Chapter Index

    “Madman!”

Looking at the fanatical Chen Li, Jenny couldn’t help but whisper a curse.

These researchers all have abnormal thought processes, like they escaped from a mental hospital.

“Mr. Xu, do you know what the appearance of this rat represents?”

    Chen Li asked.

“Cut the crap. Do you want to continue or not?”

    Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow.

Chen Li awkwardly laughed and quickly said, “This rat’s current characteristics include strong attack power, high vitality, slow cell aging, and an extended lifespan. All aspects have been greatly improved.”

“This means that with further research, these traits might appear in humans, altering human genes and creating stronger humans.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Shaochen closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and looked at Chen Li. “You must speed up the research. If you need money, you’ll get money. If you need people, you’ll get people. If your team wants stars from the sky, I’ll find a way to bring them down for you.”

Without a doubt, Chen Li’s depiction was incredibly tempting. Even if nothing else, just the prospect of extending life was deeply alluring.

Xu Shaochen suddenly thought of Barron.

Back then, Barron went to great lengths to acquire that jade.

He’s getting old. No matter how much money he makes, he probably doesn’t care anymore.

So, his primary goal must be to survive, and to live as long as possible.

Now, considering Chen Li’s words about the jade containing a substance that extends life, did Barron already know this?

How did he find out? Xu Shaochen wondered, deciding that he needed to visit that old guy when he returned.

Jenny felt that if everything in the lab ever got exposed, Xu Shaochen and these researchers would be wanted by the whole world.

Because this kind of research is absolutely forbidden by every government. The instability is far too great.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Xu. This is not only your wish, but also my lifelong goal.”

Chen Li said word by word. He felt as if his life finally had meaning. If Xu Shaochen announced a halt to the research, he might just commit suicide.

After touring the lab, Xu Shaochen left with Tang Silin and Jenny.

“Aren’t you planning to stay here? Any thoughts?”

Xu Shaochen looked at Tang Silin and asked.

Tang Silin shook her head. “There’s no point in staying anymore. The data I have is useless now, because the things you’ve developed here surpass everything I know.”

At this, she paused, then looked at Xu Shaochen and said calmly, “In other words, I no longer have any value to you. How do you plan to deal with me?”

She had thought that the data she held was unique in the world, but after a tour of the lab,

She realized just how outdated her knowledge was compared to the research at the lab.

“How to deal with you? You’re useless to me now, so of course you should just go where it’s cool. Why would I keep you around, getting in the way?”

Xu Shaochen sneered coldly, though his tone remained calm.

Tang Silin’s body trembled, biting her lip as she looked at Xu Shaochen. Her face gradually paled.

“What are you staring at? I’m just joking. How could I let a great beauty like you go so easily?”

Xu Shaochen gave a wicked smile.

    “Get lost!”

Tang Silin screamed hysterically, a mix of shame and anger. This bastard!

“You’re so cheap. You used to be cold to me, and you’d even bite your lip and say nothing in bed. Now you don’t want to leave, huh?”

Xu Shaochen leaned in close to Tang Silin’s ear and whispered.

“Yes, I’m cheap. Are you satisfied now?”

Tang Silin gritted her teeth and stomped hard on Xu Shaochen’s foot.

She felt disgusted with herself, thinking she was truly despicable. Before, she wanted to leave but couldn’t. Now that Xu Shaochen was kicking her out, her first reaction was that she didn’t want to go.

She felt like she was mentally ill. Why else would she have this regretful thought? She needed to see a therapist when she got back.

“Alright, you two can flirt later. You, come with me.”

Jenny interrupted their interaction, speaking to Xu Shaochen.

    “What’s wrong?”

Xu Shaochen followed Jenny to the side.

“What’s going on in the lab? What are you trying to do? Do you know you’re playing with fire? If any of that gets out, you’ll become a thorn in the side of every country.”

Jenny looked at Xu Shaochen, her face filled with concern. The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt.

To be slightly ahead makes you a genius. To be a full step ahead makes you a madman.

Geniuses are accepted, but madmen get locked up in asylums.

Back when her father, Xu Shaochen’s grandfather, developed a cancer treatment drug, the Xu Corporation reached the pinnacle of the world.

That was the genius who was only half a step ahead.

But what Xu Shaochen was doing now would never be accepted by society. He was a full step ahead, a madman.

If their research was ever released to the world, Xu Shaochen would be eaten alive.

“Well, Aunt, it seems Grandpa did raise you well. You even know the phrase ‘thorn in the side’.”

    Xu Shaochen laughed carelessly.

“Be serious! I’m not joking with you.”

Jenny scolded, stamping her foot in frustration, a full display of a little girl’s temperament.

Xu Shaochen’s expression became serious too. “Aunt, do you think I’m an idiot? Until things are fully ready, everything will stay within the lab.”

“Then what exactly are you planning?” Jenny asked angrily. She felt her nephew was unbelievably unreliable.

Before coming here, she never would have imagined this lab was so extreme. More importantly, the research had made significant breakthroughs.

“I want to change the world. Do you believe me?”

    Xu Shaochen joked.

Jenny gave him a meaningful look. “Before, I would’ve brushed you off, but now I’m not so sure. Don’t do anything rash.”

If Xu Shaochen went rogue, his impact would be worse than a nuclear bomb.

    Not to mention,

Just look at that mutated rat in the lab. If a rat can mutate, what about cows? Tigers? Dogs?

If animals worldwide turned into that, it would be an unprecedented catastrophe.

“Relax, Aunt. I won’t do anything rash. Don’t you trust me?”

Xu Shaochen tried to calm her. If he had known, he wouldn’t have brought her here.

“Because it’s you, I don’t trust you at all.”

After thinking for a moment, Jenny said, “No, we need to increase security. I’ll pull three hundred people from the Xu Corporation Security Company.”

“Hey, this is my territory,” Xu Shaochen protested.

“I’m your aunt.” Jenny glared at him.

Well, Jenny certainly lived up to being raised in China. She’d mastered the art of using seniority to suppress others.

    Chapter Summary

Xu Shaochen oversees alarming genetic experiments with mutated animals. Chen Li enthusiastically describes research breakthroughs, including extending life. Jenny grows increasingly concerned, warning that their work could make Xu a global target. After a tense exchange with Tang Silin, Xu casually declares his intent to change the world, dismissing Jenny's concerns about security. Tang Silin reflects on her diminishing worth to Xu, while Jenny decides to increase security, showing her resolve that Xu's ambitions need limits before they spiral out of control.
