Chapter Index

    A few minutes later.

Guo Qi and the other two entered the office.

    “It’s you?”

Xu Shaochen immediately recognized Gao Tian. So he was with the Hongmen.

    “Xu… Brother Xu.”

Gao Tian seemed somewhat uneasy. After all, knowing who the other party was and being in this environment made it hard not to feel nervous.

Guo Qi, however, stared at Jenny with shining eyes. But he wasn’t completely stupid, only taking a greedy glance before reluctantly looking away.

He was inwardly jealous of Xu Shaochen. Damn, with such a beautiful woman swaying in front of him every day, this bastard definitely must have had his way with her, right?

“Why have you sought me out?”

Xu Shaochen was toying with a pen in his hand as he looked at Gao Tian and asked.

“Mr. Xu, hello. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Guo Qi. My father is Guo Zhenting, the Deputy Master of Hongmen.”

Guo Qi took a step forward and, straightening his chest, spoke to Xu Shaochen.

He thought his status was not much worse than Xu Shaochen’s, just with less money.

“What can I do for you?”

Xu Shaochen nodded, realizing that this person was the real focus.

Song Yuzhi was also quietly observing Xu Shaochen, her eyes filled with curiosity. After all, she’d seen him online many times, but this was the first time she was meeting him in person.

“Mr. Xu, could we speak privately for a moment?”

Guo Qi glanced at Jenny, clearly indicating that he hoped she could step out for a bit.

“No need. Whatever you have to say, just say it. She’s very trustworthy.”

    Xu Shaochen said calmly.

Jenny’s lips curved up slightly at his words.

Guo Qi frowned and glanced at Jenny again, then turned to Xu Shaochen and said, “It’s like this. I wonder what Mr. Xu thinks of our Hongmen.”

“To be honest, I don’t know much.” Xu Shaochen spoke frankly. Most of what he knew came from the internet and movies.

Guo Qi was at a loss. Damn, why wasn’t this going as he had imagined?

With Xu Shaochen’s first response, he was already blocked from launching into the eloquent speech he had prepared.

After a brief pause, Guo Qi spoke more directly, “Mr. Xu, you saved someone from Hongmen, so you’ve formed a bond with us. I’m here now to invite you to join our organization, a global group representing the interests of Chinese people abroad.”

He had to admit, there was some skill in his speech. After all, even though his father, Guo Zhenting, was quite the rascal, Guo Qi had been influenced by him from a young age.

Gao Tian and Song Yuzhi both looked extremely embarrassed, wishing they could dig a hole to bury themselves in. They couldn’t even look Xu Shaochen in the eyes.

Only Guo Qi remained confident, heart blazing. He believed he was about to make a huge achievement.

Xu Shaochen was initially stunned, then chuckled. After a moment, he shook his head and said, “Young Master Guo, I appreciate the thought, but I’m not interested. I saved him simply because it was convenient. Feel free to go.”

In his mind, this Guo Qi was clearly out of his mind, his thinking refreshingly strange. How could he suggest such a ridiculous idea?

Why would Xu give up being the richest man in the world to join a criminal organization? That’s just absurd.
Furthermore, even if joining Hongmen could offer him significant benefits, he might consider it. After all, he was always a pragmatist.

But without any tangible benefits, it would only tarnish his reputation. He’d have to be insane to accept Guo Qi’s offer.

“Mr. Xu, you don’t know much about Hongmen. How about I introduce you to its history and current situation in detail…”

Guo Qi, brimming with confidence, couldn’t believe Xu Shaochen had turned him down. But he refused to give up, unwilling to let such a golden opportunity slip through his fingers.

“No need, Young Master Guo. I’ve already told you I’m not interested. Please leave.”

Xu Shaochen frowned. Why was this person so blind to the situation? I’ve already signaled for him to leave, yet he keeps pestering me.

There’s still a pile of documents waiting for me. I don’t have time to waste on this fool.

“Young Master Guo, let’s just go.”

Song Yuzhi and Gao Tian saw that Xu Shaochen was annoyed and hurriedly tried to persuade Guo Qi.

“No, we can’t leave now that we’re here.” Guo Qi shoved the two aside and, looking righteously at Xu Shaochen, scolded, “As a fellow Chinese, you have the ability but refuse to fight for the interests of your people. Isn’t that a bit petty?”

Xu Shaochen’s face darkened as he coldly replied, “Young Master Guo, I suggest you watch your words. Before you talk, you should learn the facts.”

“My Xu Corporation donates over 100 billion annually to charity. Personally, my charity organization, Lotus Charity Foundation, has already deployed several billions of charity funds domestically.”

“Now, you’re coming to accuse me? Tell me, where did you muster the courage!”

Gao Tian and Song Yuzhi both turned pale, trying to forcibly drag Guo Qi away.

“Let go of me! Xu! I’m giving you face by personally inviting you! Don’t make me regret it. So what if you have a bit of money? We at Hongmen have plenty of people. We’re not worse off than you!”

Guo Qi roared at Xu Shaochen, his confidence shattered by Xu’s casual rejection. How could someone as prideful as him tolerate such treatment?

“Flaunting your Chinese pride as you swagger in and then slink away quietly—aren’t you afraid of being laughed at?”
“You dare! You think Hongmen is so mighty. You’ll be lucky if I don’t wipe out the last hold Hongmen has in America.”

Xu Shaochen’s eyes were as cold as ice, as if he were looking at a dead man.

“Brother Xu, this guy is notorious in Hongmen for being an idiot. Don’t take him seriously.”

“Yes, Mr. Xu. Guo Qi has always used his father’s position to throw his weight around. Please don’t take it to heart.”

Gao Tian and Song Yuzhi were both scared out of their wits, hurriedly apologizing to Xu Shaochen.

“How dare you! Ungrateful traitors! Just wait until I get back. I’ll make sure you’re punished!”

Guo Qi, trembling with anger, glared at Song Yuzhi and Gao Tian, grinding his teeth as he growled.

After that, he faced Xu Shaochen and sneered, “You think I’m afraid of you? Go ahead, try!”

Xu Shaochen was amused by Guo Qi’s arrogance. When did Hongmen become so bold?

He circled around his desk and slowly approached Guo Qi.

“What do you plan to do?”

Guo Qi stood firm, staring back at him without a hint of fear.

“I just want to see whether you have three heads and six arms. How else are you brave enough to talk to me like this?”

Xu Shaochen spoke calmly as he looked at him.

    “Xu…”

    *Slap!*

Before Guo Qi could finish speaking, Xu Shaochen slapped him across the face.
    Word by word, he said:

“Now I get it. You don’t have three heads and six arms. You’re just asking for death.”
