so long, of course they had insiders in it. However, they hadn’t reached the upper echelons yet.

But this meant the information they got was only what Xu Shaochen wanted them to know.

Because only the real top executives of the Xu Corporation were privy to the meeting’s details.

And those people, unless they were as extreme as old Peter, would never do anything against the company’s interests.

The middle-aged man took out his phone, made a call, said a few words, and then hung up. He looked at Sam and said:

“Our people said the Xu Corporation did indeed have reports of a missing formula. He even thought it was our doing, which is why he didn’t report it.”

Sam squinted slightly and after a while said, “Since that’s the case, then agree to his deal. First, give him the money he wants to keep him appeased. Only then will he hand over the formula.”

“Father, not only can we make a fortune this time, but we can also deal a blow to the Xu Corporation. When the time comes, we’ll join forces with the Nick and Karen families to put pressure on them. The Xu Corporation won’t be able to withstand it and will have to agree to our proposal of a 10% stake for each family!”

Jim said excitedly. He could hardly wait, imagining the thrill of gradually devouring the behemoth that was the Xu Corporation.

“Hahaha, well said! Once we have the formula, we’ll halt production at our factory and mass-produce the new drug that the Xu Corporation has developed.”

“After producing a certain quantity, we’ll release the formula to the public, then sell our stockpile before other pharmaceutical companies have time to react and make a fortune.”

“What can the Xu Corporation do to hold us accountable then? There’s an old saying in Chinese, ‘The law does not punish the masses.’ It fits perfectly with this situation.”

The others were also energized, each envisioning the moment they would soon start raking in money.

“Jim, go get that bottle of wine I’ve been saving. On such a fine night as this, how could we not share a drink together?”

Sam, his old face full of wrinkles, smiled as he looked at Jim.

    “As you wish, Father.”

Jim smiled slightly, got up, and took out a bottle of red wine from the wine cabinet, along with a few tall glasses.

He placed the glasses on the table and filled them one by one with wine.

    “Cheers.”

Jim raised his glass as he stood up, and the others followed suit, clinking their glasses with a crisp sound.

Under the lights, the core members of the Johnson Family all had brilliant smiles on their faces.

    ………………

Xu Shaochen had no idea about any of this.

At the moment, he was personally driving Jenny home.

“Didn’t you say you were leaving?”

Jenny asked from the passenger seat, a smile gently curving her lips.

“I did, but I couldn’t bear to leave you, so I came back.”

Xu Shaochen said with a smile, stepping harder on the gas as the car sped up.

    “Slow down!”

Seeing the buildings flash by outside, Jenny’s face turned pale in fright.

Xu Shaochen flashed a mischievous smile: “Now you tell me to slow down? One day, you’ll be begging me to speed up.”

Jenny didn’t get it at first, but when she did, her face flushed red with a mixture of embarrassment and anger. She fiercely pinched Xu Shaochen’s thigh.

    “Ah!”

Xu Shaochen cried out in pain. The steering wheel jerked, and the car swerved toward the curb. He quickly straightened the wheel just in time.

    “Phew—”

Jenny breathed a sigh of relief, having narrowly escaped disaster. A faint sheen of cold sweat dotted her white forehead, and she patted her chest in lingering fear, her ample bosom shaking, making Xu Shaochen feel dizzy.

“Are you trying to take me down with you because you couldn’t have me in life? Is that it? Die together, and in death, we can finally be together?”

Xu Shaochen said in exasperation. It had been way too dangerous just now. If not for his good looks and quick reflexes, anyone else would’ve already been chatting with the King of Hell.

“Who told you to talk nonsense? You have no respect! And when did I ever yearn for you? Stop inflating your own importance, OK?”

Jenny had felt a little guilty before, but now, hearing Xu Shaochen’s shameless words, she was both amused and exasperated.

To echo a popular phrase trending on the Chinese internet—’You’re so cheeky.’

Ten minutes later, they arrived home.

    “Jenny, Shaochen, you’re back.”

In the living room, Xie Wei, Li Qianya, and Tang Silin were watching TV and greeted the two as they entered.

“Oh my God, we nearly didn’t make it back.”

Jenny groaned as she collapsed onto the sofa, kicking off her high heels, revealing her slender, fair feet.

    “What happened?”

The other three women asked curiously.

Jenny shot a sharp glare at Xu Shaochen: “He was driving way too fast.”

Li Qianya nodded in agreement: “He does drive fast, and sometimes just goes off course unexpectedly.”

“Off course? I thought he usually has bodyguards drive?” Jenny asked curiously.

Li Qianya was taken aback: “What’s driving by bodyguards got to do with him driving?”

Xie Wei and Tang Silin exchanged glances, they both felt a little speechless.

“Jenny, you two aren’t talking about the same kind of ‘driving’.”

    Xie Wei explained.

“Then what driving are you talking about?”

    Jenny was even more confused.

Xie Wei whispered a few words in her ear.

After she finished listening, Jenny looked at Xu Shaochen thoughtfully and nodded: “Yeah, he does that kind of ‘driving’ with me often too.”

“Heh, eventually, he’s going to ride that American original car of yours.” Li Qianya muttered.

Xie Wei and Tang Silin both glared at her.

Li Qianya stuck out her tongue guiltily and said nothing more.

Xu Shaochen sat down next to Tang Silin. Just as she was about to get up and leave, he quickly grabbed her: “Tomorrow, I’ll take you to the lab on the island.”

    Tang Silin instantly stopped struggling.
