Chapter Index

    Just as expected.

Lin Wei’s face instantly turned pale after hearing this. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead, and his heart was filled with fear and anxiety.

He had thought that this name sounded a bit familiar.

Little did he imagine it was this big shot. He had heard Xu Shaochen’s name countless times recently from the mouths of Jiangzhou’s bigwigs.

“Xu… Xu Shao… I… I was wrong. It was my fault, I was blind and dared to compete with you over a woman. Please… please don’t hold it against me.”

After reacting, Lin Wei hurriedly bowed his head to apologize. Though he stammered while speaking, his attitude was very sincere.

“Young Master Xu, it’s nothing major after all. My son already knows he was wrong. Can’t we give him a chance to start anew?”

“I believe a great man like yourself wouldn’t waste time fretting about this brat.”

Lin Hao said respectfully to Xu Shaochen, his stance extremely humble.

He had only just arrived in Jiangzhou, and hadn’t yet found his footing. He definitely didn’t want to be chased out right away.

“Does he have an older brother?” Xu Shaochen asked a seemingly unrelated question.

The topic shifted so fast, Lin Hao didn’t react at first: “Yes, this brat has an older brother, two years his senior.”

“His brother must be rather impressive, right?” Xu Shaochen said casually.

Upon hearing this, Lin Hao quickly replied, “Not at all, he is perhaps slightly better than this foolish son of mine, but he cannot compare to you in the slightest, Young Master Xu.”

His words were modest, but a trace of pride still appeared on his face.

It was obvious his first son pleased him greatly.

“True enough. If both of your sons were like this one, you’d be in despair.” Xu Shaochen smiled and joked.

Lin Hao felt incredibly awkward upon hearing this. After all, as incompetent as his son was, he was still his son. Hearing someone else say it felt hard to accept.

“Alright, have your son stop pestering my secretary in the future. Now take him and get lost.”

Xu Shaochen glanced at the watch on his wrist. The meeting time with the Pig Farm people was fast approaching, so he promptly sent them on their way.

“Thank you, thank you, Young Master Xu. When do you have free time? I would like to invite you to dinner so that my son can formally apologize to you.”

Lin Hao first expressed his gratitude before cautiously inquiring.

Xu Shaochen smiled, ambiguously replying, “I’m very busy.”

“Yes, yes, of course. I won’t take up any more of your time. I’ll be leaving with my son now.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Hao knew he’d been declined. He sensibly didn’t push the matter further and led Lin Wei to the car.

“Come on, let’s go meet this Pig Farm’s owner.”

Xu Shaochen stretched lazily and spoke to the secretary beside him.

    “Chairman Xu, thank you.”

The secretary, genuinely grateful, said with a face full of appreciation.

    “No need to thank me…”

Xu Shaochen shook his head nonchalantly, then leaned over and whispered a few words into the secretary’s ear.

Her pretty face immediately turned so red it looked like it could start dripping blood. She responded in a barely audible voice, “Mmm, I… I’ll give it a try.”

No wonder she reacted that way. Xu Shaochen’s request was just too outrageous.

    “Let’s go.”

They got into the car and headed to the meeting place where the Pig Farm Corporation chairman would meet them.

The Pig Farm Corporation’s boss had personally flown to Jiangzhou to meet Xu Shaochen, showing just how much respect he was giving this meeting.

Inside the Bentley parked by the side of the road.

Lin Hao watched Xu Shaochen’s car leave through the rearview mirror, his face expressionless and silent.

    “Dad… I-I was wrong.”

Lin Wei sat uneasily, speaking with a voice full of nerves.

    “What did you do wrong?”

    Lin Hao asked coldly.

“I… I shouldn’t have provoked Xu Shaochen.” Lin Wei raised his head carefully to glance at Lin Hao and then continued nervously, “Dad… I swear I won’t get involved with Xu Shaochen’s woman again.”

“No, you need to keep pursuing her. In fact, it would be best if you could marry her.”

Lin Hao’s tone was firm and decisive.

    “What?!”

Lin Wei was dumbfounded, “Dad, what… what do you mean by that? Just now, we… we…”

He was at a loss for words, completely unable to follow his father’s logic.

Even if you gave him a hundred times more courage, he wouldn’t dare to chase after Ye Ling again.

“Idiot! Let me ask you this: do you think Ye Ling could marry Xu Shaochen?”

Lin Hao lit up a cigar and asked casually.

Without any hesitation, Lin Wei shook his head, “No. Even though Ye Ling’s father is an academic, he stands no chance against someone like Xu Shaochen.”

“Exactly. She can only ever be Xu Shaochen’s lover. But if she never marries, people will start talking. On top of that, her conservative father would never accept her staying as someone’s mistress.”

Lin Hao continued Lin Wei’s thought process, analyzing Ye Ling’s situation in full.

Lin Wei suddenly understood, looking at his father in shock:

“Dad, you’re saying I should arrange a fake marriage with Ye Ling? That way, she can still stay with Xu Shaochen, and I just act as her legal husband without interfering?”

    “Exactly.” Lin Hao nodded.

“Dad! No way, if she marries me, she’s my wife. How can I let her be with another man? That’s like asking for a green hat!”

Lin Wei was extremely emotional as he resisted. It was humiliating to imagine not touching his wife while she served someone else. Just thinking about it made him boil inside.

Lin Hao cursed angrily, “Fool! This would all happen in secret, so who would know? And even if people found out, what could they possibly do?”

“Have you ever considered, this way, we get to form ties with Xu Shaochen? Not only can the Lin family secure its footing in Jiangzhou, but we can rise even further!”

Lin Hao clearly had his own agenda. If it had been his eldest son, there’s no way he’d suggest such something like this. The eldest was his hope, and reputation was of utmost importance to him.

But now, with his foolish, hedonistic second son, the situation was different.

He had no expectations for Lin Wei achieving anything noteworthy in life. If he lived a comfortable, frivolous existence, that would be enough. So even if he bore the reputation of wearing a ‘green hat,’ it didn’t matter.

“Dad, if I can’t even touch my own wife and have to support her while she’s with another man… how could I possibly accept that?!”

It was easy enough to talk about. But if the situation truly landed on his shoulders, accepting it would be another matter entirely.

“Xiaowei, you need to think about the Lin family. It would just be in name. After you’re married, you can still live your own life, and she will live hers. You can continue enjoying a life of excess as usual. What’s so bad about that?”

    “If you agree, we…”

Lin Hao patiently tried to convince Lin Wei, offering further incentives. Finally, he managed to get Lin Wei to agree.

“Fine… I’ll give it a shot. But if she doesn’t agree, then it’s off.”

Lin Wei reluctantly said, forcing himself to agree to this humiliating arrangement.
