Chapter Index

“Don’t just sit there. Eat up. Fried foods don’t taste good once they’re cold.”

Since Xu Shaochen had refused, Zhang Liang didn’t press further and changed the topic.

“Yo, you’re eating here? Damn, I thought it was someone else, but isn’t this the school idol?”

At that moment, a young man in a silver suit with a side-parted hairstyle walked in. When he saw Xu Shaochen, he put on an exaggerated expression.

“Ma Fei, long time no see.” Xu Shaochen raised his head and smiled faintly at the young man in the silver suit.

Because Xu Shaochen was so handsome, he was always called the school idol back in the day. He felt a bit helpless about it because he wanted to keep a low profile. But his looks simply wouldn’t allow it.

However, Zhang Liang and Zhou Li both seemed a bit uncomfortable. Xu Shaochen noticed this and instantly understood.

This guy was the shameless old classmate Zhou Li had mentioned, who often came around to freeload.

“Tsk, tsk, Liangzi, playing favorites, huh? You never treated me like this when I came.”

Ma Fei pointed at Zhang Liang, looking somewhat reproachful, as he eyed all the snacks on the table.

Zhou Li was infuriated by his words. You don’t know when to stop, do you? Since the milk tea shop opened, he’d shown up at least three times a week, never once paying.

Normally, based on her temper, Zhou Li would have lashed out when she heard those words. But since Xu Shaochen was here, she held back for his sake.

“What’ve you been busy with these days?” Xu Shaochen moved his chair inward a bit to make space for Ma Fei.

Ma Fei sat down, and without any hesitation, started eating the food on the table. “I’ve been busy with a project, worth about forty to fifty million. When it’s done, I should pocket about a million in commission.”

“All these years, your looks have changed, but your love for bragging hasn’t.” Xu Shaochen laughed teasingly at Ma Fei.

Though Xu Shaochen called him out, Ma Fei wasn’t embarrassed. After all, that’s just the kind of person he was. He then asked, “And you? Still in college?”

“Sophomore year. Recently started a company to dabble in catering and real estate.” Xu Shaochen took a sip of milk tea and said casually.

Ma Fei was stunned by this, then looked at Xu Shaochen in disbelief. After a moment, he grinned, “Heh, you’ve got some nerve. Now you can out-brag even me.”

He didn’t take Xu Shaochen’s words seriously. After all, Xu Shaochen’s family was poorer than his, and he was still a student. How could he afford to start a company?

Moreover, he was dealing in real estate and catering. Those ventures require a significant upfront investment, which isn’t something just anyone can ‘play around’ with.

Zhang Liang and Zhou Li knew that Xu Shaochen wasn’t bragging. But seeing Ma Fei’s dismissive attitude, they chose not to explain.

Xu Shaochen merely chuckled without explaining. Some people wouldn’t believe you, no matter how much evidence you give.

After all, poverty had limited Ma Fei’s imagination.

After chatting for over half an hour, Xu Shaochen and Ma Fei got up to say their goodbyes.

“Where are you headed? Need a ride? I just got a new car last month.”

As they stepped out of the milk tea shop, Ma Fei pointed at a nearby white Volkswagen, shaking his keys proudly.

He was filled with a sense of satisfaction. So what if you were the school idol? So what if you got into Jiangzhou University? You’re still just a poor student now, while I’m already a car owner.

Even without a college degree, I’m doing better than you guys from prestigious schools.

Xu Shaochen was the big shot back when they were in school. Now, Ma Fei felt he had finally gone from being subdued to having his day of glory.

It wasn’t that he had any particular grudge against Xu Shaochen; he just wanted to show off a bit in front of an old classmate.

“No need. I also drove here.”

Xu Shaochen smiled faintly as he turned down the offer.

Ma Fei was taken aback, and then a thought crossed his mind. “No worries, just put your bike in my trunk. It should fit.”

He thought Xu Shaochen was riding a bicycle. After all, how could a college student afford a car?

    “Don’t forget about tomorrow’s gathering.”

Xu Shaochen didn’t know what to say. After leaving that line, he patted Ma Fei on the shoulder and walked toward the Mercedes parked by the roadside.

    “Boss.”

Long San stepped out of the car, bowed respectfully, and opened the back door for him.

    “This…this can’t be happening!”

Watching the Mercedes and Audi drive away, Ma Fei stood frozen for a long while, stunned.

Looking at the car keys in his hand and his own car parked nearby, he suddenly found it couldn’t look more annoying.

Reflecting on the earlier conversation at the milk tea shop, he finally realized that while he’d been bragging all along, Xu Shaochen had been telling the truth.

Ma Fei’s face turned alternately pale and purple. Remembering how Xu Shaochen had patted him on the shoulder, he suddenly felt it wasn’t just a pat, but a slap—one that stung.

He had intended to show off in front of an old classmate. Yet, not only did he fail, but he ended up being the fool. Xu Shaochen had outdone him in the past, and now, even more so.

“Hey! Wait, Officer, wait! I’m leaving immediately!”

When Ma Fei saw a police officer by his car writing a ticket, he quickly snapped out of it and rushed over anxiously.

“Didn’t you know you can’t park here? Enough with the excuses. Here’s a lesson for you.”

The officer said gruffly, sticking the ticket onto Ma Fei’s car.

“But why didn’t you ticket the Mercedes that was just here?”

Holding the glaring ticket, Ma Fei protested with a look of dissatisfaction.

“Are you dumb? You saw it was a Mercedes, right? And it left before I could write a ticket.”

The officer shot him a look as if he was an idiot, then tucked his pen away and walked off.

Leaving Ma Fei standing there in the wind, utterly disheveled.

    ………………

    9:00 PM.

    A Japanese restaurant.

Xu Shaochen and Liu Rushuang sat across from each other.

Tonight, Liu Rushuang had clearly dressed up. She was wearing a red strapless long dress, exuding an air of elegance and grace, like a blazing flame.

“Sister Rushuang, I have classes, so I can’t manage everything in the company. How about you become my secretary?”

Xu Shaochen ate a piece of tuna sashimi and looked at Liu Rushuang across from him.

“Keep dreaming. I make over twenty thousand a month as a manager.”

Liu Rushuang rolled her eyes flirtatiously and popped a piece of sushi into Xu Shaochen’s mouth.

    “Ah!”

Suddenly, she let out a surprised yelp, her face instantly turning beet red. Xu Shaochen had just sucked her finger into his mouth.

“What are you doing? Let go! You’re so annoying!”

Liu Rushuang scolded him softly, her face flushed. She could feel his teeth gently nibbling on her finger.

“I’ll give you forty thousand a month.”

Xu Shaochen released her finger and looked at her with a slight smile.

You make twenty thousand a month, so I’ll double it for you.

“Hmm, not bad. Alright then, given your sincerity, this lady will accept.”

Liu Rushuang let out a haughty humph. She had already made up her mind earlier but just wanted to give herself a legitimate excuse.
