Chapter Index

    After listening to Barron’s words.

    Xu Shaochen finally understood.

Yes, how could Grandfather have created this gigantic Xu Corporation within just a few decades? How could the core company, Xu Pharmaceutical, have developed several drugs targeting different kinds of cancer?

Starting from pharmaceuticals, he made breakthroughs, elevating Xu Corporation step by step.

No wonder Grandfather was so awesome. Turns out, he had a cheat!

As expected, a life with cheats is unbeatable, instantly crushing large enterprises that have been managed for generations.

“Mr. Barron, if my Grandfather has a jade piece for researching a life-extending drug, then why did you…”

Xu Shaochen suddenly thought of this. He was curious. If the R&D Department was working on this project, why did Barron complicate things?

“Xu, because your Grandfather and I had conflicting ideas about the research. But since the jade belongs to him, he stubbornly stuck to his theory. He was so unreasonable that I eventually quit.”

“I believe his research direction was wrong, and the facts prove it. Otherwise, why didn’t the drug succeed before he died? If only he had listened to me and changed his approach, we might’ve succeeded long ago.”

“I won’t touch the jade in the R&D Department. Not while he was alive, and even less so after his death, because it was his, and it represents the path he insisted on—even if it was the wrong one.”

“That’s why I’ve always been searching for another piece of jade, to lead the research in my own way.”

Barron’s tone fluctuated between excitement, calm, and melancholy.

Xu Shaochen could tell Barron had a deep relationship with his Grandfather, a very close one.

Otherwise, how would Barron know about the existence of the jade?

No wonder he handed over his shares to me so easily. It must have been because of my Grandfather.

Xu Shaochen felt guilty. He had tricked Barron with a fake jade.

    Wait! That’s not right.

How could Barron, who had seen the jade, not realize I gave him a counterfeit?

Thinking about it, Xu Shaochen asked in a roundabout way: “Mr. Barron, did you ever see or touch my Grandfather’s jade?”

“I only saw it through a glass case, but never touched it. Your Grandfather was quite stingy. He wouldn’t let me handle it, but the fact that he let me know about it and discuss it with me was already a show of trust.”

As Barron said this, a smile appeared on his face, eyes filled with memories, then turning melancholic.

Xu Shaochen finally understood. No wonder Barron didn’t realize the jade I gave him was fake—he had never gotten his hands on the real one.

“Mr. Barron, how many people in the company know about the existence of that jade?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Barron proudly replied: “Other than the group in the R&D Department studying the jade, I’m the only one in the entire company. Your Grandfather trusted only me.”

Xu Shaochen tugged at the corners of his lips. He wondered if his Grandfather would visit him in a dream to scold him for tricking his most trusted friend.

“Xu, I need to thank you. Without you, I wouldn’t have gotten the jade. The research has already made progress. I believe the drug will be developed soon.”

Barron looked at Xu Shaochen with gratitude, finally realizing his long-cherished goal.

Seeing Barron’s hopeful eyes, Xu Shaochen coughed and said awkwardly: “Uh, Mr. Barron… What if I told you that the jade I gave you is a fake?”

He felt guilty. Strictly speaking, Barron was like a senior to him. Tricking an elder felt wrong.

“No! It can’t be a fake! My research team has already made progress, so how could it be fake?”

Barron immediately rejected the claim, then suspiciously looked at Xu Shaochen: “Xu, you must want the jade back, don’t you? Well, I’m telling you, that’s impossible. I’m not giving it back, so don’t even think about it.”

“Besides, your Grandfather already had one jade piece. As his grandson, that’s yours, too. Why do you need mine?”

    Xu Shaochen: “………..”

Damn, I worked up the courage to confess just this once, and he doesn’t even believe me! What can I do? I’m also very desperate here.

“Mr. Barron, the jade I gave you really is a fake. You must believe me!”

Xu Shaochen looked at him sincerely. Who knows what crazy results Barron’s team would come up with by studying a counterfeit?

If Barron ends up in trouble, I’d be guilty of a terrible crime.

    “It’s real!” Barron declared firmly.

“It’s fake,” Xu Shaochen said helplessly. It’s hard to tell the truth these days.

    “It’s real!”

“Fine, you win. It’s real.” Xu Shaochen finally gave up. Why doesn’t anyone believe me when I’m honest?

Barron smirked triumphantly: “Xu, I’ve seen through your little trick now. You’re as sly as your Grandfather. But tough luck! I’ve learned from him and won’t fall for your tricks.”

    Xu Shaochen: “………..”

How badly must Grandfather have tricked him for him to be this wary?

“Xu, don’t worry. Once the drug is successful, I’ll invite you to take it first.”

    Barron said heroically.

    “Please don’t. I’m still young—I don’t need it.”

Xu Shaochen quickly waved his hand, mainly fearing that taking Barron’s drug might not enhance longevity but lead to an early death.

“Alright, you’re right. But one day you’ll grow old, and by then, you’ll need it.”

From this, it was clear how generous Barron was, making Xu Shaochen feel even more ashamed.

“Mr. Barron, when you perfect the drug, please don’t rush to take it. There’s too much uncertainty.”

Although Xu Shaochen knew Barron would probably hire others for testing first, he couldn’t help but warn him.

“Do I look like Henry, that idiot pig?”

Barron pointed to his own nose, feeling insulted.

    “Of course not.”

Xu Shaochen shook his head. No, you’re just a big pig.

Damn, I tell the truth and you still don’t believe me. Not a pig? Sure.

    Chapter Summary
