Chapter 9: Treating My Roommates to a Feast

“You… you… Why are you back today?”

Liu Ruxu’s face turned bright red as she hid behind Xu Shaochen, looking at Liu Rushuang in a panic.

“Sis… Oh well, forget it. Let’s talk after you’ve put on some clothes.”

Liu Rushuang’s face also turned red. She left with just that one line, quickly shutting the bathroom door, feeling utterly embarrassed inside.

Seriously, why did her sister bring a man home? And besides, that guy looked several years younger than her. Pretty boy.

“Um, Lil’ Shuang, our clothes are in the bedroom. Could you help us grab them?”

Liu Ruxu’s voice came from inside the bathroom. Liu Rushuang stomped her foot in annoyance and stormed into Liu Ruxu’s bedroom.

“Ugh, shameless.”

Seeing the pile of mixed male and female clothes on the floor, Liu Rushuang muttered in annoyance, her face flushed red as she picked up the clothes and walked out.

Ten minutes later…

Living room.

Liu Rushuang sat alone on one side. Liu Ruxu and Xu Shaochen sat on the other. None of them spoke, and the atmosphere was rather awkward.

“Um, Lil’ Shuang, weren’t you supposed to be on a business trip today? Why did you suddenly come back?” After a long silence, Liu Ruxu finally broke the ice.

Liu Rushuang glanced at Xu Shaochen. “The company sent someone else. Sis, is this your boyfriend?”

“No… just a regular friend,” Liu Ruxu whispered softly, her face as red as a tomato.

Liu Rushuang rolled her eyes. A ‘regular friend’ who you bring home to sleep with?

“Liu Jie, I’m heading out now. Let’s stay in touch.”

Xu Shaochen couldn’t bear to stay in that atmosphere any longer. After speaking, he quickly got up and left.

After Xu Shaochen left, Liu Rushuang asked seriously, “Sis, what are you thinking? That guy looks several years younger than you.”

“Oh, come on, stop being so uptight. Not everyone is an eternal virgin like you. I haven’t been with a man for more than half a year. Can’t I just let loose a bit?!” Liu Ruxu retorted, no longer holding back since it was just the two sisters.

Liu Rushuang pouted but grew curious inside. Is doing that really that enjoyable? ……

“Sigh!”

Outside the apartment complex, Xu Shaochen sighed in frustration. His romance had been going so well, only for Liu Rushuang to ruin it. There was no way he could feel good about it.

Checking the time, it was 3 PM. He hadn’t eaten anything since morning, as he was too busy with wedding preparations for the Jiang Family. Then that whole mess at noon further spoiled his mood. Now his stomach was growling from hunger.

“The Jiang Family? The Li Family? Hmph.”

A cold glint flashed in Xu Shaochen’s eyes. Today’s humiliation… he would make them pay back tenfold or even a hundredfold.

Taking out his phone, Xu Shaochen called his three roommates, inviting them out for a meal.

The four of them had a close relationship. The other three knew Xu Shaochen’s family situation was tough, so they often helped him out. Now that he had some money, he naturally wanted to treat his brothers to a grand meal.

About twenty minutes later, Xu Shaochen arrived at the entrance of Jiangzhou University in a taxi.

Seeing Xu Shaochen get out of the car, the three guys chatting at the gate—Li Qi, Liu Chao, and Zhou Fan—quickly walked over.

“What’s up with you? You’ve been all mysterious these past couple of days, disappeared early this morning, and now you’re treating us to a feast? Did you rob a bank or something?!”

Zhou Fan jumped up and grabbed Xu Shaochen’s neck, teasing him but with a hint of genuine concern.

After all, Xu Shaochen had been acting a bit off these past couple of days, making the three of them worried.

“Yep, totally robbed a bank. Let’s go.” Xu Shaochen rolled his eyes, prying Zhou Fan off himself before leading the way to the taxi.

Was he supposed to tell them he’d gone and gotten married, only for his bride to jump into another man’s arms at the wedding, and that he’d been kicked out?

The three obviously knew he was joking, but still exchanged looks before following him. They couldn’t shake the feeling that something about Xu Shaochen had changed.

“Shaochen, where are we going to eat? Just find a spot off-campus. We don’t need to take a cab.” Liu Chao furrowed his brows as he spoke. Knowing Xu Shaochen’s situation, he wanted to help save as much as possible.

“Yeah, even the school dining hall would do.”

Zhou Fan and Li Qi chimed in as well, not wanting to hurt Xu Shaochen’s pride but hoping to choose a cheaper place.

Xu Shaochen told the driver, “Sir, please take us to Longteng Grand Hotel.”

“Holy crap, you really did rob a bank!”

The three couldn’t help but blurt out, eyes wide as they stared at Xu Shaochen.

Longteng Grand Hotel was a five-star hotel. Dining there would cost at least four digits. It was no wonder they were so shocked.

In the taxi, the three didn’t ask any more questions, waiting until they got out to grab Xu Shaochen. “Stop kidding! Where did you get the money to treat us?”

“Relax, do you really think I robbed a bank? I inherited a sum of money from my grandfather.” Xu Shaochen felt a warm current run through his heart at their concern.

Hearing this, the three let out a sigh of relief. They didn’t ask how much Xu Shaochen had inherited and followed him into the hotel.

Entering the Longteng Grand Hotel, the boys were in awe. Xu Shaochen was a bit more accustomed to such places, having been to Jiangzhou Grand Hotel before, but Zhou Fan, Liu Chao, and Li Qi were visiting a place like this for the first time. They were both nervous and curious.

The four went straight to the restaurant on the third floor. Since private rooms required reservations, they had to dine in the main dining area.

Luckily, there weren’t any rude security guards or servers looking down on them. After all, a place of this caliber had staff with a basic level of decency. Even if they did look down on you, they wouldn’t show it.

“Good afternoon, gentlemen. Here’s today’s menu.”

A tall service attendant approached with the menu. The menu at Longteng rotated daily, so it was different each day.

“Um… You pick.”

Zhou Fan, Liu Chao, and Li Qi were clearly out of their element, their hands not knowing what to do. They left the decision to Xu Shaochen.

“French cuisine?” Xu Shaochen was slightly surprised when he looked at the menu.

The attendant smiled, “Yes, sir. Today’s menu features French cuisine.”

“Then we’ll take a set of this for each of us.” Xu Shaochen ordered the high-end set menu without hesitation. Each set cost 3,888 yuan. But with money in hand, he didn’t mind splurging.

“Very well. Please wait a moment, gentlemen.”

The attendant bowed slightly to them and left with the menu.

“How much did it cost?” As soon as the attendant left, Zhou Fan, Liu Chao, and Li Qi quickly asked.

Xu Shaochen smiled calmly, “Not much. The total will be a bit over ten thousand.”

“Hiss—”

The three of them collectively sucked in a breath and gave Xu Shaochen a thumbs-up. What a boss, coming in with that much swagger.

Still, they were genuinely happy for Xu Shaochen. They understood his situation well. At least now, Xu Shaochen’s mother’s medical expenses were covered, and he wouldn’t have to worry about money in the future.

And honestly, what’s it like having a rich friend?
