Chapter Index

    Morning.

Xu Shaochen, Tang Silin, and Jenny boarded a private yacht together, heading for the island.

With them were Song Shicheng, Lu Yuanwei, Sun Hai, and others.

Chen Dongqiu had already personally escorted the shipment back to the country. Xie Wei and Li Qianya had been shopping too much yesterday and had ended up with blisters, so they were resting at home today.

“It’ll take about three hours to reach the island. Since no temporary airport has been built yet, we’ll have to take the yacht,”

Jenny said to Xu Shaochen while standing on the deck, watching the crashing waves.

    “The yacht’s pretty nice.”

    Xu Shaochen complimented.

This yacht had three levels, and there was even a small helicopter capable of carrying five people on the top deck.

“Of course, I had it custom-made. There’s no other yacht like this in the world,”

Jenny said proudly with a smile.

    “I quite like it.”

    Xu Shaochen added.

“Everyone who comes aboard says the same thing…” Before Jenny could finish, she suddenly realized, “Wait, what do you mean?”

“The yacht is beautiful, but it’ll be mine soon.”

Xu Shaochen grinned. He’d always wanted a yacht to play around with, and now it was basically being delivered to him.

“Get lost! Don’t even think about it. You’re welcome to use it, but owning it? Not a chance!”

Jenny gave him a wary look, realizing this ‘bandit’ was plotting to steal her beloved yacht.

“You should watch how you talk to me. Once we’re on the island, in the middle of nowhere, with thick forests and towering cliffs, who’s going to hear you scream for help?”

Xu Shaochen gave a sinister smile.

Jenny softly chuckled, rested one hand on Xu Shaochen’s shoulder, and with a seductive look, whispered, “Sweetie, I’ll give you ten lives, and you still wouldn’t dare.”

With that, Jenny huffed softly, flipped her golden hair, and sauntered into the cabin, swaying her hips.

    “Phew—”

Xu Shaochen took a deep breath.

    “You’re quite the tease.”

Three and a half hours later, they finally arrived at their destination.

    “Miss.”

Waiting at the shore were bodyguards responsible for the laboratory’s security.

After disembarking the yacht, they got directly into the cars.

Naturally, Xu Shaochen was in the same car as Jenny and Tang Silin, sitting in the middle with one woman on each side, enjoying a truly divine experience.

Xu Shaochen placed his hand on Tang Silin’s leg. Smooth.

    Tang Silin glared at him.

Jenny completely ignored the scene, casually fiddling with her lipstick.

About twenty minutes later, the car stopped at the island’s only existing building complex.

“Mr. Xu, I’ll take them for a tour around the island. You don’t need to worry about us. We definitely won’t be done in a week.”

Song Shicheng approached Xu Shaochen, explaining that the amount of work needed to plan such a large island was immense. Even saying a week was an understatement.

“Alright, thanks for your hard work. The island’s security team will fully cooperate with you. If you need anything, just contact them,”

Xu Shaochen said, patting Song Shicheng on the shoulder.

“Brother Xu, I’m going to join them for some fun, but I’ll need two bodyguards to avoid getting lost.”

Sun Hai requested, clearly eager to steer clear of the laboratory.

Xu Shaochen had invested heavily in setting up a laboratory on this island, researching things that were undoubtedly confidential.

He wasn’t comfortable entering the lab, so it was better to stay away.

    “Alright.”

After sending off Sun Hai, Song Shicheng, and the others, Xu Shaochen led Jenny and Tang Silin into the laboratory.

    “Mr. Xu, you’re here.”

The head of the research team, studying the two strange pieces of jade, greeted Xu Shaochen, dressed in a white lab coat.

This man was Chen Li, who Xu Shaochen had sent from Jingcheng. He was the same person who had helped Xiao Huang study the jade back then.

Chen Li had a great deal of experience in this field, which is why Xu Shaochen had appointed him as team leader.

    “How far have we gotten?”

Xu Shaochen asked. This was what concerned him most.

Chen Li gave a brilliant smile, “Mr. Xu, even if you hadn’t come, I was about to contact you. We’ve made a breakthrough.”

“Oh? Tell me more,” Xu Shaochen’s eyes lit up as he eagerly asked.

Tang Silin’s eyes also sparkled with curiosity, focusing on Chen Li.

Jenny, unable to understand the importance of the research, nevertheless remained curious, wondering what could be so significant to warrant Xu Shaochen’s attention.

“Mr. Xu, it’s better if you see it for yourself.”

Chen Li led them through a series of turns, arriving at a secured door, where he entered a password and performed facial recognition before the heavy iron door slowly opened.

Inside were numerous glass cases holding a wide variety of animals, from tiny sparrows to large tigers.

    “What is this, a zoo?”

Jenny couldn’t help but remark. She had only helped with the construction of the laboratory and had no idea what the facility was actually used for after completion.

    “Mr. Xu, this way.”

Chen Li led the group further inward, stopping in front of a glass case in the far corner.

    “Ah! Is that…a rat?”

The sight inside made both Tang Silin and Jenny’s faces go pale with fright.

Even Xu Shaochen felt a slight tremor when he first laid eyes on it.

A black rat, larger than an orange cat, lay inside the case, resembling the one Xu Shaochen had seen in Xiao Huang’s underground lab back then.

But this one had a pair of wings—black, fleshy wings—growing from its back.

“Why…why does it have wings? Are you conducting gene experiments?”

Jenny’s gaze flitted suspiciously between Xu Shaochen and Chen Li.

“Gene experiments? No, no, nothing that complicated,” Chen Li shook his head and turned to Xu Shaochen. “Mr. Xu, we extracted two distinct substances from the jade and fused them together, then injected them into a regular white mouse. This is the result.”

“It may look like the only difference is the wings compared to the mouse we saw in Jingcheng, but it’s much more than that. Its vitality is stronger, its attack power fiercer, and most importantly, it’s emotionally stable, meaning it can be controlled,”

Chen Li’s eyes gleamed with fervor as he spoke, his excitement building until his eyes turned red, “Mr. Xu, we’re only scratching the surface of these two pieces of jade. I have a feeling that we’re on the brink of a discovery that will change the world!”

Looking at the frenzy in Chen Li’s eyes,

Xu Shaochen suddenly felt like the villain in a movie.

What if one day, a team of heroes comes to destroy him, the great threat to the world?
