Chapter Index

In the office of Tianyu Tower.

Xu Shaochen met Zhao Fei again, the second young master of the Zhao family from the Northwest.

Compared to their last meeting, the current Zhao Fei had lost his previous arrogance.

On the contrary, he now seemed a bit uneasy standing in front of Xu Shaochen.

“Chairman Xu, long time no see.”

Zhao Fei took a deep breath, forcing a smile on his face as he tried to maintain a calm tone while looking at Xu Shaochen.

“It has been a while. I thought you were dead. How’s the hand?”

Xu Shaochen smiled, casually toying with a pen in his hand, speaking in an offhanded manner.

Zhao Fei’s smile stiffened as the corner of his mouth twitched: “Thank you for your concern, Chairman Xu. It’s fine.”

Xu Shaochen glanced at the bodyguards behind Zhao Fei, who were carrying bags of gifts, before smiling and saying, “It’s enough that you’re here. Why bring gifts? Did you wrong me and come to apologize?”

Zhao Fei had the strong urge to slap Xu Shaochen to death. Who talks like this?

But he had no choice but to suppress his anger: “Chairman Xu, my arrival this time is on behalf of my father. Our Zhao family and the Deng family have a long-standing feud that we must resolve. It was unavoidable.”

“However, my father insists that out of respect for your friendship with Deng Tianwen, we had to come apologize to you. We never intended to turn against the Deng family and certainly didn’t want to upset you.”

“Rest assured, Chairman Xu. For your sake, we won’t go too far.”

After saying this, Zhao Fei signaled the bodyguards to place the gifts on the sofa before continuing:

“As for the gifts, Chairman Xu, I know you’re well-off, but these are a token of my sincerity for the ladies of your household. Please don’t refuse.”

The smile on Xu Shaochen’s face slowly faded, replaced by a dark, menacing expression, and a dangerous glint appeared in his eyes.

“You know I’m friends with Deng Tianwen, and you still dared to go after him? Are you tired of living?”

“I think you’re here not to apologize but to show off.”

Already feeling guilty, Zhao Fei went pale with fright, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. He stood frozen, unable to respond.

“I was just joking to lighten the mood. Zhao Er Shao, surely I didn’t scare you?”

The dark cloud on Xu Shaochen’s face suddenly lifted, and he smiled at Zhao Fei, his eyes glinting with mockery.

    “No, no, of course not.”

Zhao Fei breathed a sigh of relief, maintaining a smile and waving his hand, but in his heart, he cursed Xu Shaochen and his ancestors.

    Lighten the mood.

“Lighten who? Damn it! When the day comes that you die, I’ll personally bring my crew to throw a party over your grave to ‘lighten the mood.'”

“Leave the gifts and you can go.”

Xu Shaochen waved dismissively, suddenly losing interest.

He found the previous arrogant Zhao Fei more interesting. This current version of Zhao Fei didn’t even spark his desire to beat him.

“I’ll take my leave then, Chairman Xu. I still need to return to the Northwest. I hope the ladies will like the gifts.”

Zhao Fei felt immense relief. After a few polite words, he hurried out of the office with his men.

Xu Shaochen’s opinion didn’t matter anyway, as Zhao Fei was only here to make a gesture.

    “Phew—”

Outside the office, Zhao Fei let out a long sigh. Unbeknownst to him, his back was already soaked with sweat.

    Inside the office.

Xu Shaochen stood up and walked to the sofa, casually picking up one of the bags and opening it to take a look. Inside was a diamond necklace.

All the other bags contained the same type of necklace.

Altogether, these dozen necklaces were worth close to ten million. The Zhao family certainly spared no expense.

“Chairman Xu, if you’re free this afternoon, would you come with me to pick out a wedding dress?”

The secretary swayed her hips as she walked into the office, the scent of her perfume lingering in the air as she leaned next to Xu Shaochen.

Her gaze flickered over the necklaces, and though she liked them, she said nothing.

She knew they weren’t for her.

“You want me to go with you?”

    Xu Shaochen was taken aback.

The secretary blushed and coyly said, “After all, on the wedding night, I’ll be wearing it for you, so naturally, you should be the one to pick it.”

She added, “Anyway, Lin Wei is footing the bill.”

Xu Shaochen tugged at the corner of his mouth. As absurd as it sounded, he had to admit Lin Wei’s approach was somewhat effective.

At least now, whenever Lin Wei asked him for a small favor, Xu Shaochen found it hard to refuse.

Because Lin Wei was incredibly considerate—willing to go all out.

Buying a car, buying a house, covering the wedding, paying for the wedding dress, even funding the bride—these were all things Lin Wei did for Xu Shaochen’s benefit.

How could Xu Shaochen ignore someone who did all this?

There’s a saying: ‘Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.’

Besides, he was literally going to sleep with someone else’s wife, who Lin Wei was marrying in broad daylight.

He now admired Lin Wei immensely—so much so that he couldn’t imagine himself doing the same.

    “Let’s go; I’ll join you.”

Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but feel a flicker of excitement at the thought of the secretary in a wedding dress.

    ……

    Northwest.

    Outside the airport.

A row of luxury cars was parked conspicuously, drawing attention.

Zhao Chen, the eldest son of the Zhao family, wearing a sharp suit, stood by, waiting for his guest, checking his watch every now and then.

Though he couldn’t bring over the most desired VIP, Ye Shao, he had at least managed to invite Ye Shao’s younger brother.

That worked out even better, as it made the plan easier to execute.

After all, Ye Shao was far too shrewd. His younger brother was much easier to fool in comparison.

Suddenly, Zhao Chen’s eyes lit up, and a smile appeared on his face. He quickly stepped forward with his men.

His target was a rebellious-looking young man who had just exited the airport. This youth had dyed red hair and was chewing gum, exuding a defiant air.

This was none other than Ye Shao’s younger brother, Ye Shihu, the second young master of the Ye family.

“Second Young Master Ye, welcome, welcome.”

Zhao Chen extended his hand to shake, his smile equal parts enthusiastic and obsequious.

However, Ye Shihu merely glanced at him disdainfully before casually tossing his luggage at Zhao Chen. “Carry it for me. Is the hotel arranged?”

Zhao Chen’s smile faltered, his anger rising, but he suppressed it and caught the luggage, replying with a forced smile, “Rest assured, Second Young Master Ye, everything has been arranged. There’s a reception to welcome you tonight.”

“Damn it, this world is really messed up. A brat with no skills, just riding on the fact that he has a good father and brother, and I’ve become a dog, bowing and scraping.”

But as Zhao Chen silently cursed, he failed to realize that those who tried to butter him up had the exact same thoughts about him.
