Chapter Index

In fact, Xu Shaochen didn’t like Zhao Fei at all.

Could a person who would drug his own sister-in-law be anything good? Even though Xu Shaochen gained an advantage, that didn’t stop him from despising Zhao Fei.

But who could deny this guy was still useful?

By getting Zhao Chen’s account book, they could force him to give up his power and get lost. Otherwise, he’d spend the rest of his life in prison.

If it weren’t absolutely necessary, Xu Shaochen wouldn’t give away the account book, because too many people were involved.

What’s more, once the account book was handed over, its power as leverage would be gone.

It’s like a bomb. The moment it’s most threatening is when it’s in your hand, right before you throw it.

In the blink of an eye, two days passed.

Over the last two days, Xu Shaochen mostly spent his time calling out Yuxiu to deepen their relationship.

But today, there was no such opportunity.

Today was the day the Deng Family’s construction projects and Government contract would kick off.

Today, there’s a show to watch.

In construction, steel is undoubtedly the most important material. Without it, you can’t build a single high-rise.

Xu Shaochen and Deng Tianwen waited at the site for someone to arrive.

“Why isn’t the Zhao Family here yet? Could it be they’re not planning to come?”

Deng Tianwen was restless. If he missed such a golden chance to show off, he felt like he wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.

Xu Shaochen smiled indifferently: “Relax, they’ll definitely come. After all, they want to show off too.”

    “Vroom, vroom, vroom…”

As soon as he finished speaking, accompanied by the roar of engines, three Mercedes-Benz cars pulled up.

“Speak of the devil, and he appears.”

Deng Tianwen recognized the license plate—it was Zhao Family’s cars.

Soon enough, Zhao Chen and Zhao Fei arrived with a group of bodyguards.

“Deng Shao, are you waiting for Pan Quan’s company to deliver the steel? Don’t bother. Pan Quan has breached the contract. As for the penalty fee, our Zhao Family has covered that for him.”

Before Zhao Chen even got close, he shouted gleefully from afar, his face full of schadenfreude.

“What did you just say?! How could that be possible?!”

Deng Tianwen stood there as if struck by lightning, stunned and unable to believe what he heard. He stared incredulously at Zhao Chen.

Xu Shaochen’s face also turned dark. He said nothing, but his eyes grew cold.

Zhao Fei was dumbfounded by the sight. Damn, these two are real actors! Is their acting that good already? If I hadn’t given them the heads up myself, even I would’ve been fooled by this scene.

“Don’t believe me? If you don’t, feel free to make a call and check for yourself. You’ll know whether I’m lying or not. Deng Tianwen, you’re still too green to challenge me.”

Seeing their shocked expressions, Zhao Chen was filled with joy. He almost burst out laughing, feeling as though all the frustration he’d been bottling up had finally vanished.

“Zhao Chen, do you really think I’d believe you just because of a few words? Pan Quan would never do something like this!”

Deng Tianwen gritted his teeth and dialed Pan Quan’s number with trembling hands: “Chairman Pan, Zhao Chen says…”

“Everything Young Master Zhao says is true, Deng Shao. Don’t blame me for being heartless, but I had no choice. Between you and the Zhao Family, I believe the Zhao Family is stronger. I’ve got another meeting, so I’ll have to keep it short. Maybe we can work together again someday.”

Before Pan Quan finished speaking, he swiftly hung up.

    “Beep… beep… beep…”

Listening to the busy signal from the phone, Deng Tianwen stood there like a fool, speechless for a long while.

“Deng Shao, you see? I’m not one to lie. I truly didn’t want to laugh, but I just can’t help it. Hahaha…”

Looking at Deng Tianwen’s dumbfounded expression, Zhao Chen couldn’t contain his excitement and burst into laughter.

    “You… you’re shameless!”

Deng Tianwen’s eyes were bloodshot, and he clenched his teeth in fury.

“Yes, I’m shameless, Deng Shao. You’re just too naïve. This is nothing but survival of the fittest.”

“By the way, I heard your contract’s construction starts today. How will you begin without steel? Wouldn’t that put you in breach of contract? Oh dear, what will you do if the Government holds you accountable?”

The angrier Deng Tianwen got, the happier Zhao Chen felt. He kept talking, trying to provoke him further.

“That’s my problem! Zhao Chen, I hope you can keep laughing like this forever!”

Deng Tianwen said coldly, but in Zhao Chen’s eyes, it was just the words of a sore loser.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be laughing for the rest of my life. By the way, if you beg me on your knees, I might just ask Pan Quan to send over the steel for you.”

Zhao Chen said with a sinister smile. It had been a while since he’d felt this good—this moment was his best day in a year.

It was like drinking an ice-cold soda on a scorching summer day. Pure refreshment.

    “Vroom vroom vroom…”

Just then, the rumble of engines sounded again, and a few large trucks rolled in, kicking up dust.

In an instant, everyone’s eyes turned toward the trucks.

Looking at the trucks fully loaded with steel, Zhao Chen was completely dumbfounded. His mind went blank, and he stared in shock.

    “This… this can’t be real!”

Seeing the steel, Zhao Chen’s expression mirrored what Deng Tianwen’s had been earlier—full of disbelief.

“Zhao Chen, how was my earlier performance? Setting aside everything else, wasn’t my angry glare and my desperate yet defiant tone spot on? Honestly, winning an Oscar would be a breeze for me.”

“By the way, your dad’s seen my excellent acting before. If you’re interested, you can ask him about it, haha…”

Wearing a mischievous expression, Deng Tianwen approached Zhao Chen and laughed heartily after speaking.

“Impossible! Where did you get the steel? How could you have been prepared ahead of time?!”

Zhao Chen gritted his teeth, his face alternating between green and white as his fists tightened, veins bulging.

    “This is called being prepared.”

Deng Tianwen said with a smile. Of course, there was no way he’d sell out Zhao Fei.

“Bro, what do we do now?”

Zhao Fei turned to Zhao Chen, frowning on the surface, but internally full of glee.

“We’re leaving! Deng Tianwen, I hope your luck stays this good forever.”

Zhao Chen practically hissed through his teeth as he turned to leave.

“Wait a minute, Young Master Zhao. Since you’re already here, why don’t you stay and enjoy the show?”

As Deng Tianwen finished speaking, he clapped his hands: “Come on, let’s get the drums going! Let’s thank Young Master Zhao for coming to our Deng Family’s groundbreaking ceremony.”

    “Boom boom boom…”

“Today is such a good day, everything goes my way…”

A troupe with drums emerged, playing lively music, dancing, and singing in celebration.

    “You… you… you’re bullying me… cough—”

Zhao Chen couldn’t hold it in anymore. After repeating ‘you’ three times, he felt a sharp pain in his throat and spat out a mouthful of blood.
