Chapter Index

“Chairman Xu, what… what do you mean by this?”

Chen Ji staggered to his feet, his eyes bloodshot, glaring at Xu Shaochen.

“You want to know what I mean? Use your toes and think it over!”

Xu Shaochen looked at him coldly.

“I really don’t get what you mean. Please enlighten me, Chairman Xu.”

Chen Ji squeezed the words through his teeth, clearly challenging Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen tilted his head, then chuckled. He reached out and ruffled Chen Ji’s hair: “What, you dare talk to me like this? Did the folks in your village just get you a New Rural Cooperative Medical Insurance? Now even if you get beaten half to death and hospitalized, they’ll reimburse it.”

    “Stop messing with me!”

Chen Ji took a step back, his eyes filled with venom and rage.

“Fine, I won’t mess with you. Fighting you would lower my standards.”

Xu Shaochen smiled and clapped his hands.

His bodyguards, Long Yi and Long Er, stepped forward.

“Make him talk to me calmly in the time it takes to smoke a cigarette. Got it?”

Xu Shaochen looked at the two and said.

    “Got it.”

    Long Yi responded.

    “Hmm?”

    Xu Shaochen narrowed his eyes.

Long Yi, with a strong survival instinct, added, “Boss, half a cigarette will do.”

    “Then go ahead.”

Xu Shaochen smiled again, nodded kindly at Chen Ji, and walked toward the window to smoke.

“What… what are you going to do? I’m telling you, hitting people is against the law.”

Chen Ji stammered, forgetting one crucial thing in his panicked state.

Xu Shaochen wouldn’t kill him over such a small matter, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t beat him up.

“Hitting people is against the law, but the law doesn’t say it’s illegal to beat a dog.”

Long Yi sneered as he punched Chen Ji to the ground.

    “Ah!”

Chen Ji curled up on the floor, trembling, as punches and kicks rained down on him.

Long Yi and Long Er were holding back; otherwise, they could easily beat him to death.

“Please… please stop. I was wrong, Chairman Xu. I was really wrong. Please let me go, I’m begging you.”

In less than a minute, Chen Ji couldn’t hold on anymore, crying and crawling towards Xu Shaochen’s feet.

“See, you’re a masochist. You beg for my guidance? Know your place. Look at yourself before asking for anything—do you even deserve it?”

Xu Shaochen held a cigarette in his mouth, one foot stepping on Chen Ji as he looked down at him.

“I don’t deserve it. I don’t deserve it, Chairman Xu. Please let me go. I really won’t do it again. I’ve learned my lesson.”

Chen Ji wanted to stand his ground, but his body wouldn’t allow it.

“The only reason I agreed to see you is because of past relations. Otherwise, just for trying to poach from my company, I could make sure you never survive in Jiangzhou.”

    “Get lost!”

Xu Shaochen lifted his foot and kicked Chen Ji away, then turned to Long Yi, “Grab a mop and clean the floor. I don’t want to see any blood—it’s an eyesore.”

Chen Ji scrambled out of the office, rolling and crawling.

He had thought Xu Shaochen, being someone of status and power, would follow the rules and not do anything to him.

But he had mistakenly overlooked one thing.

That is, Xu Shaochen followed the rules only when they benefited him.

But when he didn’t feel like sticking to the rules, he’d just redefine the rules and enforce them, starting with himself.

Chen Ji didn’t understand Xu Shaochen at all, but he thought he did.

So, the New Rural Cooperative Insurance and healthcare that Chen Ji’s village recently got for him was about to come in handy. (ω)

“Long Er, get the car ready. We’re heading home.”

With that, Xu Shaochen looked at his secretary and said, “If anything comes up at the company, just give me a call. I’m leaving work early today.”

“Take care, Chairman Xu. Have a safe trip.”

The secretary obediently handed over the phone that Xu Shaochen left on the desk.

Long Er couldn’t help but sigh. Once you’re wealthy and powerful, you don’t need to change to win over a woman.

Because as your status and power rise, women will change themselves to please you.

Xu Shaochen was leaving early because he had promised to accompany Liu Ruxu and Liu Ruxue, the two sisters, for a prenatal checkup.

Their bellies had grown quite large, and Xu Shaochen didn’t trust anyone else to go with them. He needed to see it for himself to feel secure.

After all, they were carrying his children.

If anything happened, his own mother would be the first to come after him.

When he got home, the sisters were already ready, waiting for him.

With school and work back in session, even Jenny had taken the initiative to keep an eye on the game company for Xu Shaochen.

So, the only ones left in the large house were the two pregnant sisters.

These two were now the priority for protection in the household.

“I told you, you could have gone with the bodyguards. Why did you have to rush back? Haven’t you been busy lately?”

When Liu Ruxue saw Xu Shaochen enter, she couldn’t help but scold him, but her face gleamed with happiness.

Ah, women are such contradictory creatures.

“You’ve got my son or daughter in your belly. I wouldn’t feel comfortable letting anyone else go with you. Ready to go?”

Xu Shaochen walked over, touched both of their bellies, and smiled brilliantly.

The two sisters, brimming with maternal radiance, hadn’t lost any of their beauty, despite being pregnant.

Xu Shaochen took them out, got in the car, and headed to the hospital.

At the hospital, the specialist in charge of their checkups was already waiting.

In half an hour, they arrived at the hospital.

The prenatal checkup process was completed quickly.

“Mr. Xu, the baby is perfectly healthy. You can rest assured. Don’t forget the next appointment.”

The doctor respectfully said to Xu Shaochen.

“Hahaha! Hand out red envelopes! Everyone gets one!”

Hearing that, Xu Shaochen let out a sigh of relief, then had Long Yi and Long Er hand out the prepared red envelopes.

    “Thank you, Mr. Xu.”

“Thank you, Mr. Xu! Wishing you and your wife a long and happy life together.”

The entire department beamed with smiles. This was why they looked forward to seeing Xu Shaochen.

One red envelope was nearly half of their monthly salary.

Rumor had it Xu Shaochen had around ten wives.

If they could keep collecting envelopes like this, they’d be set for life.

After handing out the red envelopes, Xu Shaochen left the hospital with the two women.

“Do you want to go straight home or do some shopping?”

Once in the car, Xu Shaochen asked the two.

Liu Ruxu and Liu Ruxue exchanged a glance, then said, “Let’s do some shopping. I want to get more things for the baby.”

The two were about to become mothers, and they had already bought plenty of clothes, shoes, hats, and toys for the baby, but they still weren’t satisfied.

    Xu Shaochen…

    …wasn’t satisfied either.

Smiling, he said, “Right, right, I almost forgot. We need to get more clothes for our son.”

Long Yi and Long Er exchanged looks. The children wouldn’t be born with a silver spoon in their mouths—more like a mountain of gold.
