Chapter Index

After parting ways with Zhu Sitao,

Xu Shaochen returned to the headquarters of Chen Yu Group with his secretary.

To be honest, this was the place where it all began, the company he had personally founded.

    “Good day, Chairman Xu.”

    “Chairman Xu, you’re back!”

    “Good day, Chairman Xu…”

As he walked along, greetings came from all directions, with every employee stopping to greet him.

Xu Shaochen nodded in acknowledgment and headed for his private elevator with his secretary.

As the boss of the company, he was always busy—even the time spent waiting for the elevator couldn’t be wasted.

Besides, this also helped establish his authority as a top executive, killing two birds with one stone.

Mingling with employees was only necessary for mid and lower-level management. Executives didn’t need to do that.

Thus, many big companies have private elevators exclusively for executives and presidents.

Just as Xu Shaochen entered the elevator, a tall woman in a uniform skirt suddenly rushed inside in a hurry.

“Hey, what are you doing? Which department are you from?”

Seeing this, the secretary immediately became angry and questioned the woman in uniform.

    “Chairman… Chairman Xu, hello.”

The woman first greeted Xu Shaochen, then looked at the secretary and said, “What’s the problem? Can’t I use this elevator?”

She acted in a dumb but cute way.

“This is Chairman Xu’s private elevator, don’t you understand? Get out now!” The secretary angrily tried to throw her out.

Pouting, the woman puffed out her chest and said, “Why should I? We’re all human, everyone is equal. Why do I have to leave? I need to deliver these documents.”

“Chairman…” The secretary looked at Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen glanced at the woman in uniform and said flatly, “Inform the HR department. Fire her.”

    “Ah!”

The woman’s face instantly turned pale with fear, and she quickly apologized to Xu Shaochen.

“Chairman… Chairman Xu, I won’t do it again. I didn’t mean to. Please give me another chance, Chairman Xu, I’m begging you.”

She felt like crying but had no tears.

Why was this so different from the TV dramas?

Aren’t TV dramas always about the naïve female lead rushing into the president’s private elevator, encountering the domineering CEO, and standing her ground with dignity, catching his special attention and ending up in his bed? Why am I just getting fired?

She’d even put on makeup and perfume today specifically for this, hoping to make a huge leap in status.

“Go to the HR department and settle your wages.”

Xu Shaochen said coldly. He had no idea that her actions were inspired by watching too many TV shows; he simply didn’t appreciate employees who broke the rules.

An employee who doesn’t understand even the most basic rules of the company yet has the nerve to yell about equality? In that case, why bother working? She might as well go home and laze around.

    “Chairman… Chairman Xu, I was wrong… I…”

The woman tearfully pleaded with Xu Shaochen, but to no avail. In the end, she slunk out of the elevator in disgrace.

This shows that watching fewer dumb, shallow, romantic dramas would be wise. They’re all just deceiving the audience.

In the real world, this is the outcome (ω).

    Arriving at the office.

The secretary diligently bustled around, making tea for Xu Shaochen and respectfully placing it in front of him.

As she bent over, a flash of white appeared in Xu Shaochen’s view.

The secretary’s outfit was a bit provocative, clearly designed to please him.

Xu Shaochen quite liked women who were so perceptive.

“Contact the headhunting company and start poaching people. Target employees from Penguin and the Pig Farm, especially technical experts in game development. Once we’ve secured the people, just tell them—I have plenty of money.”

Xu Shaochen took a sip of tea while giving instructions to his secretary.

The people he had brought back from abroad were all management and operations specialists, but for qualified game development and maintenance technicians, he’d have to poach from other places.

The secretary simultaneously listened to Xu Shaochen and mentally noted everything, afraid of forgetting anything.

“Chairman Xu, do you have any other instructions? If not, I’ll go take care of things now.”

Xu Shaochen waved his hand. “And call Director Chen in while you’re at it.”

The ‘Director Chen’ he mentioned was Chen Ji, the CEO of Chen Yu Group.

“Well… Chairman Xu, I recently heard some not-so-good rumors about Director Chen.”

Hearing Xu Shaochen mention Chen Ji, the secretary suddenly recalled something and cautiously approached the topic.

Xu Shaochen gave a noncommittal smile. “What kind of rumors?”

“The rumor is that Director Chen is planning to leave—apparently, a headhunting company has offered him a lucrative deal.” The secretary replied.

Xu Shaochen frowned. He hadn’t expected that while he was busy poaching talent from other companies, someone had set their sights on his own personnel.

This really was a case of ‘those who dig will be dug themselves’.

Still, Chen Ji was indeed a valuable talent. The company trying to poach him clearly had a good eye.

“Go on, you don’t need to worry about this. Just focus on serving me well.”

Xu Shaochen said, looking at his secretary.

The secretary fluttered her eyelashes seductively. “Chairman Xu, haven’t I been serving you well enough?”

The intensity of her flirtation even made her shiver.

If her stuffy, academic father saw this, he’d probably beat her to death for staining the family name.

“Enough. Stop messing around and get out. Don’t forget to call Chen Ji in.”

Last night had left Xu Shaochen a bit drained, so no matter how much the secretary teased him, he was in no shape to respond.

Seeing that even after all her efforts, Xu Shaochen remained indifferent, the secretary pouted in dissatisfaction before clicking her heels and walking out of the office.

A few minutes later, there was a knock at the office door.

    “Knock knock knock…”

    “Come in.”

Xu Shaochen put down the documents in his hand and looked up. As expected, it was Chen Ji.

    “Chairman Xu, welcome home.”

Chen Ji was the first to speak, greeting Xu Shaochen.

“Have a seat.” Xu Shaochen smiled slightly, gesturing for Chen Ji to sit, then said, “I just took a quick look—during my absence, you’ve managed the company well. It was worth every penny I spent keeping you.”

“It’s all thanks to the strong foundation you laid, Chairman Xu. I’m merely working with what was already built. You’re too kind.”

Chen Ji modestly shook his head, giving credit to Xu Shaochen.

“Alright, no need for flattery. Your abilities are evident to everyone. What’s yours is yours, no need to be so humble.”

Xu Shaochen paused for a moment, then continued, “I hear someone’s trying to poach you. Are you planning to leave?”

“Chairman Xu…” Chen Ji’s face changed, and he quickly tried to explain.

But Xu Shaochen raised his hand to stop him. Gently tapping his fingers on the desk, he spoke calmly:

“An employee resigns for only two reasons: the pay isn’t enough, or the company lacks promise. I’m curious—which one applies to me?”
