Chapter Index

“Th-this… Shit! What are you doing? Let him go right now!”

Vincent froze as soon as he entered the bar. Then, in a fit of rage, he pulled out his gun and aimed it at Long Yi and Long Er.

    “Brother… save me, save me.”

The moment Jason saw Vincent, he burst into tears as if grabbing onto a lifeline.

Because he’d swallowed too many fragments and hurt his mouth, his speech was a bit slurred.

However, Long Yi and Long Er simply glanced at Vincent and continued doing their own thing, completely ignoring him.

“Damn it! Stop! Bastards, didn’t you hear what I said?!”

    “Bang!”

Seeing himself being ignored, Vincent yelled and fired a shot at the ceiling in warning.

    “Shh!”

In the next instant, over twenty guns were pointed at Vincent and the two officers with him.

The two junior officers behind Vincent turned pale, their hands shaking as they held their guns.

After all, this was Meiguo. It wasn’t uncommon for police officers to be shot and killed here.

In this situation, if they made one wrong move, they’d probably lose their lives.

“What… what are you doing? Are you trying to attack the police?!”

Vincent looked calm on the surface, but inside he was panicking, cold sweat dripping down his forehead.

In his entire career, he’d never encountered such a thrilling situation.

“Jason is right there. Didn’t you come to discuss something with him? Go ahead, talk. Don’t mind us.”

Xu Shaochen walked over and put a hand on Vincent’s shoulder, smiling warmly at him.

It was only then that Vincent realized Xu Shaochen was the leader of this group.

“Sir, calm down. Have your men put their guns down. In any country, attacking the police is a serious crime. Whatever it is, I’m sure we can sit down and talk it out, don’t you think?”

Vincent tried his best to appear calm, speaking to Xu Shaochen in a peaceful tone to prevent further escalation.

    “Clomp, clomp, clomp…”

At that moment, Chen Tao led a group of a dozen or so women down the stairs. They were all dressed attractively, but on closer inspection, each had bruises on their arms or legs.

“Do you know about this? These women were trafficked here and forced into prostitution by your brother.”

Xu Shaochen wrapped his arm around Vincent’s neck, pointing at Chen Tao and the women.

Vincent pressed his lips together. He was starting to understand the reason behind all of this.

He almost instinctively shook his head: “No, I didn’t know. I thought he was running a legitimate business. I never imagined he’d do something like this.”

If he admitted to knowing and receiving profits from it, he’d likely meet the same fate as his brother in the very next moment.

“Vincent!” Jason glared at Vincent, eyes blazing with anger, even dropping the honorific of ‘brother’.

Back when they were splitting the profits, this guy never missed a cut. But now, when trouble has surfaced, he wants to wash his hands of everything.

    Absolutely delusional.

“Shut up! Doing something like this tarnishes the reputation of our family. If Father finds out, he won’t forgive you either!”

Vincent berated Jason in a fit of rage, fully expressing the disappointment of an older brother with a delinquent sibling.

Xu Shaochen simply watched the two brothers’ performance.

After a while, Xu Shaochen patted Vincent’s shoulder: “According to your Meiguo laws, what would the sentence be for this kind of crime?”

“L-life in prison.” Vincent stammered, knowing there’s no death penalty in Meiguo.

Xu Shaochen shook his head and seriously offered his advice: “I think life in prison is far too lenient. Since you’re a police officer and didn’t collude with him, why not take this opportunity to turn him in? Kill him and you’ll be hailed as a hero for solving the case.”

Boom! These words struck Vincent and Jason like a lightning bolt.

Neither of them expected Xu Shaochen to come up with such a ruthless plan, forcing Vincent to execute his own brother.

“Th-th-this…” Vincent’s forehead was drenched in cold sweat, and he couldn’t string together a proper sentence.

Xu Shaochen’s eyes bore into him: “What, don’t dare? Feeling guilty? Or are you saying you really did collude with him?”

“No! I-I didn’t! There’s no way I would ever collude with that scumbag! I am a police officer!”

Vincent reflexively denied it with all his strength.

“Shit! You bastard, Vincent! You’ve been taking your cut from me…”

Jason cursed, fuming at those words.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Before Jason could finish, Vincent fired three shots, each one lethal.

    “You…”

Jason looked at Vincent in disbelief before swallowing his last breath, full of reluctance.

“He… he was trying to frame me.”

Vincent, with trembling hands, looked unnaturally at Xu Shaochen, so shaken that he dropped his gun.

When he heard Jason trying to drag him down, Vincent panicked, blood rushing to his head, and pulled the trigger without thinking.

Jason’s henchmen all turned pale. None of them thought Vincent would actually kill his own brother.

After all, they knew very well that Vincent and Jason were in cahoots, each holding a share in this bar.

Vincent killed Jason to silence him.

For a moment, the atmosphere turned suffocating; everyone knew of the two brothers’ conspiracy.

“Yeah, he tried to frame you. But you, without hesitation, carried out justice. This shows you’re a righteous officer.”

Xu Shaochen patted Vincent on the shoulder, his face full of admiration.

“I-it’s just my duty. I have to be true to my profession.”

Vincent forced a smile, his already pale complexion turning even whiter.

“You’re a good cop. You’ll go to heaven and meet God when you die. Your brother, on the other hand, will go to hell and meet the devil.”

Xu Shaochen smiled as he spoke.

“Yes, I’m sure I’ll go to heaven after I die because I’m righteous. It’s my brother who’s wicked.”

Vincent echoed Xu Shaochen’s words, nodding to everything he said. All he wanted was to get out of this nightmare as quickly as possible.

“I’m not too sure about you going to heaven. How about we run an experiment? I’ll send you on your way, and you can come back in a dream to tell me whether you’re in heaven or hell. How’s that sound?”

Xu Shaochen looked kindly at Vincent, smiling warmly, his eyes full of sincerity.

    Vincent’s face froze.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Three more shots echoed. Vincent collapsed to the ground, his eyes wide open, still clinging to life for a moment longer.

Xu Shaochen looked down at him from above, smiling faintly: “Don’t forget. Once you know whether it’s heaven or hell, make sure to tell me in a dream.”
