Chapter Index

“What’s going on here? We’re just eating, and now there’s a military inspection.”

    “Yeah, this never happened before.”

“Forget it, let’s just stop talking. We might get into trouble.”

All the guests were talking among themselves, as it was the first time they’d ever experienced something like this.

Xu Shaochen and Nika also went through the mock inspection at the door to avoid drawing attention.

Being too conspicuous would make it easier to attract unwanted eyes.

Mexico was too dangerous. You could be walking down the street in broad daylight, and someone might gun you down with an AK.

Xu Shaochen, in particular, had a sensitive identity, and the Mexican government was awaiting his investment. If something happened to him, it would be disastrous.

Xu Shaochen and Nika chose a table by the wall.

As Nika put it, it’s too dangerous to sit near the window. What if someone fired a shot from outside? Or what if there was a sniper?

Nika wore something simple today: a black, strappy short dress that barely covered her elegant figure. Black stockings hugged her slender, long legs, and she wore black high heels.

Her entire being exuded an aura of sensuality. She was like a walking aphrodisiac.

In Mexico, even though Nika was a government official, she usually didn’t dare dress like this on the streets.

She’d be too easily targeted and might end up dragged into an alley by some thug, raped, then killed.

Incidents like that happened all the time in Mexico.

The only reason she could dress like this today was partially to please Xu Shaochen, and also because they had more security with them.

So, unless you leave the country, you’ll never truly appreciate how good things are back home.

Every country has its perks, but in terms of safety and security, very few places compare to back home.

Abroad, the streets are empty at midnight, while back home, nightlife is just getting started.

Xu Shaochen was unfamiliar with Mexican foods, so the job of ordering naturally fell to Nika.

    “Clink!”

Just as they finished ordering, a wine glass fell onto their table.

A towering, drunk man reached over to touch Nika’s face. “Hey gorgeous, how about we share a drink? Then we can have some fun. I’ve got some pure stuff here. Want to try?”

As he spoke, he pulled out a small bag of white powder from his pocket, shaking it as if showing off.

Nika dodged his hand and coldly said, “I suggest you leave immediately, or you’ll regret it.”

No matter how much Nika had heard or seen in the news, nothing compared to the sensory shock of witnessing this firsthand.

Even inside a restaurant, with two soldiers standing at the entrance, this man still dared to flirt with her and try to tempt her with drugs.

Drugs were indeed rampant here. This guy had to be a drug dealer.

“Kid, is she your girl? A Chinese? With your scrawny body, can you even satisfy her? You should give her to me instead. I’ll even pay you with this.”

The man looked at Xu Shaochen with a teasing grin and threw the bag of white powder at him.

    “Scram!”

Xu Shaochen coldly spat out a word and threw the bag back onto the ground.

The man’s two lackeys immediately dove to the floor to fight over it without hesitation.

The man’s face darkened. “Chinese boy, do you know where you are? You refused that? How about we trade with this?”

The man slammed a gun onto the table, glaring coldly at Xu Shaochen.

The two lackeys behind him stood up as well, pulling out their guns and aiming them at Xu Shaochen.

The other customers barely even reacted, casually stepping aside to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang…”

At that moment, the soldiers at the door stormed in, opening fire without hesitation.

The man and his two thugs didn’t even have time to react before falling to the ground, their faces frozen in shock.

“Sir, are you alright? Do you want to move to another place?”

The leading officer approached Xu Shaochen, his face full of apology.

The other diners were all staring in shock.

They couldn’t believe that their own military would treat a Chinese man with such respect.

And it was clear these soldiers were here to protect him. The earlier identity check at the entrance was also likely for security reasons.

For a moment, everyone had the same question: who on earth was this Chinese man?

Several Chinese tourists who had come together were beyond stunned. Their jaws nearly hit the floor.

They had been thinking of approaching their fellow countryman to say hello just moments ago.

Now, they were drenched in cold sweat, immensely relieved that they hadn’t. Otherwise, they might have ended up getting shot without even knowing why.

“Who is this big shot?! Damn, he’s even commanding respect abroad.”

“I have no idea. Let me sneak a photo. Maybe I can ask about him online.”

“Keep your voice down! Didn’t you see those soldiers looking this way?”

Xu Shaochen overheard their conversation but didn’t know what to make of it. Who in their right mind comes to a place like this for a vacation?

All he could do was think… how brave they must be.

“No need. Just clean up the bodies and make sure there’s no blood left. I don’t want it to ruin my appetite.”

Xu Shaochen said casually to the officer. Though he hadn’t expected things to escalate so quickly, the soldiers had acted decisively in eliminating the threat without hesitation.

While their intent was to protect him, Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but reflect.

In places like this, human lives truly were worthless.

The poorer and more backward the country, the cheaper human life became because there were no proper safeguards.

    “I know!”

Suddenly, someone in the restaurant yelled out.

Instantly, all eyes were drawn to him.

Several soldiers reflexively pointed their guns at the person.

The one shouting was a chubby young man wearing glasses, part of the group of Chinese tourists. Staring at the dark gun barrels, he immediately broke out in a cold sweat.

He swallowed hard, then sat back down, lowering his head as he trembled in fear.

“Alright, it’s over. Leave a few men to handle the bodies, the rest of you can go.”

Xu Shaochen waved his hand, dismissing the soldiers.

“What did you figure out, fatty?”

Once the soldiers had left, one of his companions asked. The others all looked at him curiously as well.

After a long pause, the fat man raised his head nervously, took a glance at Xu Shaochen, and whispered, “I know who he is. He’s Xu Shaochen, the heir to the Xu Corporation.”
