Chapter 915: Recalling Those Unforgettable Times
by xennovelWhen Zheng Bei returned to the slums, he sensed something was off.
“Dad, Sweetheart, what’s going on? Were you all waiting for me? We’re family, no need to be so formal.”
Zheng Bei forced a smile while looking at Miguel and his daughter on the couch, his expression somewhat uneasy.
“Slap!”
Miguel’s daughter stood up, raised her hand, and delivered a slap to Zheng Bei’s face.
“Are you crazy?!”
Zheng Bei was caught completely off guard. Feeling the burning pain on his face, a wave of anger surged in his heart.
He had already been simmering with rage after his failed assassination attempt on Xu Shaochen, and now being slapped by a woman? He couldn’t hold back his fury anymore.
“You’re the crazy one!”
Miguel said coldly as he stood up, grabbing the collection of news articles and photos that Xu Shaochen had gathered and threw them at Zheng Bei’s face.
“Thud!”
Some of the papers left marks on Zheng Bei’s face as he fumbled to catch them.
He glanced at them.
Instantly, his face changed dramatically, a chill ran up his spine.
This was his greatest shame, so he had long chosen to forget about it, and no one had brought it up again.
Until now. Seeing these articles, everything from back then came flooding back.
Xu Shaochen is so insidious.
“Dad, let me explain…”
Zheng Bei snapped out of it, trying to defend himself. If Miguel wasn’t protecting him, he was truly finished.
“No need for explanations! The truth is right here. What else is there to explain? You’re crazy for daring to deceive my daughter and use me! You must have a death wish!”
Before Zheng Bei could finish, Miguel interrupted him harshly, kicking him.
“Ah!”
Zheng Bei screamed and stumbled back a few steps, then fell to the ground.
But it wasn’t over. Miguel grabbed a nearby chair and smashed it down toward Zheng Bei.
“Bang! Bang!”
“Ah! Dad, stop! Dad, please stop, listen to me…”
Zheng Bei curled up into a ball on the floor, clutching his head, rolling around while pleading for mercy.
After beating him for a while, Miguel got tired, tossed the chair aside, and said while panting, “You can use me, but you shouldn’t have deceived my daughter and toyed with her feelings!”
“Dad, listen, I was framed! How could I like men? I truly love Sweetheart!”
Zheng Bei wobbled as he stood up, looking at Miguel with an anxious face.
“Oh really? And what, you nearly got us killed?”
Miguel asked coolly.
Zheng Bei froze, “Dad, what do you mean by that?! I’ve never had such thoughts.”
“You’ve never had such thoughts? Then what about the recent attack on Xu Shaochen? Why did you go to China to target Xu Shaochen?”
Miguel roared furiously at him. With every word, Zheng Bei’s face grew paler.
“Dad, it must be a misunderstanding! How could I do such a thing? I’ve held a grudge against him, but even if you gave me a hundred chances, I wouldn’t dare think of revenge!”
Zheng Bei’s defense was becoming increasingly weak, and his heart filled with fear. He realized that ever since stepping into the slums, things had spiraled out of his control.
“Men!”
Miguel barked coldly.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
A group of strong men rushed in.
“Tie him up and send him to Mr. Xu.”
Miguel pointed at Zheng Bei as he spoke.
With his order, the men swarmed over Zheng Bei, pinning him to the ground and restraining him.
“Dad, no, please!”
“Sweetheart, save me! Please beg your father! I truly love you! Think of our feelings!”
Zheng Bei, in a panic, struggled on the ground, but it was all in vain, making him seem utterly weak.
He never thought that his supposed escape route was actually a trap.
“Shut up! Feelings? How dare you even mention that word? I might’ve had feelings for you, but for you, it was only physical, wasn’t it?”
Miguel’s daughter looked at Zheng Bei with contempt, her eyes filled with pain and hatred. A few tears trickled down her cheeks.
In the end, Zheng Bei was restrained and thrown into a car, being taken to the hotel where Xu Shaochen stayed.
About half an hour later, Zheng Bei met Xu Shaochen again, in the hotel room. The once arrogant boy had now been tied up and looked utterly defeated.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Well, would you look at that? Isn’t this our famous Zheng Bei, Master Zheng? Who wrapped you up like a dumpling? Couldn’t they see who you are?”
Xu Shaochen circled Zheng Bei with a mocking smile, clearly enjoying himself.
Zheng Bei’s face turned red, then pale, “Xu, you’ve got me. Do what you want, kill me if you’ve got the guts! I’m not afraid of you!”
“Bang!”
Before he could finish, Xu Shaochen stomped down on his head.
“Ah!”
Zheng Bei screamed, face pressed to the ground, his whole body writhing in pain.
“There’s no need for all this killing and violence. We live in a harmonious society now; we should compete to be civilized people. Look at you. You’re not even afraid of dying, so why should I kill you?”
Xu Shaochen squatted down and patted Zheng Bei’s face with a smile as warm as sunshine.
But Zheng Bei shuddered, his face full of fear as he watched him warily, “Wha…what do you want? Let me tell you, if you have the guts, kill me! Don’t assume I’m scared!”
“Oh, I know you’re not scared. That’s why I have an even better idea, one that will make you relive the most unforgettable time of your life.”
Xu Shaochen spoke meaningfully.
“Gulp—”
Zheng Bei licked his dry lips, swallowing nervously. His hair stood on end under Xu Shaochen’s gaze.
“Wha…what the hell do you want?! Xu, stop being so cryptic! I’m warning you, I…I…”
Zheng Bei’s voice faltered, his body trembling uncontrollably. Inside, he cursed every ancestor of Xu Shaochen he could think of.
Xu Shaochen said something to Long Yi, who nodded and gave Zheng Bei a strange look before leaving the room.
After about ten minutes, Long Yi returned, followed by two large men.
“Boss, everything’s arranged.”
Long Yi gestured toward the two men behind him.
Xu Shaochen nodded, then pointed to Zheng Bei, “Take him to another room, make him feel your strong affection. Don’t hold back.”
The two men looked at Zheng Bei’s frail figure with shining eyes, nearly salivating.
Zheng Bei clenched tightly, finally understanding what Xu Shaochen meant by ‘unforgettable time.’
“Xu, you bastard! Kill me! Just kill me!”
Zheng Bei roared hysterically, his face drained of color from sheer terror.
