Chapter Index

    Morning.

“What’s on the schedule for today?”

    Xu Shaochen asked the secretary.

Last night, his argument with Jenny ended in a round of applause. In the end, he had the upper hand.

It must be said, the combat power of Western girls is no joke.

The secretary took out her little notebook, something she regarded as her lifeline.

“Oh~ There’s an interview with the provincial station in the morning. In the afternoon, you’ll lead meetings for Chenyu and Tianyu. In the evening, you have a dinner appointment with some city officials.”

The secretary recited Xu Shaochen’s entire schedule for the day.

His schedule was filled to the brim without a moment of free time.

Xu Shaochen frowned: “Call the provincial station and move the interview to the morning. Have them send someone over now.”

If it weren’t for the fact that the provincial station director and Mei Liangying happened to be distant relatives, Xu Shaochen wouldn’t have agreed to this interview at all.

To him, it was a complete waste of time.

After all, there were plenty of magazines and TV stations lining up to interview him. The provincial station wasn’t particularly high-ranking.

The fact that he even agreed to this interview was already a huge favor to the Canglan Province TV station.

    “Understood, Chairman Xu.”

The secretary took out her phone and dialed the provincial station’s contact.

After a moment, she hung up and said to Xu Shaochen: “They’re sending a reporter over right now.”

“Once they arrive, just bring them directly to my office.”

Xu Shaochen left that instruction and started dealing with the day’s pile of documents.

With three companies, Tianyu, Chenyu, and the Lotus Charity, all under his name, there were always a mountain of files for him to review and approve.

To put it bluntly, he was busier than a dog, yet dogs probably had a more comfortable life.

The secretary brewed a cup of tea for Xu Shaochen and then left the office.

About half an hour later, the secretary knocked on the door and entered with a man and a woman.

The woman carried a microphone, and the man was holding a camera, clearly staff from the provincial station.

“Chairman Xu, this is Reporter Zhou from the provincial station.”

The secretary introduced the woman with the microphone, completely ignoring the man.

“Hello, Mr. Xu. We’re honored that you agreed to an interview with our provincial TV station. We appreciate your patience and hope for your understanding.”

Reporter Zhou spoke up quickly, her face nearly glowing with a smile, lowering her posture as much as possible.

After all, it wasn’t easy for their station to secure such an opportunity.

It was common knowledge that Xu Shaochen disliked interviews.

Before arriving, the station chief had given strict orders: if she couldn’t capitalize on this opportunity, even as the station’s star reporter, she’d be fired.

    “Hm, let’s get started.”

Xu Shaochen nodded and put his documents aside.

He lifted his head and gave the reporter a quick glance. She was quite pretty, which made sense—otherwise, she couldn’t have become the station’s top reporter.

Reporter Zhou was initially stunned. It took a moment before she responded: “Mr. Xu, shouldn’t we review the questions first?”

It was customary before interviewing prominent figures to present them with a list of questions. They would decide which could be asked and which couldn’t.

“No need. Just ask. If it’s a fit, I’ll answer. If not, I won’t.”

    Xu Shaochen shook his head.

“Alright, Mr. Xu, then let’s officially begin.”

Reporter Zhou gestured to the cameraman, signaling him to start rolling.

Xu Shaochen moved to the sofa, and Reporter Zhou sat beside him. The interview formally began.

“Mr. Xu, according to data gathered by netizens, the funds dedicated to charity by the Lotus Charity have already reached billions. As I understand, the Xu Corporation’s charity foundation is also heavily involved in philanthropy. Why did you still choose to establish Lotus Charity?”

Reporter Zhou asked the first question.

Xu Shaochen replied in a calm tone: “The company is the company, and I am I. It’s important to separate the two. The Xu Corporation’s charity foundation is a corporate initiative. The Lotus Charity is a personal expression of my intent. The two shouldn’t be lumped together.”

    “Understood. Then, Mr. Xu…”

Reporter Zhou proceeded to ask several more questions, covering topics such as the company, Xu Shaochen’s personal interests, and the economy. Xu Shaochen answered each one.

As the interview neared its end, Reporter Zhou posed the final question: “Mr. Xu, what are your thoughts on the highly controversial injectable nutrient liquid (Genetic Serum)?”

Reporter Zhou was understandably nervous. After all, this topic was quite sensitive. But interviewing someone as influential as Xu Shaochen without at least one explosive question would make the interview a failure.

Most people would dodge or give ambiguous answers to this question, but not Xu Shaochen, as this was his own creation.

“In my opinion, injectable nutrient liquid—though I personally prefer to call it the Genetic Serum—is identical to what we see in the movies.”

For the first time in public, Xu Shaochen introduced the term ‘Genetic Serum’, and continued: “It’s undoubtedly a sign of progress in this era—proof of how science is advancing. The researchers and investors behind it should all be recognized for their contributions.”

    Praising himself, not bad, huh?

“But there’s been significant controversy. Mr. Xu, did you happen to see last night’s news about a strengthened individual robbing an armored truck?”

Seeing that Xu Shaochen directly addressed the issue, Reporter Zhou’s eyes lit up, and she eagerly pressed further.

Xu Shaochen smiled: “In my view, it’s perfectly normal. Every great leap in history comes with growing pains. It’s inevitable. Only strengthened individuals can defeat strengthened individuals. By that same principle, strengthened criminals should naturally be hunted down by strengthened law enforcement.”

“So, Mr. Xu, are you suggesting… full-scale adoption?” Reporter Zhou probed cautiously.

Xu Shaochen smiled and shrugged: “Why not? Some people have already become strengthened, while others remain ordinary. That’s unfair for the latter.”

“The world will never be entirely fair, but I believe it should be relatively fair.”

Although Reporter Zhou wanted to pursue this line of questioning further, she knew when to stop. Pushing any more would render the interview unfit for broadcast.

After all, the government was currently strictly controlling the Genetic Serum.

“Alright, thank you very much, Mr. Xu, for your insightful answers. That concludes today’s interview. Once again, we truly appreciate your cooperation.”

After the camera was turned off, Reporter Zhou stood up to thank Xu Shaochen.

“I have other matters to attend to, so I won’t keep you. Feel free to see yourselves out.”

Xu Shaochen glanced at his watch, then addressed them.

“Mr. Xu, we’ll be taking our leave then.”

Reporter Zhou left, brimming with excitement and anticipation, with the cameraman in tow.

She knew that once this interview aired, the station’s ratings would skyrocket.
