Chapter Index

“Let’s go! If you want to wait, keep waiting. I still have plans to play cards with my girlfriends tonight.”

Zhou Xue snorted coldly, put away her makeup kit, and then grabbed her small handbag as she walked out of the private room.

    “Xiaoxue…”

    Zhou Yu called out.

“Alright, sis, leave her be. Mr. Xu should be arriving soon.”

Zhao Qing glanced at his watch, looking displeased, and said to Zhou Yu.

He was holding in a lot of frustration.

In the afternoon, he had told Zhou Xue about inviting a friend for dinner tonight.

But she went shopping with her friends and didn’t come back until much later.

It wasn’t until after countless calls that Zhou Xue reluctantly arrived at Jiangzhou Grand Hotel.

Zhao Qing didn’t even have the chance to explain Xu Shaochen’s identity to her.

Now that she left, it was probably for the best. At least she wouldn’t ruin anyone’s appetite by sulking.

“Ah, Xiaoxue has been like this since she was little. Spoiled by our parents. Zhao Qing, please be patient with her.”

Zhou Yu sighed, apologizing to Zhao Qing with a regretful expression.

Hearing her sister’s words, Zhou Xue didn’t care and pursed her lips. She pulled open the private room door and collided head-on with Xu Shaochen and his two companions outside.

“Ah! Are you blind? How do you walk, huh? You stepped on my foot!”

Already furious from waiting so long, Zhou Xue immediately exploded at the situation.

“Sorry, really. How about I compensate you for your shoes?”

Song Xinran apologized sincerely. It was indeed her who accidentally stepped on Zhou Xue’s foot, so she chose not to get too upset at Zhou Xue’s rude words.

“Compensate? What could you possibly compensate with? Do you have any idea how much these shoes cost? Can you afford it?”

Zhou Xue sneered and, pointing at Song Xinran’s nose, cruelly mocked her.

Hearing the commotion at the door, Zhao Qing and the others inside the room all frowned and quickly got up, making their way to the entrance.

    “Mr. Xu, you’re here!”

Seeing Xu Shaochen, Zhao Qing sped up to greet him.

    “Mr. Xu.” “Hello, Mr. Xu.”

Zhang Wei and Zhou Yu also greeted Xu Shaochen politely.

“So, it was you guys we were waiting for all this time? You made me wait so long, and now you dirty my shoes? We’re just destined to clash, aren’t we?”

Zhou Xue, still upset, looked at Xu Shaochen’s group and complained.

As soon as she finished, Zhao Qing’s face darkened, and without a word, he slapped her hard across the face.

    “Smack!”

    “Shut up!”

    Never mind Xu Shaochen’s status.

To Zhao Qing, Xu Shaochen was a benefactor who had essentially given him a new life. Without Xu Shaochen, Zhao Qing wouldn’t be who he was today.

How could Zhao Qing tolerate Zhou Xue talking to him like that?

Feeling the burning pain on her face, Zhou Xue was utterly stunned. It took her a while before she looked at Zhao Qing in disbelief.

“Zhao Qing, you… you hit me? You hit me for three strangers?”

“Yes, I hit you! Now get out!” Zhao Qing, overwhelmed with anger, roared back.

Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow, “That’s enough, Zhao Qing.”

“Mind your own business, you busybody!” Zhou Xue shouted at Xu Shaochen.

    “Xiaoxue!”

Zhou Yu quickly grabbed hold of Zhou Xue and repeatedly apologized to Xu Shaochen. “Mr. Xu, I deeply apologize. I’m so sorry. Please don’t take her words to heart.”

“Let go of me, sis! I’ve never been hit by anyone before, and now my man hits me because of these three nobodies!”

Zhou Xue was so worked up that she was spitting and flailing around, looking like a complete mess.

“Mr. Xu, I’m sorry for making you laugh.”

Zhao Qing took a deep breath and lowered his head in shame as he spoke to Xu Shaochen.

He had already made up his mind. He had to break up with Zhou Xue. The more time he spent with her, the more he realized she wasn’t wife material.

“Mr. Xu, go in and have a seat. Order some food. I’ll have a word with her.”

As Zhou Yu spoke, she forcefully dragged Zhou Xue out of the private room.

“Mr. Xu, ladies, come in, please.”

Zhang Wei and Zhao Qing invited Xu Shaochen’s group to sit down.

    Outside the private room.

“Sis, let me go! How could you side with outsiders? You’re helping them!”

    “Smack!”

Zhou Yu raised her hand and slapped Zhou Xue hard, leaving five bright red finger marks on her face.

    “Sis… you…”

Zhou Xue clutched her face, looking at Zhou Yu in complete disbelief.

“Now have you calmed down? Do you know who that man was? With just a word, he could ruin our family. What were you trying to do? Destroy us?”

Zhou Yu’s tone turned cold, all traces of her earlier gentleness gone as she spoke with a sharp edge.

    “Sis… you… you’re scaring me.”

Zhou Xue stammered, clearly unsure if her sister was bluffing.

“Scaring you? His name is Xu Shaochen! If you spent less time out shopping and playing Mahjong with your friends and more time watching the news, you wouldn’t have failed to recognize him!”

Zhou Yu snapped. Dealing with her sister was thoroughly exhausting.

    “Xu… Xu Shaochen? Zhao Qing… why… why didn’t he… tell me?”

Zhou Xue’s face turned pale with fear as she stuttered, shifting the blame onto Zhao Qing. Clearly, she knew the weight behind Xu Shaochen’s name.

Zhou Yu let out a cold laugh, “Tell you? How would he have told you? He called you over a dozen times, and you only waltzed in on your own time. Do you really think he could say anything in front of all of us?”

“Sis… What do I do now? You have to help me!”

Zhou Xue trembled in fear, tears uncontrollably spilling down her face as she wailed pitifully.

“Enough. Wipe your tears, and just go apologize sincerely. Xu Shaochen isn’t petty; he won’t hold a grudge.”

Zhou Yu rubbed her forehead, clearly exhausted, as she led Zhou Xue back toward the private room.

Trembling, Zhou Xue approached Xu Shaochen and stammered, “Mr… Mr. Xu, I’m sorry, I know what I did was wrong.”

Then she looked over at Song Xinran. “And… Miss, I lost my temper earlier. Please don’t hold it against me.”

“It’s alright. I’m not that petty. Come sit down. We were just ordering. Take a look and pick something you like.”

Song Xinran smiled warmly and handed Zhou Xue the menu with a gentle tone.

The stark contrast between Song Xinran’s gentle demeanor and Zhou Xue’s earlier arrogance was striking and left her feeling ashamed.

    “Where’s Mei Liangxin?”

    Xu Shaochen asked.

    “Bam!”

No sooner had he spoken than the door burst open, and Mei Liangxin entered the room with Liu Ying.

“I went to pick you up, but you seemed to be enjoying yourself, so I didn’t interrupt you.”

Mei Liangxin walked in carelessly and addressed Xu Shaochen in a nonchalant tone.
