Chapter Index

“Hmph! Impossible? There’s nothing impossible about it! This is the evidence!”

Miguel gave a cold snort, his face dark and stern.

For him, this was a huge humiliation, and it was also an insult to his daughter.

Miguel’s daughter stubbornly said, “No… I don’t believe it! I have to ask him in person. I need to hear it directly from him.”

    Xu Shaochen: “…………..”

Isn’t this the type of melodramatic scene often seen in Chinese soap operas?

Do Mexicans watch Chinese soap operas too? “He married you just to use you. What are you even thinking…”

Miguel angrily repeated everything Xu Shaochen had just said.

Xu Shaochen chimed in from the side, “Your father is right. He’s definitely trying to mess with me. If he truly loved you, he wouldn’t drag your father into this mess.”

Miguel’s daughter looked as if she’d lost her closest family member. Her expression flickered between emotions. She couldn’t accept it, but now she had no choice.

“Daughter, forget about that scumbag. I’ll make sure you get justice.”

Miguel stepped forward, hugged her to comfort her, and gently patted her back.

    Lunch was at Miguel’s house.

After eating, Xu Shaochen said his goodbyes and left.

On the way back to the hotel, Xu Shaochen noticed something strange. There seemed to be fewer cars and pedestrians on the road than there were in the morning.

“Boss, something doesn’t seem right. Should we turn around and head back to the slums?”

Long Yi and Long Er also sensed something was off. They slowed down the car, their faces serious as they spoke.

“Keep driving. Notify everyone in the front and rear vehicles to stay alert. Also, notify the hotel staff to come over.”

Xu Shaochen said expressionlessly. He was sitting in a bulletproof car, accompanied by fifty heavily armed genetically modified bodyguards. He didn’t believe anyone could get to him.

    “Boom!”

After around a minute of driving, several cars parked by the roadside suddenly exploded, blocking the convoy’s path.

Immediately after, the sound of gunfire erupted like a rainstorm.

    “Bang! Bang!”

    “Rat-a-tat-tat-tat…”

Bullets ricocheted off the car, leaving sparks, but they couldn’t penetrate the interior.

The bodyguards from the front and rear cars quickly got out. Some used handguns for cover while others opened the trunk, revealing automatic rifles and submachine guns.

After arming themselves with these weapons, they methodically returned fire at the attackers, all while keeping Xu Shaochen’s car in the center.

Naturally, this attack was orchestrated by Zheng Bei, and his four most trusted subordinates were leading the ambush.

In Zheng Bei’s mind, Xu Shaochen would be most relaxed on his way back to the hotel after visiting his father-in-law.

Therefore, striking during this segment was the perfect timing. He hoped to wrap things up in under twenty minutes so that Xu Shaochen wouldn’t survive.

While looking out the window at the explosions, Xu Shaochen sat in the back seat, expressionless, as if everything happening outside had nothing to do with him.

He pulled out a cigar, put it in his mouth, took a puff, and said, “Long Er, go down and take command. I want to see results in ten minutes.”

    “Yes, boss.”

Upon hearing this, Long Er didn’t hesitate. He drew his handgun, opened the door, and got out.

They had all injected Genetic Serum. Their reflexes, speed, eyesight, and accuracy had improved multiple times, and they were wearing the best bulletproof vests in the world. Could they really fail to take care of a bunch of petty criminals?

If they couldn’t even deal with a group of small-time thugs, they might as well all die. Xu Shaochen wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

He paid for their upkeep and genetically modified them so that they could be used at moments like this.

“Damn it! Who the hell are these guys? Even regular troops aren’t this tough!”

“They’re wearing bulletproof vests! Fall back! If we keep this up, all of our people will die!”

“What’s going on? Did they take some kind of stimulant? Why are they still running after being shot in the leg?”

Five minutes into the fight, Zheng Bei’s men were already preparing to retreat.

They had discovered that Xu Shaochen’s people were unexpectedly strong, almost freakishly so.

They were wearing bulletproof vests, which was already a problem.

But on top of that, who had ever seen someone, after being shot in the leg, still able to run like a cheetah? And who had ever seen someone get shot in the arm multiple times and still hold a gun, firing back without flinching?

Moreover, their accuracy was impressive—almost every shot hit, and anyone hit on Zheng Bei’s side was dead, no one just got injured.

Despite having the advantage of numbers, they were being suppressively outgunned.

Are these guys even human? “First squad and second squad, cover the retreat! Third squad and fourth squad, fall back!”

After losing over ten men, Zheng Bei’s forces finally ordered a retreat.

    “Catch one alive!”

    Long Er shouted.

Since they still had to protect Xu Shaochen and be cautious of a diversionary tactic, Long Er didn’t order a pursuit when the enemy retreated.

The entire firefight lasted less than ten minutes, and over forty corpses were left at the scene.

All of those corpses belonged to Zheng Bei’s men. Some of Xu Shaochen’s bodyguards were injured, but none of them died.

After injecting the Genetic Serum, their vitality increased, and their sense of pain was diminished. As long as they weren’t hit in the head or heart, a typical gunshot wasn’t fatal.

    “Vroom, vroom…”

    “Click, clack, clack…”

The sound of engines roaring and hurried footsteps grew louder. The government troops of Mexico City had arrived.

When the leading officer saw the aftermath, he was stunned.

Damn! Are rich people’s bodyguards these fearsome nowadays? He was amazed as he looked at several bodyguards, their legs bleeding from bullet wounds, but standing tall without flinching.

After a brief moment of shock, the officer quickly regained his composure and hurried over to Xu Shaochen’s car.

As the officer walked over, Xu Shaochen rolled down the window.

“Mr. Xu, I apologize for being late and causing you such distress.”

The officer saluted Xu Shaochen and said with a regretful expression.

“It’s fine. Just make sure to catch the people behind this.”

Xu Shaochen smiled, his tone calm. This attack had been anticlimactic, but it had given him a firsthand look at the combat prowess of the gene-modified soldiers.

And this was only the first generation of the drug, yet its effects were already this powerful.

How much more terrifying would the second and third generations be? “Rest assured, Mr. Xu. We will thoroughly investigate the illegal armed group that attempted to damage the friendship between you and our people in Mexico, and bring them to justice!”

The officer straightened up and said firmly. Then, in a lowered voice, he added, “Mr. Xu, I’ll arrange for someone to escort you back to the hotel. Your bodyguards need to get to the hospital as soon as possible.”

    “Thank you.”

Xu Shaochen smiled, then closed the window. He had now started to suspect who was really behind the assassination attempt.
