Chapter Index

Everyone in the living room exchanged glances.

What does it mean for the Zhao Family to send someone here? Deng Tianwen said slowly, “Bring him in.”

Soon, the bodyguard led a Zhao Family member into the living room.

    “Greetings, Mr. Deng.”

The Zhao Family member only greeted Deng Tianwen.

The others frowned, feeling slighted and quite displeased.

    “Where’s the stuff?”

    Deng Tianwen asked.

“It seems Mr. Deng knew this was coming,” the Zhao Family member said with a smile, handing over a white recorder.

Deng Tianwen toyed with the recorder, giving the Zhao Family member an amused look. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll take this to the police?”

Although he didn’t know what Zhao Chen wanted Deng Jinhong to do, it was clearly illegal.

“Our family head believes Mr. Deng is a smart man who won’t do anything pointless.”

The Zhao Family member responded calmly.

“Old dogs are truly… Well, I misspoke, old ginger is spicier. Now get lost.”

Deng Tianwen dismissed the Zhao Family member, once again expressing genuine admiration for Zhao Lianghe.

That’s right, he wouldn’t go to the police with the recorder because it would be useless.

Zhao Chen was now critically injured from the shooting. If he reported this to the police, the Zhao Family could, in turn, reasonably suggest the Deng Family was behind the attack.

Some things are just better left unexamined. Once investigated, everyone’s in trouble because no one’s record is spotless.

That’s why the Zhao Family felt comfortable handing him the recorder without worry.

“Tianwen, what does all this mean?”

After the Zhao Family left, everyone frowned and looked at Deng Tianwen.

“What does it mean? You should ask Deng Jinhong.”

Deng Tianwen looked at Deng Jinhong with a half-smile.

This scumbag, when he needed someone, he’d call him “Brother Jin Hong” all the time.

But when things went south, it was just “Deng Jinhong.”

Everyone turned to Deng Jinhong, feeling more and more confused by the situation.

Deng Jinhong’s expression turned a bit unnatural. “Me? How would I know?”

Although he wasn’t sure what was on the recorder, seeing Deng Tianwen’s expression gave him a bad feeling.

“If you don’t know, and no one else does, let’s just play it and find out.”

As Deng Tianwen spoke, he clapped his hands. Several bodyguards came inside and sealed the doors.

“Tianwen, what do you think you’re doing?”

Everyone was startled, as the scene looked very menacing.

“Oh, everyone relax. This is just to prevent certain people from overreacting after hearing the recording.”

Deng Tianwen spoke in a calm tone while starting to play the recorder.

The entire conversation between Deng Jinhong and Zhao Chen in the tearoom played from the recorder.

Whoosh! Everyone was immensely shocked, staring incredulously at Deng Jinhong.

“Deng Jinhong! How could you do something like this? You’ve let down your parents, and you’ve disgraced the family name!”

An old uncle with a fiery temper slammed the table and glared at Deng Jinhong with rage.

Deng Jinhong retreated several steps in fright but still forced himself to remain calm, stammering, “This… this was all to stall Zhao Chen and buy the hitman more time. You… you have to believe me!”

    “Nonsense!”

Deng Tianwen roared, “Deng Jinhong, are you waiting for me to die to shed your tears? Do you still think you’re a hero to the Deng Family?”

He then raised the recorder. “Uncles, from the beginning, the incident with Zhao Chen wasn’t a setup. It was a coincidence!”

“After Deng Jinhong stormed out of the meeting, I was afraid he might do something rash, so I secretly sent bodyguards to follow him. But I never expected them to witness him meeting Zhao Chen in the tearoom!”

“Later on, I took advantage of this opportunity and had the bodyguards go back and ambush Zhao Chen!”

Deng Jinhong went pale and became frantic. He blurted out uncontrollably, “Uncles, don’t believe Deng Tianwen’s lies! He’s always despised me and wants to get rid of me!”

“Deng Tianwen, you’ve really gone to great lengths to frame me! You’re the one who told me to set a trap to lure out Zhao Chen for assassination.”

“But now that we’ve succeeded, you’re eliminating me like some tool you no longer need. You really are vicious and heartless!”

Despite his panic, Deng Jinhong still had some cleverness left. He maintained a clear train of thought and managed to mount a counterattack.

Not only did he try to prove his innocence, he also turned the accusation back on Deng Tianwen.

The others exchanged suspicious looks between Deng Tianwen and Deng Jinhong, as both sides seemed plausible from their words.

Deng Tianwen sneered, “Is that so? Search him!”

With his order, Deng Jinhong was immediately pinned to the ground by two bodyguards.

“What are you doing? Let go of me! Uncles, you have to stand up for me! If he can treat me like this today, he can treat you the same tomorrow!”

“Deng Tianwen has lost his mind in his efforts to get rid of me!”

Deng Jinhong realized what Deng Tianwen was searching for and struggled desperately, his face turning ashen.

“Tianwen, what are you doing? Things aren’t clear yet, and you’re attacking your own brother. Isn’t this a bit inappropriate?”

A middle-aged man, swayed by Deng Jinhong’s appeal, stepped forward to reprimand Deng Tianwen.

He himself had embezzled plenty of the family’s money and feared he might meet the same fate as Deng Jinhong.

After all, Deng Tianwen’s ruthless methods in eliminating dissent within the family sent chills down people’s spines.

Deng Tianwen cast a cold glance at him. “I called you here to watch the show, not to teach me how to do my job. Shut your mouth.”

    “You…”

The middle-aged man turned purple with anger, his face alternating between pale and flushed, but in the end, he could only huff and return to his seat in silence.

This showed just how indisputable Deng Tianwen’s authority in the family was.

    “Boss, we found it.”

A bodyguard pulled out a bottle from Deng Jinhong’s clothes and handed it to Deng Tianwen.

“Deng Jinhong, this is the poison Zhao Chen gave you to kill me, isn’t it? Do you have anything else to say now?”

Deng Tianwen coldly looked at Deng Jinhong.

The others also glared at Deng Jinhong, as betrayal of this kind would never be accepted.

“This… this is medicine for my headaches.”

Deng Jinhong thought he might still be able to wriggle out of this.

“Is that so? Feed Young Master Jin Hong the medicine.”

Deng Tianwen sneered and tossed the bottle to a bodyguard.

The bodyguard opened the bottle and approached Deng Jinhong, while another forced his mouth open.

    “No! Please, don’t!”

Deng Jinhong’s eyes filled with terror, and he broke into a cold sweat, struggling on the ground.

But it was all in vain. In the end, the bodyguard forced the entire bottle of poisonous powder down his throat.

After convulsing a few times, Deng Jinhong died on the spot.
