Chapter Index

Xu Shaochen examined the interior decor of the private room.

It was simple and outdated, but at least looked clean and tidy.

“This place has been open for many years. The owner and chef are both authentic Chinese locals. If you want genuine Chinese flavors, this is the only place in Chinatown.”

Seeing Xu Shaochen looking around the room, Chen Dongqiu took the initiative to introduce the basic details of the place.

It was clear that he had done some research and inquiries before deciding on this location.

This showed how much he valued this meal.

He had put a lot of thought into this lunch. Xu Shaochen must be tired of fancy delicacies.

Since that’s the case, what could be better than tasting authentic Chinese stir-fry in a foreign country? “You guys drink tea while I get the kitchen to serve the dishes.”

Sun Hai finished speaking, got up, and left the private room. He returned about three minutes later.

Another ten minutes passed, and the waiter began bringing the dishes.

First came the cold dishes, followed by the hot dishes.

“Xu Shao, I propose a toast to you. This situation has indeed been a great trouble for you.”

Chen Dongqiu raised his first glass of wine towards Xu Shaochen.

“Miss Jenny, I hope you enjoy the taste of Chinese cuisine. Miss Li, don’t hold back either.”

After eating for about twenty minutes, a sudden commotion broke out outside, accompanied by several gunshots.

    “Ah! Someone’s been killed!”

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The faces of Xu Shaochen’s group changed instantly. The bodyguards in the room reached under their jackets, gripping their pistols.

Long Yi and Long Er stood on either side of the door, guns already drawn.

“Don’t panic. Keep eating and drinking. With Long Yi and Long Er here, there’s no big problem.”

Xu Shaochen said calmly. Including Long Yi and Long Er, they had six bodyguards in the room, each carrying three extra magazines.

As long as it wasn’t a heavy firepower attack, it wouldn’t be a big issue. Besides, this incident wasn’t aimed at them, or else the shots would have been fired upstairs.

Apart from Xu Shaochen, only Chen Dongqiu, Jenny, and Tang Silin remained calm.

Xie Wei and Li Qianya were pale, and even Sun Hai wasn’t much better off, with his chopsticks trembling lightly in his hand.

    “Bang!”

At that moment, the door was suddenly smashed open and a man, clutching his arm, rushed in.

    “Don’t move!”

As soon as he entered, Long Yi and Long Er pinned him to the ground, placing the muzzle of a gun against his head.

“Help… help me! I’m from China too, and I haven’t done anything wrong.”

Hearing his Chinese accent, the young man was overjoyed and quickly pleaded.

Xu Shaochen glanced at him. The young man had been shot in the arm, and blood was spilling out.

“There’s an extra chair. If you don’t mind, come over and eat with us.”

Xu Shaochen spoke lightly. The young man had spoken two sentences, convincing Xu Shaochen to spare his life.

He was from China. He hadn’t done anything wrong.

Those were the two reasons, and that was enough.

“Thank you, thank you… but wouldn’t it be safer if I hid under the table?”

The young man stood up and said to Xu Shaochen. After all, he was being chased by Meiguo police.

    “Do as you wish.”

Xu Shaochen casually said three words.

“Brother, if he can’t protect you, hiding under the table or even in the sky won’t help.”

Chen Dongqiu said with a smile.

The young man became suspicious after hearing this. Who was this man, talking so big?

However, he didn’t crawl under the table. Instead, he sat down in an empty seat next to Sun Hai.

“Alright, put the guns away and just keep an eye out.”

Xu Shaochen ordered, and Long Yi and Long Er holstered their guns.

    “Bang!”

The young man hadn’t been seated for long before the door was violently kicked open.

Two Meiguo police officers burst into the room.

“Don’t move, or I’ll shoot you dead!”

The two officers aimed their guns at the young man they had been chasing as soon as they entered.

The young man stiffened and looked at Xu Shaochen.

But Xu Shaochen acted as if he hadn’t seen the look and continued to eat and drink.

“You, all of you, get out of here now!”

One of the officers looked at Xu Shaochen and arrogantly commanded.

At first, seeing the bodyguards in the room made them a bit cautious, because in Meiguo, wealthy people were the hardest to deal with.

But when they realized that apart from Jenny, everyone else was from Chinese, their concerns vanished.

To put it bluntly, in Meiguo, Chinese people had lower status than black people. Even those with a bit of money were treated with disdain.

“He’s my friend. I’m protecting him. Now you can leave and stop disturbing my meal.”

Xu Shaochen wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin and spoke to the officers in a calm tone.

The young man who had been shot was dumbfounded. Was his big brother really this bold? Could he really handle this?

“F*ck! Damn it! Do you know what you’re saying? Do you know who you’re talking to? I think you’re in cahoots with him. Come with us now for questioning!”

The two Meiguo officers were furious that Xu Shaochen dared to speak to them like that.

“Long Yi, explain to them who they’re talking to.”

    Xu Shaochen said faintly.

    “Clack!”

Suddenly, the sounds of bullets being chambered echoed in the room, as six guns were aimed at the two officers.

The two previously arrogant officers turned pale instantly. Their hands holding the guns trembled, their bodies going rigid.

“Sir… Calm… Please calm down. Have your bodyguards put down their weapons. Do you know the consequences of attacking police officers?”

One of the officers stammered, his attitude now respectful, calling Xu Shaochen ‘sir’ in a friendly tone.

    “Is one million USD enough?”

Xu Shaochen asked as he looked at the two officers.

The two were stunned, not understanding what Xu Shaochen meant.

“Didn’t you ask me the consequences of attacking officers? I just want to know if a million USD is enough to compensate for killing you.”

“If not, then ten million, or a billion. Whatever works. Is it enough?”

Xu Shaochen further explained, his tone calm, as if discussing something trivial.

A million, ten million, or even a billion—these were just numbers to him.

The two officers were drenched in sweat. Their instincts told them they were in serious trouble today.

The young man who had been shot was in shock. He used to think guns were the most powerful, but now he was uncertain.

He had discovered a weapon more powerful than a gun—money.

A billion dollars was casually mentioned. How much money did Xu Shaochen actually have?

Still, he thought that the lives of those two bastards weren’t worth that much. Even giving them ten thousand dollars would be an act of charity.
