Chapter Index

“Little Xu, really, I’m causing so much trouble for you.”

In the principal’s office, the principal held Xu Shaochen’s hand, his face filled with smiles as he spoke.

Behind him stood a whole group of school leaders.

“You’re too kind, Principal. This is my alma mater. Setting a good example for the new students is something I should do.”

Xu Shaochen spoke in a calm tone but added in his heart: Too bad these students won’t learn the essence of my skills.

The essence… is to date the teacher.

There’s a saying: If you’re brave enough, the teacher might just go on maternity leave ((≡≡))… “Oh, by the way, Principal, I have a small favor to ask. I hope you’ll agree.”

Xu Shaochen pushed those random thoughts aside and recalled the real reason he was there.

“Whatever you need, just say it.” The principal looked at Xu Shaochen, grinning. With just one Xu Shaochen, Jiangzhou University is bound to make a name for itself.

Xu Shaochen felt a bit creeped out by the principal’s stare. He coughed twice, “It’s like this, Principal. I might be a bit busy in the future, so I won’t be coming to the school.”

“No problem, of course! For a remarkable student like you, we’ll make an exception, considering your career. You don’t need to focus on school, but the school will always be your strong backing.”

As soon as Xu Shaochen finished speaking, the principal eagerly agreed. To him, this was no big deal.

If all goes as expected, Xu Shaochen, who won’t attend a single class for his junior and senior years, will probably still graduate with honors.

    Yes, it’s just that amazing.

“Little Xu, it’s about time. Shall we head to the field?”

The principal looked at the watch on his wrist, then spoke in a negotiating tone.

    “After you, Principal.”

From beginning to end, it was only Xu Shaochen and the principal talking. The group of school leaders behind them all wore smiles but had no chance to speak.

The group arrived at the makeshift stage on the school field.

Normally, this event could have been held in the school auditorium, but it was too small to hold everyone.

Although it was officially a speech for freshmen, in fact, students from all grades, sophomores, juniors, and even seniors, were present.

The field was packed with a huge crowd.

This was Xu Shaochen’s second speech at the school. The last one was during the school’s anniversary celebration.

But this time, it was his solo event.

After all, he’s now the richest person in the world.

“Students, please quiet down. Let’s welcome Xu Shaochen to the stage with a warm round of applause.”

After a few brief opening remarks, the principal handed everything over to Xu Shaochen.

    “Clap, clap, clap…”

The moment the principal finished speaking, thunderous applause broke out on the field and seemed as if it would never end.

Amidst the applause, Xu Shaochen, holding a microphone, walked to the center of the stage with a small smile on his face.

Then, even louder applause erupted, and the audience below seemed to burst into chaos.

“Senior Xu is so handsome! I want to marry him!”

“I bet women all over the world feel the same way as you do. Go to bed early tonight, you might dream about it.”

“I heard from the upperclassmen that Senior Xu dated his teacher. And she’s one of the most beautiful teachers at school.”

    “Seriously…?”

Obviously, gossip about famous people always grabs attention.

Xu Shaochen’s classmates from his own class watched him on stage, their expressions a bit complicated.

We thought you were just a mildly impressive guy, but who would’ve imagined you’re a super-rich second-generation heir? It’s too demoralizing.

“Good morning, everyone. I’m Xu Shaochen from the Psychology Department.”

“To be honest, the school asked me to give a speech to the new students, but I’m not really sure what to say.”

“Because we’ve all heard plenty of grand theories growing up. Those who can take them to heart don’t need me to say it. And those who won’t listen, well, they don’t need me lecturing, either. So today, instead of calling this a speech, let’s just call it a little chat between classmates…”

Standing on stage, Xu Shaochen spoke confidently and humorously, sharing his thoughts instead of delivering a serious lecture.

    “Senior, I have a question.”

After Xu Shaochen finished speaking, a sophomore male student stood up.

    “Go ahead.”

    Xu Shaochen nodded in approval.

“Senior, what do you think is the key to your success?”

    The male student asked.

Everyone immediately turned their eyes to Xu Shaochen, eager to hear his answer.

Xu Shaochen smiled slightly, “The key was that I had a grandfather who was the richest person in the world, and he left me a massive inheritance.”

    “Whoa!”

Everyone was immediately in an uproar. They hadn’t expected Xu Shaochen to give such an answer.

They thought he would say things like perseverance or continued effort, then dish out some motivational rhetoric.

    But he completely surprised them.

Xu Shaochen continued, “If my grandfather hadn’t left everything to me, I’d be just like you right now, sitting among the crowd, watching someone else brag on stage. But because I had my grandfather, I’m standing here today.”

He paused for a moment before continuing, “Before I inherited my grandfather’s fortune, I was just an ordinary person, like everyone here. So, I won’t bore you with empty, motivational speeches. I’ll just tell it like it is.”

“People have always said this, and it remains true: being born into a good family is important. If you want to ensure your future children aren’t sitting in the crowd but standing here, you need to work hard to create a better starting point for them.”

“Strive to ensure that they, like me, are the ones standing on the stage.”

    “Clap, clap, clap…”

Another round of applause, like a tidal wave, surged through the field.

They’d had enough motivational hype, but Xu Shaochen’s blunt truth stirred them even more.

Because reality isn’t as sweet as a motivational speech. It’ll only beat you down until you’re covered in wounds.

“One last thing: Effort is never wrong. Because if you don’t try, you’ll never know how worthless you are.”

When Xu Shaochen finished, everyone burst into laughter, but some had thoughtful expressions.

Some merely thought the senior was down-to-earth, humorous, and relatable, and they’d have a fun story to tell… only to forget it in a few days.

But others absorbed many of his points, which would later slowly sink in and become their own wisdom.

    That’s the difference between people.

After the speech, Xu Shaochen went to his class to greet his classmates and teacher before leaving.

He still had a bunch of things waiting for him to deal with.

This morning, he needed to establish the framework for his gaming company.

In the afternoon, he had a meeting with people from the pig farm company.

Though he wasn’t planning to partner with the pig farm, they were still major players in the gaming industry.

As a newcomer to the gaming business, he figured he could learn something from them.

At the very least, the pig farm was quite good at getting players to spend money.
