Chapter 877: Because That Day Won’t Be Far
by xennovel“This is Situ Wen, the Hongmen Mountain Lord.”
After introducing the three, Xu Shaochen introduced Situ Wen to them.
The three only nodded slightly in acknowledgment.
Situ Wen’s gaze lingered on Tony for a few seconds, knowing that while the root cause of the issue was Xu Shaochen, its escalation was Tony’s doing.
“Mr. Xu, I’ve come this time sacrificing my pride. I hope you’ll be merciful and let Hongmen have a chance.”
Situ Wen retracted his gaze and looked at Xu Shaochen, cupping his hands in respect.
Since Xu Shaochen was the source of the issue, he had no choice but to plead with him.
“That will never do.”
Xu Shaochen was horrified and quickly said, “Mr. Situ, what are you doing? This isn’t something a junior like me can bear.”
“Mr. Xu, I beg for your mercy.”
Situ Wen gritted his teeth and said. Given his age and status, this was the first time he had ever experienced such humiliation, seeking mercy from a youngster.
“Mr. Situ, you’re asking for mercy, but surely you should let me know what I’m being merciful about? I still haven’t figured out what’s going on.”
Xu Shaochen said helplessly, making it sound like he was genuinely clueless.
“Mr. Xu, Hongmen doesn’t have many business operations to rely on, and recently, we’ve been constantly harassed by the police and tax authorities, not to mention targeted by other firms. If this continues, Hongmen’s thousands of brothers will be left starving in the Northwest wind.”
Situ Wen felt both helpless and powerless. This wasn’t the chaotic era of the past where guns and numbers were enough.
Now, it’s all about money and capital.
And Xu Shaochen controlled that capital.
“Tony, is this true?”
Xu Shaochen looked at Tony in surprise, as though he was hearing about this for the first time.
Tony sneered. “It must be some meddling fools poking their noses where they don’t belong. I’ll handle it when I get back.”
“Thank you, Mr. Tony, for your generosity.”
Situ Wen expressed his gratitude to Tony.
“Mr. Situ, I truly had no idea this was happening. If I’d known, I’d never have let it come to this.”
Xu Shaochen clasped Situ Wen’s hand, his face full of guilt and apology.
Hypocrisy.
Everyone present silently cursed the same thought in their hearts.
Situ Wen also knew Xu Shaochen’s words were nonsense, but he still played along, saying, “Mr. Xu is busy with countless matters. It’s no surprise such trivial things slipped past his notice. I am the one who’s truly sorry for bothering you today.”
“Xu, are all you Chinese this hypocritical? I swear, that old man is cursing you in his heart.”
The polite atmosphere was abruptly interrupted by an untimely voice.
It was Jim, grinning as if he’d just cracked the best joke.
Tony and Mike silently cursed him as an idiot. Clearly, Jim didn’t understand the limits of appropriate humor.
Or had he simply grown too arrogant?
Situ Wen’s expression froze for a moment, but he didn’t dare say anything. After all, even he couldn’t afford to cross Jim.
“Does this concern you? Do you really know anything about us Chinese?”
Xu Shaochen released Situ Wen’s hand, turning to Jim and speaking calmly.
Jim was taken aback. “Xu, aren’t we friends? Can’t I even make a little joke?”
“Friends? You’re nothing. Are you even worthy? Take a good look in the mirror. Forget your worldview. Even your face is unpleasant to look at.”
Xu Shaochen mocked him mercilessly, his eyes filled with disdain and scorn.
Xu Shaochen despised hearing remarks with even a hint of discrimination against the Chinese.
Besides, since they were already tearing apart their relations with the Johnson Family, there was no need to keep up any more charades with this fool.
Jim’s face darkened as he coldly glared at Xu Shaochen. “Xu, are you sure you know what you’re saying?”
“What? Are you so daft that you can’t understand human speech?” Xu Shaochen shot back.
“F*** you! Xu, you’ll pay for those words!”
Jim pointed at Xu Shaochen, his voice seething with anger.
Xu Shaochen responded with a cold, mocking laugh. “This is just about the new drug, right? The Xu Corporation is huge and can afford the losses. You want it? Consider it my gift to you.”
At this point, Xu Shaochen paused before adding, “After all, I don’t mind sparing a little change for dogs.”
Tony and Mike exchanged glances, surprised that even now, Xu Shaochen could lie so boldly.
With this, Jim would be even less likely to suspect that batch of drugs was problematic.
In fact, in his revenge, Jim might even ramp up production. The more they produced, the greater their eventual loss.
“Shit! Just wait, I’ll make you regret this.”
Jim spat bitterly, throwing his golf club to the ground and storming off without looking back.
“Xu, I must say, you went too far.”
Mike and Tony said this to Xu Shaochen before following after Jim.
They had to keep up appearances.
After all, Jim was still unaware that they had already struck a deal with Xu Shaochen. Lowering his guard was essential to striking the decisive blow later.
“Mr. Xu, I… I apologize.”
Situ Wen still hadn’t fully processed what had just happened. After a long pause, he looked at Xu Shaochen, face full of apology.
“Mr. Situ, this has nothing to do with you. I just really dislike being casually humiliated. I won’t tolerate fools jumping around in my presence.”
Xu Shaochen waved his hand with a calm tone.
Hearing that, Situ Wen forced a bitter smile. “Mr. Xu, you’re of noble status, so you may encounter such things. But if you were just an ordinary person, I’m sure you wouldn’t be as angry.”
“You’d grow accustomed to such humiliation. Discrimination from all sides would overwhelm you, until you’re too tired to fight back, and you become numb to it.”
“China may have risen internationally, but for Chinese people abroad, things haven’t improved much. Discrimination is still too common.”
Xu Shaochen paused, then spread his arms, speaking with an unprecedented seriousness: “That’s why, at one point, I told someone that I want to change the world.”
Situ Wen was stunned. He then shook his head, smiling skeptically. The ambitions of youth knew no bounds.
Change the world?
Heh, better head to bed soon.
“You don’t believe me?” Xu Shaochen asked, looking at Situ Wen.
Situ Wen forced a smile. “Mr. Xu, it’s a beautiful dream, but I must say… Your goal is a bit grandiose.”
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe. I’ll show you. That day won’t be far away.”
Xu Shaochen smiled faintly, his tone light and carefree.
For a split second, Situ Wen felt a momentary daze. Suddenly, he had a strong sense that this young man might actually carry through with his words.
Then he shook his head again, feeling he’d lost his mind for even entertaining such a notion.
