Chapter Index

Zheng Bei looked at the excited four and revealed a satisfied smile.

    “Good, I didn’t misjudge you.”

“Rest assured, I wouldn’t do anything I’m not confident in. You are all talents I personally cultivated. I would never joke with your lives.”

“The entire city of Mexico is under lockdown. It looks strict, yet it’s giving us an opportunity, allowing us to catch them off guard…”

Zheng Bei began to elaborate on his plan, painting a rosy picture for the four, promising them all sorts of benefits.

But in reality, whether the plan succeeded or not, Zheng Bei had no intention of letting the four live.

He didn’t want anyone to have evidence that he’d orchestrated the assassination of Xu Shaochen.

Otherwise, not only would the Xu Corporation not spare him, but neither the Mexican government nor his father-in-law’s Duoxiao Group would let him off either.

By then, there wouldn’t be a place for him in the world.

His return to Mexico had been kept secret from everyone, so the fact that he masterminded Xu Shaochen’s assassination was known only to these four.

To keep things confidential, all he had to do was eliminate these four. Simple as that.

The four young men, immersed in the excitement of being part of a major event, had no idea they were destined to be discarded.

    ……………

    Nighttime.

Chale sent a car to pick up Xu Shaochen for the banquet.

Naturally, Nika would accompany him as his female companion.

Xu Shaochen was the last to arrive. By the time he got there, all the guests for the evening had already gathered.

In addition to Chale, several government officials were present as well, indicating their high regard for Xu Shaochen.

“Come, everyone! Let’s welcome Xu Shaochen—Mr. Xu!”

Chale welcomed Xu Shaochen with a wide smile.

    “Clap, clap, clap, clap…”

Suddenly, thunderous applause erupted throughout the courtyard.

    “Mr. Xu, welcome to Mexico.”

    “Good evening, Mr. Xu.”

    Everyone greeted Xu Shaochen enthusiastically.

In a corner of the courtyard, a group of young men and women were gathered.

“Quite the big shot. All these people are here just for him.”

“Heh, he’s the richest man in the world. All thanks to having a good grandfather who left him such a fortune.”

The group exchanged mocking remarks, their eyes filled with disdain as they looked at Xu Shaochen.

As peers, they were naturally displeased that Xu Shaochen had hogged all the attention.

They weren’t tactful people. After all, if they had any real skill, they wouldn’t be idling away their days at this age.

Real second-generation entrepreneurs and elites were either running businesses themselves or building foundations in politics by now.

Only these incompetent heirs spent their days indulging in debauchery.

“Mr. Xu, how about saying a few words?”

    Chale said to Xu Shaochen.

“Yes, Mr. Xu, say a few words. Xu Shaochen gracing us with his presence in Mexico is truly an honor. Since it’s such a rare occasion, how can we miss out on hearing him share some valuable business insights?”

“Well said! Mr. Xu, say a few words!”

    “Clap, clap, clap…”

Urged on by the crowd, Xu Shaochen stepped onto the stage and began his speech…

Chale had already discussed the matter with him beforehand, so that it wouldn’t seem like a surprise ambush. This way, both sides saved face.

Thus, Xu Shaochen had prepared in advance and naturally spoke without any pressure.

“Mr. Xu, I’m sorry to interrupt, but I have a question.”

Suddenly, an inappropriate voice interrupted Xu Shaochen’s speech.

Everyone turned their gaze toward a corner.

In the corner, a young man in a white suit stood with a carefree smile on his face.

Xu Shaochen frowned. Didn’t this young man know it was rude to interrupt someone’s moment in the spotlight?

Though he was annoyed, his expression remained calm: “Go ahead, ask.”

“People say that Mexico is heavily impacted by drugs. As long as drugs exist, there’s no talk of development. Mr. Xu, what are your thoughts on this?”

The young man gazed at Xu Shaochen and spoke in a calm tone.

As his voice fell, the temperature in the courtyard seemed to drop a few degrees. The expressions of the people turned sour.

It was obvious the young man was deliberately making things difficult for Xu Shaochen.

Because no matter how Xu Shaochen answered, he would offend someone—either the Mexican government or the Duoxiao.

Xu Shaochen’s expression also changed slightly, and he glanced at Nika.

“Who is this guy? Doesn’t he fear for his life?” Xu Shaochen thought.

Nika quietly approached and explained, “He’s the youngest son of the former president, Taji. His older brothers are all in the military.”

The former president’s identity wasn’t important; many former Mexican presidents had been killed by Duoxiao. What mattered was that his brothers held military power.

No wonder he dared to openly stir up conflict.

Taji looked at Xu Shaochen with a disdainful smile. He couldn’t stand Xu Shaochen’s confident demeanor, as if everyone had to bow down before him.

“Once upon a time, I was always the center of attention at these kinds of events. But today, I’ve been relegated to a mere background character. This stark change was something Taji found hard to accept.”

Xu Shaochen smiled and said lightly, “As for that question, I use my eyes to see. Does that answer satisfy you, Young Master Taji?”

    Woosh—

Everyone let out a sigh of relief. Avoiding the question was definitely the best answer.

Only a fool would dare touch that topic.

“Mr. Xu, is that even an answer?” But Taji wasn’t willing to let Xu Shaochen off so easily.

Xu Shaochen chuckled, “Young Master Taji, I don’t think there’s much point in discussing this with you. If your father were here, perhaps I’d be inclined to say something more meaningful.”

The implication was, “Who do you think you are? You’re not qualified to talk to me. Now, go cool off somewhere else.”

    “You…”

Taji’s face turned blue with rage. He hadn’t expected Xu Shaochen to insult him so brazenly.

    “Taji, you’re drunk.”

Chale quickly stepped forward, his face extremely displeased as he scolded.

    “Damn it!”

Taji glared at Xu Shaochen, muttered a curse, and then sat back down.

“Mr. Xu, I sincerely apologize. Taji’s had a bit too much to drink. I hope you don’t take it to heart.”

Chale apologized again to Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen shook his head indifferently, “I wouldn’t stoop to argue with a child.”

Taji trembled with fury when he heard this.
