Chapter Index

    “Really?”

Xu Shaochen immediately sat up straight, removing his hand from Jenny’s leg and focusing on the documents.

Jenny was a bit surprised. Was it that my legs aren’t attractive enough or my skin isn’t smooth enough?

You’re actually more interested in those documents? Are they more appealing than me?

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

Noticing Jenny’s gaze, Xu Shaochen asked, perplexed.

“Nothing, just a bit curious; you can ignore me.”

Jenny shook her head as she spoke.

    “Crazy.”

Xu Shaochen muttered under his breath, then returned his focus to the documents and blueprints in his hands.

It took Xu Shaochen a full half hour to finish reading the rough plan and sketches.

After reading, he only had one feeling…

As an outsider, he couldn’t understand.

But it seemed pretty good. Since it was a professional matter, it was still best left to the professionals.

Xu Shaochen immediately made a call to Song Shicheng, telling him to freely proceed and do as he saw fit, as long as it met the original requirements.

Song Shicheng felt invigorated. This meant he had enough authority and autonomy to boldly implement his ideas on this major project.

“How’s the preparation for the new drug release going?”

After hanging up the call, Xu Shaochen started playing with Jenny’s long legs again while discussing business.

“Everything’s running smoothly. Initially, the sales will be affected by the Johnson Family’s fake drugs, but once their product causes problems, our sales will rebound and double.”

“With the influence of public opinion, the reputation of our Xu Corporation will rise to another level, and the stock market will surely see a sharp increase.”

As Jenny spoke, her eyes sparkled. She couldn’t wait to watch the Johnson Family face the consequences of their actions.

    “I’m confident in your work.”

Xu Shaochen patted her as a sign of encouragement, though where he patted was a bit playful.

Jenny shot him a shy and annoyed glance but didn’t say anything.

The atmosphere between them felt a bit strange.

The living room was eerily quiet.

Xu Shaochen had a feeling that if things continued this way, everything would progress as expected.

    “Ding ding ding…”

Suddenly, the shrill sound of a phone ringing broke the awkward atmosphere.

Xu Shaochen cursed inwardly and grabbed his phone, seeing that it was a call from Mike.

Taking a deep breath, Xu Shaochen suppressed the urge to swear and answered in the calmest tone he could muster: “Mike, what’s the matter calling this late?”

“Xu, what are you talking about? Late? You’re a young, energetic guy; how can it feel late? Come out, we’ve gathered a few friends to introduce to you, plus we’ll have a couple of drinks.”

Mike’s voice was loud and the sound of lively music in the background suggested he was at a bar.

“Fine, where are you? I’ll head over right away.”

Xu Shaochen was a bit helpless. Since they were in the honeymoon period of their relationship, he couldn’t really decline.

Mike gave him a location, then reminded him to hurry before hanging up.

“Sorry, I need to head out. If Weiwei and the others come back, let them know.”

Xu Shaochen said to Jenny, sighing inwardly. Damn Mike, if not for your call, I could have made further progress with your goddess just now.

“It’s fine if you don’t come back tonight.”

    Jenny spoke kindly, smiling sweetly.

“I’ll definitely be back before midnight.”

Xu Shaochen responded firmly, suddenly alert.

“Don’t push yourself too hard. I understand that it’s all just acting.”

Jenny continued, her voice still as tender as water.

Xu Shaochen shook his head vigorously like a rattle: “I swear, I won’t touch any other women.”

    “Go ahead.”

    Jenny nodded slightly.

Xu Shaochen breathed a sigh of relief, grabbed his jacket, and headed out.

Men really have it too hard.

    ………

    Twenty minutes later.

Outside a bar that had a string of English letters on its sign.

After confirming the location, Xu Shaochen walked in alone.

“Hey, Xu, you got here fast.”

Just as Xu Shaochen was looking around to find Mike,

Mike suddenly appeared, dancing with a hot girl with a fiery figure.

“You scared me. When the big boss calls, of course I have to get here quickly.”

Xu Shaochen joked, giving him a playful punch on the chest.

The woman glanced at Xu Shaochen, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. Being so chummy with Mike meant Xu Shaochen’s status wasn’t ordinary.

“Like her? Want to have a go?”

Mike pushed the woman toward Xu Shaochen.

“No thanks, Mike, I’m not interested.”

“Hey, Xu, she’s not just any bar girl. She’s a movie star. Haven’t you seen her films?”

Mike looked at Xu Shaochen in disbelief, thinking he might have misunderstood the woman’s identity.

“Sorry, I don’t watch that many movies.”

Hearing that, Xu Shaochen gave the woman an actual look. Even by Chinese standards, she was indeed very beautiful.

But sadly, even this goddess adored by countless fans was just a plaything in Mike’s eyes.

    “Alright, let’s head over.”

Hearing this, Mike said no more, draping his arm around Xu Shaochen’s shoulder and leading him toward a booth.

There, four or five guys and several women were having a great time. One of them was Tony. The other three, Xu Shaochen didn’t know.

They were probably the friends Mike had mentioned introducing to him.

    “Did you invite Jim?”

Xu Shaochen frowned and asked. If Jim wasn’t invited, he’d definitely be upset when he found out, which could cause unnecessary complications.

“Xu, don’t insult my intelligence.” Mike said indignantly: “I called him, and specifically mentioned you’d be here, so he chose not to come.”

Xu Shaochen nodded. That was good. Better safe than sorry.

“Hey, everyone, look who’s here! Let me introduce you to Xu.”

Mike exaggeratedly called out as he brought Xu Shaochen to the group.

“Hello, nice to meet you. I’m Kate.”

    “I’m Jack.”

    “I’m Fils.”

The three stood up and greeted Xu Shaochen, all very polite, clearly aware of Xu Shaochen’s status.

Xu Shaochen nodded slightly at the trio: “Likewise, nice to meet you.”

“Sit down.” Mike led Xu Shaochen to sit, then said, “Xu, you’re the last one to arrive. Making us wait means you have to drink as punishment.”

    “Sure, fair enough.”

Xu Shaochen smiled, downed the drink in one gulp.

“Hey! Fils! Since when did you start hanging out with yellow-skinned monkeys? Quite the surprise.”

Suddenly, an inappropriate voice interrupted the group.
