Chapter Index

“Young Master Zhao, thank you for honoring us with your presence tonight. I toast to you.”

Deng Tianwen raised his wine glass and smiled at Zhao Chen.

    “You’re too kind.”

Zhao Chen smiled back, raised his wine glass slightly, and drank it all in one gulp.

“I have something I’d like to discuss with Young Master Zhao. Would you mind stepping upstairs to a private room?”

    Deng Tianwen asked.

Zhao Chen wasn’t afraid at all. If he didn’t go, others might think he was scared of Deng Tianwen. He said immediately, “Lead the way.”

    “After you, Master Zhao.”

Deng Tianwen led Zhao Chen into the elevator, secretly giving Zhao Fei a subtle ‘OK’ signal.

Zhao Fei smiled and said to his female companion, “Go keep Mrs. Deng company.”

Naturally, ‘Mrs. Deng’ here referred to Hou Xiaoyan.

Although the woman didn’t fully understand Zhao Fei’s intentions, she obediently went to find Hou Xiaoyan.

Zhao Fei approached Yuxiu. “Sister-in-law, I’m going to greet Xu Shaochen. Why don’t you go find a place to sit for a bit?”

He was using a retreat to advance. He knew that his sister-in-law would surely insist on going with him.

If he genuinely wanted to go greet Xu Shaochen alone, he wouldn’t have told Yuxiu.

“No need. I’ll go with you. I’d like to meet Young Master Xu as well.”

Yuxiu shook her head and said.

“But… would big bro have any objections? Sister-in-law, you know him. He’s never been fond of me.”

Zhao Fei purposely wore a troubled expression on his face.

Yuxiu chuckled lightly and said, “Don’t worry, your brother’s not that petty. He wouldn’t mind me talking to another man.”

She paused, then continued in a soft tone, “Fei, your brother’s your flesh and blood. How could he not like you? Sometimes he just has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Don’t hold it against him.”

Because Zhao Fei had always harbored feelings for his sister-in-law, he treated her with respect and kindness. As a result, Yuxiu had a good impression of him.

She didn’t want to see the younger brother, who had always respected her, fall out with her husband.

    “I’ll listen to you, sister-in-law. Let’s go.”

Zhao Fei smiled and nodded, though his heart was cold.

Sharp tongue but soft heart? I think he’s got a soft tongue but a sharp heart. All talk on the outside, but different inside.

Zhao Fei had already seen through his elder brother. He was a hypocritical man.

Although Zhao Fei wasn’t a saint either, that didn’t stop him from looking down on his brother, Zhao Chen.

Zhao Fei led Yuxiu toward Xu Shaochen.

“Mr. Xu, I’d like to offer you a toast.”

Zhao Fei said to Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen nodded, then glanced at the woman beside Zhao Fei. “And who might this be?”

As soon as he saw Yuxiu, he immediately lost interest in the two women he had planned to hit on tonight.

After all, compared to the dazzling beauty before him, those two were far inferior.

So this is what love really is—adaptability.

“Mr. Xu, pleased to meet you. My name is Yuxiu. I’m Zhao Chen’s wife.”

Yuxiu smiled sweetly and extended her delicate hand toward Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen shook her hand briefly, noting how smooth and soft it felt, then let go.

“Miss Yu is very beautiful. Zhao Chen is indeed lucky.”

Xu Shaochen said, raising his glass to Yuxiu and downing it in one go. His unspoken message was: ‘What a waste, all the good stuff’s been taken by pigs.’

“Mr. Xu, you flatter me. I’ll toast you this time.”

Yuxiu gracefully raised her wine glass and drank it all as well.

“Sister-in-law, you and Mr. Xu chat for now. I’ll go bring you another glass.”

Zhao Fei, seeing the situation, smiled and said to Yuxiu.

Yuxiu nodded and handed her glass to Zhao Fei, “Thank you, Fei.”

“Sister-in-law, what are you thanking me for? No need to be so polite.”

Zhao Fei feigned displeasure, then took Yuxiu’s glass and walked away to get another drink.

When no one was looking, he dropped a pill into the wine glass. The pill dissolved instantly.

Initially, he had only planned to introduce them, figuring Xu Shaochen could handle the rest.

But after considering it further, he decided to go all the way and help Xu Shaochen out like a good wingman.

Zhao Fei let out a cold laugh, then put on a bright smile and returned with the glass, handing it to Yuxiu.

Yuxiu was chatting happily with Xu Shaochen, her face brimming with smiles. Xu Shaochen, the scoundrel, certainly knew how to charm women.

Why is it that, despite being so much of a player, scoundrels always seem to attract a never-ending stream of girlfriends?

Because scoundrels often know exactly what women like, what they want to hear, and what they need.

    It’s all just a game.

“Mr. Xu, why don’t we sit over there and chat? My feet are getting tired.”

Yuxiu took the glass Zhao Fei handed over and took a sip, then pointed toward a sofa in the corner and invited Xu Shaochen.

She had her own agenda, wanting to persuade Xu Shaochen to stop aiding the Deng Family.

    “Sounds perfect.”

A beauty’s invitation was something Xu Shaochen naturally wouldn’t refuse. He followed Yuxiu toward the sofa.

Zhao Fei tactfully chose to leave, no longer interfering but giving Xu Shaochen a meaningful glance.

Xu Shaochen didn’t understand, feeling a little confused.

“Damn, that guy actually dares to hit on Young Master Zhao’s wife, he’s asking for it.”

“Exactly, who the hell is that guy anyway? Have you seen him before?”

“Never seen him. Damn it, let’s go teach him a lesson. Zhao will definitely reward us.”

Several young men, watching Xu Shaochen and Yuxiu chatting on the sofa in the corner, started cursing under their breaths.

After a brief discussion, they swaggered over.

They were Zhao Chen’s lackeys. Seeing someone hitting on their boss’s wife, of course they weren’t going to sit by and do nothing.

    “Kid, get lost now.”

The three of them walked up to Xu Shaochen, haughtily shouting at him.

    “Gentlemen, you must be mistaken.”

Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow and looked at the three.

“Sister-in-law, is this guy bothering you? We’ll help you take care of him.”

One of them looked at Yuxiu and asked.

Yuxiu was taken aback. It took her a moment to process what was happening.

“I don’t care who you are, but I’ll give you three seconds to disappear from my sight. Otherwise, I’ll make you regret it.”

Xu Shaochen was deeply annoyed by their interruption.

“You’re all talk for your age. I’d like to see how exactly you’ll make us regret it!”

All three were enraged by his words and wanted to teach him a lesson.

    “It’s a misunderstanding…”

Yuxiu finally snapped out of it and quickly tried to mediate.

After all, she was trying to convince Xu Shaochen to stop supporting the Deng Family. These three were only making matters worse.

The commotion quickly drew the attention of others in the hall.

Most of them didn’t know Xu Shaochen and were just enjoying the spectacle.

But a few who did recognize Xu Shaochen’s face lit up, sensing an opportunity.
