Chapter Index

    Northwest.

After Xu Shaochen brought in a large amount of funds.

The Deng Family revitalized and many construction projects resumed at a visible pace.

Ye Shilong’s father being the top official in the Northwest was true, and his influence there was strong.

But since the Deng Family provided the money and fulfilled their contracts, the government had no reason to nitpick.

In simple terms, Ye Shilong could only operate within the confines of legal and reasonable limits.

If he dared to overstep even a little, Xu Shaochen would seize the opportunity and drive the Ye Family out of the Northwest for good.

Ye Shilong understood this well, which is why his main advantage was lost the moment Xu Shaochen arrived.

In a head-to-head business confrontation, he wouldn’t gain an inch.

Thus, he had no choice but to take an unconventional path.

More precisely, it was the Zhao Family that would take that path. He, on the other hand, would stay behind the scenes, not interfering openly, and distancing himself from any illegal activities.

If things went wrong, it would all fall on the Zhao Family’s shoulders.

    Zhao Family.

Ye Shilong sat at the head of the table, his phone in hand, while a teacup steamed in front of him.

Zhao Lianghe sat on the left, Zhao Fei and Zhao Chen sat on the right.

All three of them had their eyes fixed on Ye Shilong.

“Young Master Ye, what should we do now? With Xu Shaochen’s funds, the Deng Family has already started several projects. Perhaps, could you try to influence the government…”

Zhao Lianghe seemed quite anxious. Seeing the Deng Family revived once again had made him uneasy.

Before he could finish his sentence, Ye Shilong shot him a cold glance: “Do you think the government is mine? The Deng Family filed all the necessary paperwork and are following their contracts. What reason do I have to cause them trouble?”

After speaking, he frowned, raising his voice slightly: “Chairman Zhao, you’re losing your composure. When a person isn’t calm, they’re prone to making mistakes.”

Zhao Lianghe felt embarrassed, pursed his lips, and said: “Yes, Young Master Ye, you’re right. I… I’ve been too impatient.”

Realizing his earlier words were problematic, Zhao Lianghe felt even more ashamed.

Ye Shilong withdrew his gaze and leisurely said: “If you can’t target them officially, why not try making it so they can’t carry on with their projects?”

“At the moment, your Zhao Family holds the advantage. You can’t even handle a small task like this?”

Zhao Chen cautiously asked: “Young Master Ye, how far can we go?”

“As long as no one dies, I’ll cover for you,” Ye Shilong responded nonchalantly.

Zhao Chen straightened up and replied: “Rest assured, Young Master Ye. I know what to do.”

Seeing Zhao Chen and Ye Shilong talking, and feeling like he was invisible, Zhao Fei grew irritated: “Brother, let me handle this.”

“This…” Zhao Chen hesitated and looked at Zhao Lianghe. To be honest, he didn’t trust Zhao Fei’s abilities.

Zhao Fei, noticing this, grew even angrier. His tone grew sharper: “Brother, it’s just making some trouble, right? You think I can’t even handle that?”

“Let him try,” Zhao Lianghe cut in before Zhao Chen could say what he was about to.

He knew his younger son, ever since his hands became permanently disabled, had grown incredibly sensitive and prone to extreme behavior.

If they didn’t let him handle this task, who knows what drastic things he might do in retaliation.

“You don’t need to worry about the Deng Family’s other projects, just focus on the few government-backed projects. If they can’t start on time, that’s a breach of contract. I’ll have someone hold them accountable.”

As Ye Shilong spoke, he picked up his teacup, took a sip, and then set it down. He stood up and adjusted his jacket, preparing to leave.

Zhao Lianghe and his two sons quickly stood to see him off.

“Rest assured, Young Master Ye. We won’t disappoint you.”

    Zhao Lianghe promised.

Ye Shilong smiled slightly, shook his head, and said: “No, it’s not about disappointing me. It’s that you can’t afford to fail.”

With that, Ye Shilong strode out of the room.

“Xiaofei, I suggest you start with the Deng Family’s suppliers. If the materials are delayed, the Deng Family won’t be able to start work. Also…”

As soon as Ye Shilong left, Zhao Chen began to advise Zhao Fei. He still didn’t feel at ease.

“I know, no need for you to tell me!”

Zhao Fei impatiently interrupted, then turned and walked straight out of the living room.

“Dad, look at him. Do you really think he can handle this?”

Zhao Chen’s tone was tinged with frustration. He was trying to teach Zhao Fei how things were done, but not only did he refuse to listen, he even gave him attitude.

Zhao Lianghe sighed helplessly: “Forget it, don’t concern yourself with him. If he can’t handle it, then you can step in later.”

Even the most capable men found it difficult to treat all their children equally.

    ………………

In the private estate arranged by the Deng Family.

Xu Shaochen and Deng Tianwen sat across from each other.

Liu Jun stood beside them, serving tea.

“Keep a close watch on those projects. The Zhao Family will definitely target them. If the construction faces setbacks, Ye Shilong can use his family’s influence to ‘legally and rightfully’ come after the Deng Family.”

Xu Shaochen warned Deng Tianwen. Whatever Ye Shilong could think of, Xu Shaochen had already anticipated.

“I’ve already sent Deng Family bodyguards to monitor the construction sites around the clock, just in case the Zhao Family tries anything.”

    Deng Tianwen replied.

Xu Shaochen nodded: “How soon will the materials arrive?”

“Soon. I made a call before coming here. Two days at most,” Deng Tianwen answered.

    “Ring, ring, ring…”

Xu Shaochen was just about to speak when his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen. It was an unfamiliar number from the Great Wilderness Province.

    “Hello.”

“Is this Xu Shaochen? This is Huo Shen.”

A deep voice echoed from the phone.

Xu Shaochen recalled who this was and asked: “What do you need?”

“You killed my people on my turf. Isn’t that a little over the line?”

    Huo Shen’s tone was grim.

Xu Shaochen chuckled: “Mr. Huo, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t even know who you are, so how could I have possibly done anything like that? Anything else? If not, I’ll hang up.”

He certainly wouldn’t admit to anything over the phone. Who knew if that slimy man was recording the call?

“Hmph.” Huo Shen was indeed recording. When Xu Shaochen didn’t fall into the trap, he snorted coldly: “Your two bodyguards are currently rotting in prison. If you don’t give me an explanation, I’ll make sure they never leave there alive.”

“Mr. Huo, I’ll say it again. I have no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t know why my bodyguards went to the Great Wilderness Province or why they’re in prison, but if they broke the law, I absolutely support the law’s strict enforcement.”

“However, if someone is playing dirty tricks and framing my bodyguards, then they better be prepared to face the consequences.”

Xu Shaochen calmly finished his sentence and immediately hung up the phone.
