Chapter Index

“Damn it! How could this happen!”

Sam exploded, his eyes bloodshot and sunken, having not slept the entire night.

“There must be a problem with the formula! Otherwise, why did our drug have issues while Xu Corporation’s drug had none?”

Jim calmly analyzed, but every word seemed to make his teeth grind, and his heart bled with every syllable.

Everyone knew they had been played.

Played by Xu Shaochen, played by Peter Jr., played by Xu Corporation.

They did make a lot of money, sure.

But if they couldn’t handle this matter properly, the profits couldn’t possibly cover the losses coming their way.

Everyone else wore grim faces, their hair a mess like a bird’s nest; not a single person spoke.

“Quick! Quick, we need to hold a press conference. We must take a stance immediately. We can’t let the situation keep snowballing.”

Sam calmed down, beginning to devise a plan of action.

    Tap tap tap tap…

At that moment, the sound of footsteps echoed as a bodyguard walked in.

“Sir, someone outside claims to be a lawyer from Xu Corporation’s legal department. He personally delivered a legal notice.”

The bodyguard spoke to Sam respectfully.

“A legal notice? Xu Corporation is suing us? Hahaha! Idiots! They’re too stupid! If they sue us for patent infringement now, doesn’t that indirectly confirm the formula is real?”

“We produced drugs based on their leaked formula, and now there are incidents. If they sue us now, aren’t they admitting some responsibility too?”

Jim burst into laughter, tears almost coming out, as the gloom in his heart completely lifted.

Xu Shaochen, oh Xu Shaochen, it seems I overestimated you. Our failure this time is merely because of your good luck.

    “Quick, invite him in.”

Sam had also realized this, even using the word ‘please’.

Soon, the lawyer from Xu Corporation’s legal department entered.

“Mr. Sam, I represent Xu Corporation’s legal department and formally notify you that your company must immediately suspend the use of ‘Clear Brain Capsules’ and Xu Corporation’s packaging. Furthermore, compensation is required, or we will file a lawsuit to pursue legal liability…”

After entering, the lawyer directly stated the purpose of his visit in a formal, official tone.

The smiles on the faces of Jim, Sam, and the others gradually faded and, in the end, completely hardened.

Initially, they thought Xu Corporation was suing them for patent infringement of the formula.

But it turned out the other party was suing over the drug’s name, packaging, and trademarks.

With so many drugs sold already, they knew they would lose the lawsuit for sure. The compensation would have to be paid, no matter what.

For the Johnson Family, this was undoubtedly adding insult to injury.

    “Bang!”

Sam, unable to bear it any longer, grabbed the cup on the table and threw it at the lawyer standing before him.

The cup shattered on the lawyer’s forehead, splitting into pieces, and blood immediately flowed down his face.

    “Get out!!!”

    Sam roared in anger.

“Mr. Sam, this is the official notice from our side.”

The lawyer’s expression remained unchanged. He calmly placed the lawsuit notice on the table and left unhurriedly.

In Mg Country, being a lawyer was a highly esteemed profession. A skilled lawyer could be a VIP guest for many wealthy people.

As the lawyer left, the entire living room fell into an eerie silence.

    “Bang!” “Crash!”

In a fit of rage, Sam overturned everything on the table to the ground. His efficiency could rival that of a certain computer software — the 360 Desktop Cleaner.

“Father, getting angry won’t help. Right now, we need to hold a press conference as soon as possible, push out a scapegoat to appease the public, and claim we will compensate those affected by the drug. Also, we must announce that we will buy back all sold drugs at double the price to stabilize public opinion first. We can’t let things escalate any further.”

“Also, we need to contact the relevant departments and website administrators to swiftly delete online posts and block the people spreading this. In China, there’s a saying for guiding public sentiment. We can’t let ill-intentioned people guide public sentiment.”

Jim, who had the qualifications of a well-educated elite — after all, he had attended kindergarten — spoke with clear logic and reason, making his stance convincing.

    “Huu—”

Sam exhaled deeply, tiredly waving his hand: “Do as you say. I’ll call a few old acquaintances.”

With such a big incident, the government would definitely react and investigate to hold them accountable.

Though they had some influence in politics, Mg Country was too big. Not all politicians were under their control.

    “Yes, Father.”

Jim responded confidently. Despite the current crises hitting the Johnson Family, he saw an opportunity for himself.

Now that his father was entrusting him with handling these issues, if he managed well, everyone would see his competence.

At that point, his voice and power in the family would undoubtedly grow.

Jim made several phone calls while standing there.

In less than ten minutes, his phone began to ring.

After finishing the call, Jim’s face turned livid, as if it could drip water at any moment.

    “What happened?”

Someone asked curiously, with everyone feeling an ominous premonition.

Jim gritted his teeth and said, “Bad news. Out of more than ten major, influential websites, only two are willing to help us control public opinion.”

“Fuck! Shit! How dare they? Those bastards have gone mad!”

“Damn it, they better be ready for our brutal retaliation!”

    “Those assholes…”

Everyone was furious. The Johnson Family had enormous wealth and influence, so they never paid attention to these website operators.

Now, those very operators dared to refuse them. It was outrageous and belittled their status.

    Sam frowned, remaining silent.

    Then his phone rang.

After answering, his expression grew uglier. Before he could speak, the phone rang again.

Every time he finished a call, his face darkened further, until eventually it was as black as the bottom of a pot.

“Someone’s targeting us. The government just held a meeting about the situation, and all our suggestions were either opposed or rejected.”

“It’s either the Nick Family or the Karen Family.”

Jim blurted out. The three families — Johnson, Nick, and Karen — were the three major political families in Mg Country.

Without one of the other two taking the lead, no one else would dare to oppose the Johnson Family.

“Worse still, this time the Nick and Karen families have joined forces.”

Sam nodded, his teeth gritted tightly, veins bulging on his hand gripping the phone.
